Part 100: Okabe Rintarou reaffirms his resolve to change the future

Is she dead now...?

"Mayuri..."

This...

This ending is just too much...

Inside...

Talking on her phone, Kiryuu Moeka. This woman again...

This woman seemingly timed the car's appearance. She ran over Mayuri...

"...Okabe Rintarou, secured. Contact the police. Shiina Mayuri is dead."

"Why... did you kill her... why..."

"Because you ran away."

"Dammit, goddammit!"

Mustering my strength, I ram into Moeka's waist. I push her down.

Mixing into the onlookers, I see the men who had chased me. I need to run away until I arrive at the lab.

The pain in my legs spreads through my entire body like an electric shock. My bones are likely broken... but I still run away.

I need to get to the lab and time leap once more, or I can't save Mayuri...

Moeka stands up while holding the back of her head, but Mayuri doesn't even twitch.

God. Fucking. Damn it. I feel a strong sense of regret for leaving Mayuri in the middle of the street like that, but I can't stop here.

I'm going back. Back to the lab...!

Surprisingly, Moeka's comrades didn't chase me. Nobody's at the lab. Only the lights are on.

Relieved that Kurisu and Daru haven't returned, I head straight to the development room.

My entire body hurts - especially my right side and my left leg. My painful shivers and cold sweat won't stop. If I'm not careful, I might faint.

My vision blurs, My consciousness is dim. My left arm won't move properly. It's lost sensation. Still, I launch the X68000 and input the settings.

I keep breathing hard. I hear my own breathing like a beast.

I couldn't protect her. On the contrary, I left her in front of the station, surrounded by many people.

I'm sorry.
I'm sorry, Mayuri...

Stifling my sobbing, I frantically type with my wavering hands. A police siren echoes in the distance. Moeka shouldn't be able to move for a while. She ran over Mayuri in front of that many witnesses. It wouldn't be strange if she got arrested.

But the problem is her comrades.

Why didn't they chase me? It should be easy to secure someone on the verge of death like me.

Anyway, I need to hurry. They'll kill me at this rate...

Timer set to #4. I put on the headgear. I don't care that I got it bloody.

What if the time leap fails?
What if my memory data corrupts?
What if that corruption lodges itself into my mind for hours back?
I might no longer be myself.
Should I use the Time Leap Machine Again?

I squeeze out a whisper to nobody in particular.

"...Mayuri died, you know?"

I need to change this awful future. If it's to save Mayuri, then I'll overcome this fear of corrupting my own memory. If it'll save Mayuri, I'll overcome any obstacles in time.

I will absolutely save Mayuri.
Because I can.
Because I'm in front of a device that makes it possible.
What am I hesitating for...?!
