Part 75: Chapter 8, Part 1

CHAPTER EIGHT: OH GOD, WHY ARE WE STILL PLAYING THIS GAME?

: What is it? What's wrong?
: It's the ship; I don't have control of her anymore. Look, it doesn't matter where I steer, we're only going one way. It's like we're being taken somewhere.

: Okay... this is new.
: This looks like serious trouble.
: We can't get off of this island. I don't know what's keeping us here, but you had better go back and find out. Be careful.
: What will you do?
: I'll... uh... guard the ship.

Before we go through the gigantic doors we're going to veer left.

Terfin is absolutely swarming with dragons. We avoid pissing them off.

The Crook of Charming is the starting weapon we would have been given if we had chosen to become a Shepherd. It's one of the most powerful weapons in the game and it casts Charm on enemies that are hit with it.

Now we can get back to our meeting.

Oh god

What is wrong with this guy?

Blackthorn!

For your enjoyment, I recorded this video of the cutscene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crHVUnqodMc

For your un-enjoyment, here is the abridged version:

: Hello Avatar, I'm glad you're here. Both you and your associate are about to learn the penalty for interfering with my work.
: I'm the king.
: Avatar, tell my daughter that I love her.
: Your daughter?
: Raven. She... AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

: How very touching. There, now that he has been dealt with, I have some business with you, Avatar.

: Blackthorn, you may leave us now. I would like to speak privately with our friend.
: But my lord, I feel that...
: I said leave us!
: Yes, my lord.

Then Blackthorn leaves.

: He truly is a worm, isn't he? Oh well, I still need him for a while yet, then I can get rid of him.

Lightning hurts.

We fight back, but every time we hurt the Guardian we take damage.

: Do you understand yet? Do you see that you can't hurt me?
: All of your energy, all of the damage that you would inflict upon me, is reflected back onto yourself.
: It's futile, Avatar; you can't hurt me. You can't win!

: Are you beginning to see the futility of resisting me, Avatar?
: Why do you struggle so if you can't win? None can stand against me, surely you know that by now.
: Take for example your friends in Skara Brae: it's true that they have managed to avoid the effects of my columns, but that is of no matter.
: If I can not turn a thing, I can at least destroy it. If I can't deprive the people of Skara Brae of their spirituality, I will deprive them of their lives!

The Guardian shows us wonderful things. I think it's our reward if we decided to change sides or something.

Violence doesn't seem to work on the Guardian. This sucks because violence is all we know how to do.
