Part 9: - Aneurysms

09 - Aneurysms

(Music: Routine)

"Let's just begin our surgical conference now, to save time. Those doctors involved, please stick around."

....

"We're starting, Doctor."

....

"Dr. Stiles! Pay attention!"

"..Huh? Wha? Oh, sorry.. I guess I didn't hear you."

"Is everything alright? You've been staring at that X-Ray for a while."

"Uh.. I was just going over today's operation again in my mind. Anyway, let's get the conference started, huh?"

(He's been spacing out a lot recently. At least he's concentrating hard on something, I guess...)

(Music: Patient Profile)

The patient is named after Luka Kovac from ER. If anyone could tell me where Mario comes from, that'd be great. Also, the game spells it 'aneurism' instead of 'aneurysm'. I haven't seen that spelling before.

"He's currently not doing very well. Tests showed a number of aneurisms near his large intestine. Some of them have ruptured, and there is a risk of anemia. We need to preform a laparotomy and treat the aneurisms. The objective of this operation is: -treat the aneurisms on the outer membrane of the large intestine. That should be all. First, inject a sedative into the swollen vessel to reduce its size. Excise the problem area, and suture the vessel closed. You'll need to use magnification again, to help your accuracy. Derek, concentrate on the patient. Don't worry about anything else."

"...Okay!"

(Watch This Operation: Mission 2-4, S Rank)

(Music: Precision)

"The antihypertensive is in effect, but the aneurism could still burst. We need to hurry, Dr. Stiles."

We magnify.

"We have to re-connect the vessels that were cut, but there's a lot of blood in the way. Drain the blood, first."

This is an operation a lot of people have trouble with. The general procedure is inject, cut, excise, drain, clip together with the forceps, and suture. If it bursts, it will deduct around 20 points from the vitals and bless you with a C Rank.

"The vessel area is clear. Now, perform anastomosis."

You can even just use a single straight line to connect the vein and still get a cool.

"The aneurism's been treated... we can finally relax! Let's close him up now, cease magnification."

"Every vessel in the area's in danger of becoming an aneurism! Continue the operation... we'll just have to treat them all!"

The more you treat, the more appear. You must treat five. The biggest thing to remember is that once you cut around an aneurysm or clip it together, it won't do anything. It won't burst, it won't hit your vitals, it won't spawn more. It's best to leave them until you finish the entire section. A lot of people freak out and try to treat them one by one, and that's a good way to lose this level. This is probably the most difficult operations thus far, for that reason.

"Sigh... This doesn't end. Keep up the good work, Doctor."

"We should wait a moment, to be safe, before we close him up."

(Music: Emergency!)

Don't panic! Inject and cut one at a time, and move on to the rest.

"Wait, what about... if you use the Healing Touch!"

No.

No, I'm just good at this game.

"It's incredible, but at the same time, it's a little frightening. If every doctor had that ability, what would the world be like? Uh, I'm sorry... Let's close him up."

In the video, I S rank the mission. You must complete it in around 3 minutes, and have no misses, healing touch, or aneurysm bursts.

"Make sure you don't rely on it too much. You still need to hone your basic skills."

The screen begins to flash black several times.

(Huh? What the...)

"I know it won't be easy, but you didn't take this job because-"

(Everything's... going black...)

"Derek, are you even listening? Derek? What's wrong?"

Derek collapses and the screen fades to black. And I didn't even use the Healing Touch.

Next time: Derek should get his syncope looked at. I lied about the character page.
