Part 10: Chapter 6 – Crossing the Wellt Bridge

Chapter 6 – Crossing the Wellt Bridge

Welcome back. Today we’re going to move towards Castle Wellt and retake the Wellt Bridge using Eugen “secret strategy”.

: Crossing the bridge will be difficult with the enemy’s ballista sniping us from the other side, but now we have allies on the enemy’s ground to take care of them for us.

: That also means that we are lacking manpower on this side. We will be doomed if a different squad ambushes us from behind.

: Are you saying that my plan was a mistake, Count Maron?

: No, not at all. I am merely saying that we should be wary.

: Count Maron is right. I’ve gotten reports of other troops hiding around here. We need to secure the brdige as quickly as we can. Eugen, Count Maron, give the troops the signal to charge!

: Yes, my lord.

: It shall be done.

Their ambush squad isn’t very bright if simple scouts seem to have noticed them... in fact why not rout them first

: When shall we order the ambush?

: Wait until the enemy advances a bit closer. Then we will have them sandwiched. Do not fail me!

: Yes...

I’ll take it back. How could the scout party be competent seeing who their boss is... Anyway, let’s have a look at the troops we’re facing

Despite his lack of cunning, Dommes is not to be underestimated. He hits like a truck and has skyhigh defense for this point in the game. Given that he is an armor knight I hope you still have Rapier/Estoc uses left on Runan/Mahter/Kate, because he will oneshot Maharaj should you be insane enough to let him into his range. On the other hand you could always have Zieg murder him I guess...

He is accompanied by his standard set of soldiers as well as a weak mage, an annoying healer and two Balistas (Balisti? Balistae..?).

Oh yeah and he brought a tank...

The first Balista gets taken out by the combined effort of Raquel setting up and Maharaj getting the kill which will be a common feature throughout the map.

The other Balista gets taken out by Bartz...

Narron weakens an enemy soldier and gets another good level and yet another point of defense.

Anyway, on turn two Narcissus and Mel arrive in the bottom right corner.

: Okay, Mel that’s the Liberation Army over there on the other side of the bridge. Look for a guy named Runan, he’ll help you out. And don’t forget to give the flute to the princess.

: Where are you going? You’re not coming with me?

: Nope, my job is done. I’m not going to let the old fart order me around anymore.

: I see... That’s too bad.

: Watch out for the chancellor’s soldiers. Don’t try crossing the bridge. Find a shallow path through the river instead. You’ll have to get off your horse to go into the water though. Well then, good luck. I hope you get to see your fiance again.

: Thank you... Take care Narcissus.

And with that Mel joins us for good. She is a Troubadour e.g. a mounted healer but can also use swords, although her strength is pitiful. She is however the first char with a movement growth (at 3%).

: Yes sir.

Zieg starts going down the bridge to clear the way.

while Bartz and Narron clear their side of the map. Narron receives an ok level.

Maharaj continues to rake in the kills set up by Julia and Raquel. Julia meanwhile takes on the last soldier remaining on her island.

the ambush squad finally decides to leave their hiding spot.

Maharaj finishes off another weakened soldier and get a good level out of it.

A mage commits suicide on Zieg and Zieg gets a fantastic level ou of it, putting his growths to good use. Meanwhile Maharaj and Mel have a talk.

: Why haven’t you come back to the temple? Mother has been worried sick about you.

: Hasn’t she told you anything?

: You dont have to worry about your relationship with Roger. Even the Master said that ancient precepts cannot bind down ones heart.

: Maharaj! Is that true?

: Yes. I can tell you all you want later, but not here... You should retreat to the back for now.

: Yes... Thank you, Maharaj...

Our “main force” starts taking on the ambush squad and Sasha goes to talk to their captain.

: What is that, a toy? Huh, you don’t see a girl playing with toy sowrds very often. Anyway, just go home. I’ll have a couple of my men guard you on the way if you want. Where do you live?

: Well... Castle Wellt.

: Castle? ...Look, missy, you shouldn’t joke around about things like that.

: It’s true. You must recognize this emblem if you are a knight of Wellt.

: What? ..W-wait... Princess Sasha?

. That is correct. And you are?

: Y-Yes, my lady! I am Corporal Norton of the castle guard!

. Corporal Norton, are you a soldier serving the royal family, or are you one of Kodder’s personal troops?

: My loyalty lies with the royal family, my lady!

: Then why are you fighting against Count Maron? His army is the true Wellt Army.

: I don’t understand politics very well, but I will follow the princess’ orders! I am at your service my lady!

: Very well, then I ask you to fight alongside us. The enemy is Kodder. Please join our Liberation Army to fight for the people of Wellt.

: Gladly, my lady!

