Part 29: Chapter 20 – The way towards Old Leda Castle

Chapter 20 – The way towards Old Leda Castle

Welcome back. Last time we fought countless monsters in random encounters. Today we fight the same monsters in a plot map... anway let’s get this show on the road and move towards Old Leda Castle.

The map is called The Battle on the Frontier.

: Back when Leda prospered, this was a rich land but thanks to the war and Kranion, nothing but this wasteland remains. Even now it’s just a nest for magical beasts.

: War and Kranion?

: Yep. Around fifty years ago there was a huge war between the kingdoms of Leda and Salia. The conflict lasted seven years. Once Leda fell at an disadvantage it summoned the holy guardian dragon Kranion, breaking the ancient commandment. Kranion had immense power, annihilated Salia and thus won the war for Leda, but Kranion didn’t disappear afterwards and burned down many Ledan cities including the capital.

: !

: Kranion, which hid in the caves in Leda Valley appeared every ten years or so, laying waste to Leda’s old domains. From that age, people started calling Kranion the magic dragon of Leda.

: Magic dragon.... am I the same too?

: Whoops, we don’t have time to chat here. Gargoyles came out this time. Katri, let’s rush forward and flee towards Castle Leda’s ruins. The gargoyles won’t stop coming... if we fight them we’ll stay here forever!

Just as Holmes said the easiest way to deal with this map is to rush forward to the ruins. Gargoyles will spawn from those caves for every turn past the fourth one and continue to do so till turn 15. Key to this map is to protect your squishy units by having both a strong front and rear instead of keeping the healers behind.

The Gargoyles and Ogres hit a bit harder than the previous ones but are otherwise the same.

There are also two Dragon Zombies hanging around the castle ruins who are still quite a threat to squishier units.

Lastly there is one of our eyeball friends down in the swamp protecting a chest with a memory staff. Said staff lets us save mid combat which is already done by save states but even without them, the chapters aren’t long enough to make it worth the hassle. As such he is going to be ignored.

Here is our goal for the map.

We start murdering some gargoyles.

Vega cuts one in half on a counter attack.

Eyeballs start multiplying meaning I have to leave someone behind to protect the rear against them for now.

Some killing on our side requires first aid as well so Plum gets right on the job and gets a horrible level out of it.

We’re slowly advancing leaving Samson behind to deal with the eyeballs.

Some more killing and dancing so that Holmes can sprint over to the ruins.

Our battle formation for most of the map. One of the eyeballs attacks Xeno. Useless.

But it maliciously gives us a bad level in spite.

Eyeball Boss still thinks he is relevant…

And the gargoyles start to come out of their hiding place.

Holmes reches level 20 from offing a gargoyle. Luckily both him and Runan can growth up to level 30 even in their initial class meaning you don’t really have to hold back in using them.

Vega gets a rare good level when slicing up an ogre.

Looks like a nice level but it really misses the important attributes. Still better than most levels I get.

Frau tests out her new Thunder Sword and continues on the path to become our premier magic swordswoman.

We continue to move forward and luckily dodge the Fire Breath of the Dragon Zombie.

We continue to murder our way through the monsters and dodge the second breath as well.

Sun uses her new charge ability to engage the Dragon Zombie in continues combat dealing little damage but critting him and as such finishing off without ever getting hit back. Fantastic.

This is far less fantastic though.

More thunder!

the RNG continues his crusade against Alicia

Anyway, Holmes sprints to the ruins and captures it to finish the chapter.

What are you running from? It certainly can’t be that bad...

The Demon Dragon Kranion

Oh…
