Part 24: Chapter 7-2

Over to the Office. Before we head upstairs, we’ll be needing this fire extinguisher. I’m sure Vickie won’t look conspicuous carrying that around in her coat.

Up we go…

Upstairs, Vickie automatically gets to messing with one of the computers. Claire walks in.

“Claire. What are you doing here?”

“Claire, what’s your level of clearance?”

“Oh, I found them, I just can’t access them. It’s level four clearance only. Oh, I’d love to read them.”

“Actually, I might have one, yes, but I won’t go into the details just yet. I’ve been taught to never give any details before you have all the facts.”

And yet no one ever taught you not to smash an entire crime scene by walking on rickity stairs.

“You did at Quantico. Remember?”

“Anyways, I really need to get my hands on those files.”

“Uh oh. You never call me Victoria unless it’s serious.”

“Because I feel responsible for Stephanie’s death.”

“When I chased our murderer on the rooftop I had a chance to take him out and I didn’t.”

“I’m sorry, but that sounded like a male impotence speech.”

“I froze…sort of…I was hanging over the ledge.”

“Thanks for the tip. Oh! And we never had this conversation.”

“Of course I will…thanks for being you.”

Claire strolls off. Now we need to get into Browning’s office. The keys to that are over on this janitor’s cart.

…but apparently he’s guarding them, or something. Can’t we just ask him for the keys?

“Hey, do you think I could borrow those keys?”

Yeah, what are we, cops? The janitor calls the shots here!

Our distraction is over at the coffee machine in the hallway. First we’ll grab a napkin…

…lay it on the drain…

…and turn on the machine. This spills coffee everywhere and makes a mess on the floor. Now we return to the janitor.

“I’m sorry, but I made a terrible mess at the coffee machine.”

You said it, my friend.

The janitor stomps off, leaving us free to raid his cart.

On it are Browning’s office keys.

And a screwdriver too. Why not?

Now we can get into Browning’s office. First we’ll check out his desk.

We needed his computer for access purposes, so…

Yeah, that would be too easy, wouldn’t it?

Abandoning that idea for now, on the right side of the office is a safe.

Which is fingerprint locked.

But prints are fairly easy to come by, as we’re in a goddamn police station. Back to the desk and yoink Todd’s coffee mug.

And over to the fingerprint kit again. Unscrew the powder, use the brush on the powder, use the brush on the mug.

Rotate the mug until you see some prints.

Rip off one of the print sheets, use it on the mug.

Back in the office, use that on the safe. Voila.

Inside are keys we’ll need for the elevator.

Before we go, one more thing we’ll need over here.

A taser! I finally feel like a real cop.

Out of there and over to the elevator. Use the key we just found on the slot here. This unlocks the Archives floor.

Down we go.

And the Archives. Two doors. Checking this one out first…

Checking out the other one…

That one is apparently one way and we’re on the wrong side. Other door it is, then.

But luckily, we did just grab a screwdriver.

And luckily, we have a source of electricity too. I see no way jamming live wires with a taser could possibly end horribly.

Amazingly, this springs the door open and does not kill us in hilarious fashion.

I think you made that up.

Anywho, we need to use our screwdriver on the vent down here.

Remove the left screw and the right screw. Remove the vent cover.

Now use the computer over here.

A few buttons on this thing. We’ll try the big red one that says ‘Release’. I’m sure this won’t let out a Tyrant or anything.

…no, no Tyrant. Instead it brings out a little baby robotic spider and drops it on the floor. Okay then.

We’ll be guiding the spider via the control panel here. First we want to steer it left.

This sends it scurrying off through the now opened vent.

Like so. Here, we’ll be moving our friend via the control thingy. He has tank controls. Left and right rotates him, up moves him forward in whatever direction he’s facing, down makes him do an about face from whatever way he was looking. He has no reverse function, as that would be too helpful.

He can also scoot straight up walls. Which is helpful, as we have to get him to that control panel by the door. Reaching that…

Okay, that’s…no. No, I can’t even pretend that justifies why this branch of the FBI has *laser shooting robot spiders*.

Argh. Anyway, our buddy opened the door back over here.

Down this hallwa…

Excuse me?

That’s right, the hallway to the FBI archives is blocked off by *deadly lasers*. What in the goddamn hell?

I just…yeah. Vickie won’t wander down this hallway blind, so we need to use that fire extinguisher I guess she's been carrying in her purse.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njDo...eature=youtu.be

I wasn’t aware those things were so yellow. Yes, I’m complaining about this when the hallway has *deadly lasers*. Arrrrrrgh. So yeah, let’s just keep goi…

…and Vickie still insists that she ain’t wandering no deadly laser hallway blind. Except she can clearly see them now, but she still isn’t budging.

As you might have guessed, the answer lies back with the computer and our robotic spider buddy. We’re going to have to guide him through those lasers. This is the game’s final puzzle, and hoo boy, it is a *bitch* of a mean ass puzzle. So much so that I am going to pause right here, as it's kind of hard to even screencap this thing.
