Part 6

BGM: Born a Stranger

: "I suppose she's just no longer needed."

: "No longer needed . . . ?"

: "By ships, I mean. You know how it is, now that everything has GPS and all that."

Johnny pauses, as if coming to a decision.

: "Look, River, this place means a lot to me too, and I've been thinking . . . "

: "By In our current state, things have been pretty stable. If we save well, in a few years, we could afford to build a house on top of here. It's going to be a squeeze, but I'm sur—"

BGM: Fades out suddenly.

: "We'd be able to see her from the window!!"

BGM: Moongazer

: "In the morning, at night, we'd always be nearby! And . . . and we could walk here any time!"

: "Yeah, we will."

: "You gotta be kidding me. You remember what happens, don't you? It's like watching a train wreck."

: "The ending isn't any more important than any of the moments leading to it. The important thing is that over here, they are happy."

: "Let's move on."

No memories links up here. Let’s head south.

: "They were referring to the lighthouse as 'Anya', weren't they?"

: "I suppose so."

: "Then, that River . . . she declined treatment for the sake of a lighthouse? Isn't that a bit too extreme?"

: "I've seen stranger things in the course of the job."

: "Me too, but ugh . . . I can never wrap my head around it."

: "It's none of our business anyway. . . She's not our client."

The abandoned lighthouse by the Cliffside.

The discussion gave us a memory link. Let’s look for some mo-

-…re. Oh. Thanks, guys.

There are a few more memory links on the way to the road. We find everything through exploration.

River left a paper rabbit by the road - it’s our memento.

Gotta go back in time.

BGM: Silence, save for birds chirping.

Johnny left through the door to the right. There’s only one memory link in the room.

I think Neil is just about over the rabbits by this point.

Well, let’s go after Johnny. (Ignore the shifting memory links – I forgot that the rabbit was a link and had to come in here later to grab it.)

An old baby grand piano.

The piano is a link.

: "How the heck did they move this thing upstairs?"

: "Who knows, but I bet it'd be a piece of cake for the TARDIS."

: "Not really; you can't even get it through its door."

: ". . . Mm, true. Well, that settles it: moving pianos is a pain in the arse for everybody. It'd probably take an entire episode to get it inside."

: ". . . I wouldn't mind seeing such an episode."

: "Me neither. It sounds pretty epic."

I’m not sure how you’d get 45 minutes of it but if anyone could make piano moving seem fun…

Walking into the room earns us a memory link.

BGM: Lament of a Stranger

: "You went out for a haircut this early in the morning?"

River doesn’t respond.

: "What are ya making there?"

: "Rabbits."

: "Did you see the rabbit I left for you?"

: "Yeah."

: "Tell me about that rabbit."

: "Huh?"

: "Describe the rabbit."

: ". . . Erm, it was yellow."

: "What else?"

: "A bit puffy."

: "And?"

: "I don't know how else to describe it."

: ". . . You're acting strange, River. Is something wrong?"

Again, River doesn’t reply.

: "River . . . ?"

: "I think I know of her condition, but this is rather odd even for that."

: "You think she's. . . ?"

: "Do you?"

: ". . . Perhaps. Who knows? But like you said, she's not our client. Let's just get what we're paid for over with."

There are two more links in the room.

As is becoming a tradition, the platypus is once again the memory memento.

Deeper into the rabbit hole we go.

BGM: Lament of a Stranger continues into this memory.

We’re back on the road outside of Johnny’s house. River left the platypus in the car but neither her nor Johnny are anywhere to be seen.

Earnin’ memory links by walking.

BGM: Lament of a Stranger fades out to silence. Ocean waves SFX fade in as we get closer to Johnny’s future house.

: "The house that never should've been. I mean really, what is it about unusually high and dangerous places that attract people?"

Something that Johnny and River apparently didn't have.

That earns us a memory link, but there’s still no sign of Johnny or River.

We finally find them on the hill overlooking Anya.

BGM: Born a Stranger

: "Yeah."

: "What about now?"

: "I suppose it's just a part of it. Look, it was a long time ago. It's. . . not too relevant now, but Izzy said I should tell you the truth."

: "I shouldn't have tainted our first meeting like that."

: "What is that? A hacky sack?"

: "Can you throw this as far as where Anya's at?"

: "I don't know. You want me to try?"

: "Would you?"

River sits back down without another word.

: "Think they may be connected?"

: "Probably."

The scene gives us the fourth link. Interacting with River…

…gives us the last one. It’s kind of hard to see, but the memento is Johnny’s backpack – it’s right behind Eva in the screenshot above.

To be continued.
