Part 39: Turn 42 - 15th April 1944
The 2nd Special Service Brigade retreat but they have done good work.
I'm going to have to think about this, but I think the encirclement may be on!
I dial in my air strikes.
The weather improves, and my strikes go in.
The 8th do good damage to their more select targets.
The advance begins, but the lead units are not as well supplied as I would like. Bloody mountains!
This fortified zone is actually useful. It allows the retreating troops to hold.
My tanks cut the rail line this at least prevents a mass breakout!
I push up on the west coast.
I need to keep these guys pinned down so they can't move to stop the breakthrough
We're about to hit mountains on this flank though.
I take this fortified zone out before it can be garrisoned. That would have been painful!
I displace a HQ unit, which is always nice, then advance into open ground. They seem to be recombining their divisions.
For once an airborne drop lands where I want it securing the rail line and giving the Germans one hex to retreat through the swamps of Comacchio!
The guys down south hop across a ferry to Messina, then boat up to where my rail lines will work. It's almost like I planned it. There are no working ports north of here, so this is the best I can do.
That was a nice positioning turn.
Here is a quick look at the men under arms.
