Part 40: - Finale: Mission X-7

40 - Finale: Mission X-7

At long last, the ending. First off, here's an answer you've all been waiting for:

"But... What if I told you this Death existed in all human DNA? ...I merely gave it the chance to take form."

GUILT, or at least Savato (though Second Opinion hints this is true for all of them), is merely noncoding DNA that Delphi packaged and released into the population. None of you quite guessed it during Goon Diagnosis, but with good reason. It doesn't make a lot of sense.

"This is the Death you have denied. ...Our guide to the truth."

"We found a way to overcome Death-- that was humanity's choice!"

Ah, Savato. Once you stop panicking you'll realize it is nothing for you to be afraid of. My advice to those who cannot beat this mission is to forget the small bugs exist and focus only on vitals and webcutting, and later laser, vitals, and cuts in that order. But if you're still having trouble, I'm a woman of my word, and I will finally teach you the Savato Glitch:

When Savato loses all of its protective coating, the moment you slice it with the scalpel you must place your laser on it. Your laser must be at least 3/4 charged. Hold down the laser until Savato moves again, and its coat will not have regenerated: you may hit it a second time with the scalpel, shortening the mission significantly. See this glitch in action around the 3:51 mark of the video. Unfortunately, this glitch can only be preformed once per operation, but I now promise you that Savato will present you with no significant challenge ever again.

One last bonus: In Second Opinion, if you rapidly toggle the C button during this mission once your laser runs out, you get to use the laser in short bursts even though it is supposed to be dead. In other words, infinite laser. Enjoy. (My high score on Second Opinion X-7 is a little less than 80,000 points - do your best and try to beat it!)

Please note that there are Second Opinion spoilers in the commentated video.

Finally, the elusive 'Secret Ending':

"Your skills have given birth to many lives which never should have been. As it is written in Revelations 9:6, 'During those days men will seek death, but will not find it -- they will long to die, but death will elude them.' Just as the prophecy states, I have set a plague upon mankind to torment those who have betrayed natural law. ...At the end of all life, I alone will stand as an angel before the gaping abyss... I, who have become the great destroyer Apollyon! ...Your medicine is deceit, and you are nothing but a false prophet..."

Apollyon, more commonly known as Abaddon, is the Jeudo-Christian "Destroyer" and the Angel of the Pit. He sends the plague of locusts upon mankind at the time of judgment. Sometimes he is compared with the Angel Michael - in other writings, he's the Devil himself. It's now clear that Delphi worships Adam as the incarnation of Abaddon, completing the Aum Shinrikyo parallel at last.

Once you finish this mission, you are presented with the following message in Second Opinion only:

"Derek Stiles and Naomi Kimishima overcame Adam's ordeals and triumphed over GUILT. But, what does the future hold for these two gifted surgeons...?"

Well, Derek gets a bad sequel and after that Atlus forgot this series exists-

"Congratulations! You've completed the most difficult surgeries ever devised. However, remember that you're not actually a doctor, so you shouldn't perform surgery in real life. ...Unless, of course, you are a doctor. In which case, we would advise you not to tell your patients how many tries it took you to complete a game about surgery."

...I'll have to keep that last part in mind.

Well, I did it.

Damn. Look at that. Full disclosure, thread: I've never S-Ranked every mission in the game before. This is my first time doing it.

And it feels incredible. I started this thread partly to accomplish that goal, but in the process I was able to share with you how much I like it. I hope you enjoyed it, too.
