Part 91: Showdown with Yeager

Yeah, I can't believe we're inside a weapon.

Huh?
Grrr.
Get out here. You're too old for hide-and-seek.

Bravo, bravo, my lad.

Yeager!!
What is it this time? Are you gonna show us how to get to Alexei?
Ja, oh ja. I will show you the way. To hell, that is!

Have you forgotten, my pretties? We are still sworn enemies, you know. Things were destined to end this way between us.
Is this another trap...?
It's just like you said. We're enemies.

Bring it!!

Watch the battle! (same video)
(Ignore that the screenshots are from a different battle than the video, the battle I took screenshots from ended up being way too long so I recorded a different, shorter run for the video.)

Listen to the full conversation!

I guess we're just destined to fight each other.
Why? You helped us in Heracles.
Terribly sorry, but friendship does not last an eternity.

But the guilds working together would bring so much to the people of the world!
Whatever your reasons are, you could still help us defeat Alexei.
If you still want to fight us that badly, we can do it after that.
Now that is a fantasy.
You're right. Let's finish this.
Oh well. Guess it's fate.
I wanted to take care of this like a guild. Guess that won't happen.
Hear the symphony of my attack!

Yeager is... hm. Well.

If you asked people what their least favorite boss fight in Vesperia was, a fair amount of them would probably answer Yeager.

But honestly, for the most part, he's a pretty fun boss fight.

He can be a bit of a dick, but that goes for all human bosses really.

The first half or so of the boss fight is pretty straightforward, no special tricks really.

He's fast and hits kinda hard, but you should be used to this by now.

Once you get him down to half health...

He's just showing off!
Hey, if he tries to use it like that...!

Listen to the full conversation!

Heh, you're just like me.
Ugh, how can all these people just use blastia like that?
Guess there's nothing you could do. But I don't care.
I will send anyone who gazes on this to the deepest abyss!
I don't think so.
I think you're the one about to fall to the pits of hell.
I feel sorry for you, but we won't lose.

Hurry up and yield to me, otherwise you will die here!
Hehe, we've both been dead already. Dying isn't that scary.
I will win. I made up my mind to protect everyone.
You're the one going to hell.

Hehe. This battle with you will make my heart a legend!

His second form deals more damage, but is otherwise mostly the same.

Also, I dunno if that's actually correct, but it certainly feels like Yeager gets more aggressive after his reveal.

Despite that, the general flow of battle remains the same.

Except for when he goes to Over Limit, as he gains access to his Mystic Arte.

This can easily one-hit KO you and there's not a whole lot you can do about it.

Oh, and his second form counts as a separate scan, so don't forget that.

Still, he should go down before too long.

So, why exactly do people hate this fight, then?

Fuck this secret mission.

This secret mission is absolutely retarded. The game's description of this mission is "Made Yeager's heart explode by using Raven's Rain arte when his defenses were down.", and even that's only kinda half the truth. Unless you get insanely lucky, you will not get this secret mission, and even if you know how to do it, it will take you a couple tries.

Basically, what you have to do is, during the second stage of the fight:
- Break Yeager's guard.
- Wait for him to stagger.
- Shoot him with Rain.

Sounds simple, but is a pain in the ass to actually pull off. And of course, the kicker is that you have to use Rain and Rain only -- Rainsong doesn't work.

In practice, the best way I've found:

You want to give yourself as much time as possible, so tell the AI to stop attacking.

Take Yuri, and enter Over Limit.

Attack Yeager with lots and lots of Destruction Field. I'm not 100% sure but I think it's easier to guard break enemies if you have higher attack power, so equip your best stuff. Make sure he guards this -- if he just gets hit back down for a second and try again.

Eventually, his guard will break. Immediately stop attacking.

Open the menu, switch to Raven.

Wait.

It takes a few seconds.

A short while after the Guard Break, Yeager will enter this animation state, putting his hand on his heart.

This is your cue, shoot!

A fucking pain in the ass.

Special: Mystic Arte skill.
Dispersion: Altered Arte skill.
Great Deluge: Altered Arte skill.

The reward? An Alexandrite. Not bad, but certainly not worth the effort.

Achievement/Trophy:

Secret Mission 17 (360) / Secret Mission 18 (PS3)

Be careful. He might still have something up his sleeve.
No no no. These sleeves are empty. This is...ja, this is it.
Your chest... Did Alexei do that to you as well?

Why? Why did you fight alone? With nothing and no one to help you...
Heh...

He was...an awful person. But maybe he also...

Skit: Leviathan's Claw on the Move
With all the henchmen he's got why would Yeager come alone?
Well, he did have his two lady friends with him.
Though they didn't attack us.
Who knows? Maybe he thought dyin' would be the easiest way ta solve his problems.
What do you mean?
I'm not too sure myself.

And that's it for Yeager. Next time we'll proceed further into the dungeon.
