Part 37: Obong-Ni Ridge: Turn 12

Obong-Ni Ridge: Turn 12

The infantry reinforcements keep trudging along. They may even get to fire a shot in the next few turns, who knows?

The Pershings are a bit stuck though. I'm trying to think of a time and place to deploy them where they will be useful without being particularly vulnerable. I'm thinking of waiting for the smoke to clear so they can attack the middle force head on (outflanking may take too long, especially if you finish reading this post).

Another artillery strike is called in; hopefully this one will leave a large impression on their force.

At the beginning of the enemy turn, the unthinkable happens. After several turns of near misses and friendly fire landing upon the North Korean infantry, every single artillery unit they have unleashes an accurate volley straight at Obong-Ni Ridge. This means that multiple 122mm and 76mm field gun shells, supported by 82mm and 120mm mortar rounds all managed to hit the same target that's only about a tenth of a square kilometer. I have a very, very bad feeling about this.

This allows infantry to enter the fray as American soldiers get loosened from their positions. The enemies are swiftly cut down by defensive fire, but that doesn't make the situation any better.

To end on a positive note, we have another pair of M26 Pershings now.

So yeah, victory still isn't impossible at this point, but our main force is in a lot of trouble. There are still about 13 turns left in the match, but it will be decided in the next 3.

Because of the sudden enemy breakthrough, I am forced to declare that this LP is in a state of CODE AQUAMARINE. I need ideas immediately, up to and including playing as the North Koreans for two or three turns in order to make extremely terrible decisions*.

*I actually did start a match as the North Koreans just to see what type of units they have. They have about 15 artillery units which is about a quarter of their total force. The singleplayer missions are lopsided in general, but this one is particularly uneven.
