Part 35: Mission 19 - Great Wings, and Heaven's Light - Part 2

And there goes Zeorymer doing what Zeorymer does. Now it’s back to our regular battle.

Enemy Phase!

The Pikudron harasses Tetsuya while the Gilgils go after Michiru. All of them defend.

Player Phase!

Finally.

: This is it, Balendos! We’re putting an end to you today!
: I accept your challenge! Even my head will be in danger if I keep returning with failures!

Balendos will always defend at this point.

: Blast it…! They’re attacking us instead…!
: Tetsuya! The Great Booster is ready to be launched!
: Really?!
: Yes! I’ll be sending it to the Great Mazinger right now!
: Roger that!
: If you fail the docking sequence, it’ll be all over, understood? Be very careful.
: Hold on, Chief – change the Booster’s path towards the Pikudron instead of the Great!
: That’s far too dangerous!
: But it’s necessary if we want to make sure it’ll destroy it! Please!
: U-Understood!

: (Come on, then…! I can’t waste everyone’s efforts – this has to work!)
: What is he up to?!
: Here goes, Monster of Light! I’m ripping that energy coat of yours to shreds!

: Aah, success!
: I-Impossible! The Pikudron!
: How do you like the Great’s newfound power?
: …!
: Rrrgh, send everything! Attack! We have to destroy them here and now!

Everyone else is still closing in.

Enemy Phase!

While Jun weakens the Gilgils, Ryouma spends his time defending and Open Get’ing his nearby saucerbeasts.

Player Phase!

Following Jun’s efforts, Puru Two leads the charge.

We’ve never seen the Qubeley’s beam saber, have we?

And a boost to Cyber Newtype powers; Puru also kill another and reaches Newtype L3. Getting close to that Twin Funnel money.

And I’ve come to realize that, ever since the rescue operation, I’ve forgotten to use Vega and she’s fallen behind on levels.
We can catch her up quick, though.

That’s two levels right there.

Akira preps a Jinjin and Ayato moves to finish the job.

Done.

Tetsuya and Ginga bag another.

Enemy Phase!

While Ayato gets mobbed and loses his shields (should’ve used Iron Wall), this Gilgil goes for Hugo.

Benkei easily blocks that. This gives a level, teaching Aqua Attune (grants target unit Strike for a turn).

Player Phase!

More levels!

A whole bunch of ZZ folks are level 23 now.

The Purus, killing the two Grangens, already get to 25 and learn Valor! That’s another two people down.

Our Supers get to work on the Koakoas.

Hokuto…

Does not play along. The thing’ll die when it attacks next turn, though.

Enemy Phase!

Balendos is getting weakened by stray shots, this one from the Argama. Bright’s also well positioned to nab a couple of kills next.

Ginga learns Valor when the Koakoa fails to get payback.

Player Phase!

Now we get to clean up.

Another person at level 23.

Bright and crew go to 24, learning Iron Wall and Support Attack L2.

Only Balendos is left now.

: It’s always the same thing with you, attacking while our defenses are sparse!
: That’s called basic strategy and it’s what secures victories. Your arrival will not change the end result!

Hey, we didn’t see this attack either!

: Balendos, was it? You’ll be getting an eyeful of what the Great can actually do!
: His back! Aim for the Great Mazinger’s back!

: You never stop with these cheap tactics, do ya?! But your plan’s busted now that we’re in the area!
: I don’t think so! I need but annihilate the lot of you and the operation will still count as a success!

: We’ve you against the wall, Bracky! Time to settle this once and for all!
: Don’t make me laugh – it’s you who’ll die here!

And, hey, did you know the Toei bots get more combined attacks than the usual ones? Here’s one between Duke and Tetsuya!

But… of course, I have to start whittling down on the number of ZZ kids I have to babysit. Let’s get Iino finished.

That’ll do. Notable drops are a Ramune, an Image Sensor, and a Super Alloy Z.
And I kept Kazuya back because he’s so leveled up but he’s got lines for Balendos:

: So you’re the Vegan Army? Your cowardly tricks are just as bad as the other invaders we’ve had, I see!
: Victory is all that matters! Do not take us to be on the same level as those Baamians and Mycenaean losers!

Bracky wants to bail out but Duke says it’s the end of the road for him: now he’ll get what he deserves for all the innocents he tormented! Bracky is determined to live through it but Balendos has other plans. He leaves in a Minifoo, praising the officer’s gumption.
But Bracky needn’t worry: he’ll relay news of his death to Gandal and will even say he chose death in order to atone for his failure. With a sneering farewell, he leaves Bracky to explode with the Mother Burn.
Hikaru is appalled at the guy being abandoned even by his supposed comrade but, with all enemies dead, it’s time for us to get going.

Back at the Tekkoryu Fortress, Lurahn is gobsmacked when he hears of Aen and Tau’s deaths. Inwardly, Saiga sees that the Zeorymer is truly in the process of bring its true power to bear; Rockfell, meanwhile, wonders if it's that system at work, or perhaps some kind of change within Masato himself
Hell, it could be also be due to that other pilot – Miku Hirumo. Regardless, this requires further investigation. That’s three Hakke Robos destroyed and it’s clear to Yura that the Zeorymer’s now a major threat. Thus, her new orders are to cease trying to capture it and for everyone to focus on just destroying it.

Saiga frowns while Gisou asks that he be allowed to try next; he’s interrupted, however, when Ritsu asks that he be the one to handle this: Masaki Kihara’s crimes are unforgivable and they extend to Masato, his creation.
Saiga quips at the hatred and desire for vengeance that mar Ritsu’s face behind that mask and the guy is quick to tell him to watch his tongue, lest he lose it. Saiga says he was just talking to himself and, besides, this is hardly the time for fights within the family, yes?
Regardless, Yura grants Ritsu his wish, so off he goes: his Rose C'Est La Vie of the Moon will wipe away Heaven and that man’s phantom from the face of the world.