And here is our latest addition Norton. He is an armor knight which means he has good defenses but is slow and can’t move very far. As such he can be a pain to take along and train. If you like him you should promote him as fast as possible to give him access to a horse. His growths are pretty good at least for strength and HP.

Mahter goes and kills one of Norton’s former soldiers and gets a meh level out of it.

Narron continues his clean up duty and he gets a really great level out of it. I would have promoted him right here if I hadn’t forgotten to give him the Knight Proof

Bartz and Zieg continue to murder enemies in their respective locations and Bartz get another meh level

Sasha meanwhile restores the balance and gets a good level. Strength

Plum gets the most ironic level from healing.

tell me this isn’t a tank.. just try to...

Anyway… Zieg hates it with a passion, activates Continue and double crits for good measure. His level isn’t all that great given that he is one of the few units with decent growths.

Bartz

Not a bad level for Julia although she needs some more strength, if she want’s to compete with Vega.

While setting up another kill, Raquel proceeds to almost get a perfect level and given the growths in this game I consider it a perfect level.

Meanwhile, Mel reaches Runan and Sasha and starts to chat both of them up in succession as they make their way down to the boss.

: Oh, Narcissus… So, where is he?

: He…

: he probably ran off again, Lord Runan. I never trusted a thief like him in the first place.

: ...He told me about the Queen’s safety. Queen Liza is being held prisoner in her own quarters by Kodder, but she is in no danger of being harmed. She also sends her respect to you, Count Maron.

: I see... Well, thank goodness for that. I’m glad to see you safe as well, Lady Mel.

: Count Maron...

: Do no worry... Roger is a precious treasure of Wellt. I promise we will break the chains that hold him down in unwilling servitude...

And now for Mel’s conversation with Sasha.

: I was told that her Majesty wants you to use it to soar the skies on a pegasus. That is all that I have heard.

: Thank you... I’m overjoyed. Becoming a Pegasus Knight is like a dream come true...

And we get our hands on Sasha’s promotion item, which will have to wait till she hits level 10 in Princess to get Elite.

Plum gets another meh level from healing…

I was really lucky here, as I left Mahter in range of both the boss and his last soldier… Lucky for me she dodged one of the strikes...

Runan disposes of the last soldier and gets probably the most useful one stat level.

Bartz starts to weaken the boss…

And Raquel sets up the kill with a combination of Continue and her Brave Master Bow for eight consecutive attacks.

Maharaj gets the kill once more...

and gets almost 2 levels out of it. The Level he got could be better but I’m not complaining about a 3-stat-up level.

: Count Maron, the troops aren’t exhausted?

: The joy of liberating their country is fueling them, Lord Runan. There is no need to worry.

: Alright, let’s push on towards the palace. Eugen, give the troops the order to march!

: Yes, my lord!

: Berom, you are the only one I can rely on now. We will execute the plan!

: How is Roger doing?

: He does not yet know of Mel’s escape. He should be fine...

: Good. I still have work for him to do... Curse that Maron! He should be ashamed of himself for seeking aid from a foreign army! Can’t he fight with his own strength, like a man?

: he is indeed fortunate. No one would have expected the Lazerian Knights to land on our shores at such an inopportune time.

: The Lazerians are seasoned warriors. They lasted an entire year against an Imperial Legion in Granada. It is no surrise that our inexperienced troops are having a hard time against them.

I’m not even using a Lazerian Knight outside of Runan which makes this rant even funnier...

: Yes...

: But that shall end here. I have dispatched our elite troops in the town and the plan to split up the enemy’s forces is ready. General Berom, I trust that you shall not fail me.

: Fear not, my lord. The rebels are but prey that have fallen into out trap. I shall take them out in one swift stroke.

And with that we are done with the chapter. Next time we are storming Castle Wellt.

Re-move (level 14)

Mel is your first and only Troubador in the game. While she has access to swords, her low cap and growths for strength, coupled with her low defense should make it obvious that she shouldn’t be on the frontlines. Her mount is a great help, although slightly dimished due to the Far healing Staff having a map wide range, making it less important to keep up with the army in the long run. She is also the first person with a movement growth although you have to get seriously lucky to have any merit from that. As a special condition she will leave your army if Roger should die and vice versa.

Life or Death (starting), City Fighter (starting), Big Shield (lvl 25 or Iron Knight lvl 12)

Norton is your first Armor Knight of the game. He is the typical archetyp: A slow brickwall. His most obvious problem is his severe lack of movement. 3 movement is not only pitiful it’s a giant pain in the ass if you want him to do anything. His growths are decent though (although his promotion is shit outside the horse) and his base stats are alright I guess. Sill seeing how people like Narron get Big Shield as well (without having a weakness to certain weapons) and you have access to shields anyhow it tends to be too bothersome to get him up to speed (outside maybe using the arena). Not a big fan of him (or most armor knights to be honest).
