War in the East

by Grey Hunter

Part 47

I make a series of attacks in the north, but lots of the Russian positions are just to well dug in.

As you can see, this includes the Recon reports, and the enemy are not all that strong here.

9th Army is facing a number of Russian forces.

They make a limited offensive, mainly to stop the Russians from moving any troops away from the defence of Moscow.

2nd Army also makes their own push, but cannot move into it. There are many Russian units breaking, which is going to cost then.

I can't pinch off that bulge at Tula, but I do move to isolate it more. We can break a hole in their line near Voronezh however.

6th Army smashes a hole in their section of the line as well.

17th Army shifts the line backwards as well.

I then throw my tanks into action. 2nd Panzer army tears into the Russian ream cutting off a few units and threatening some more.

We cross the Don and get to the banks of the Donets, cutting off another five units.

3rd and 4th Panzer armies move to positions where they can exploit any holes made by the lead units.

We even open up the Crimean a little more, the Russians are going to need to pull huge numbers of men in to hold these lines.

They push back a Hungarian unit I pushed into the gap near Voronezh, but the losses are not to bad.

They then seem to evacuate the area, I should be able to advance into this, but I'll need to run some recon flights to confirm how empty this area is.

In the south, the Russians see the threat of a large scale encirclement, and seem to pull back nearly sixty miles, losing any fortifications they had constructed over the winter.

I still have five infantry divisions and a tank brigade trapped, and with this mud, all I can hope to do is clear them up and help out the 2nd Panzer Division, who I foolishly sent a little to far east.

We inflicted eighty five thousand casualties on the Russians this week, with the chance of increasing this rapidly.

We maintain our numbers above three million men, and the Russians don't seem to change much in number.

Replacements continue to come in strong.

I've burned a third of my fuel pool, but I think it was worth it, just to force the Ruski's out of their winter defences.

Now doesn't this look a hell of a lot better.
