Wing Commander III & Standoff

Part 112: Loki System, Vega Sector, Mission 3 (Story)

Not actually very much story here - the Behemoth arc feels a bit rushed in some places, and this is one of them; I'll talk about it more in the next story update.

Loki System, Vega Sector (Mission 3)
TCS Victory

Following the successful destruction of Loki VI, the Behemoth heads for the jump point to Kilrah; where the Kilrathi have managed to assemble a fleet to bar the way.

Gunnery Control

Hobbes is understandably a bit pensive as the Behemoth approaches Kilrah. He always gives the impression of considering his words; these ones are even more considered than usual.

(I'm not entirely sure that a pat on the shoulder from a Kilrathi would be particularly reassuring, but I guess Hobbes means well...)

: It has been many years since I have been this near to Kilrah.
: I understand if you have mixed feelings about the Behemoth, and what it's about to do.
: It has been a long war that has turned all of us... inside-out.
: There will be Kilrathi that survive, and when the war is over, they'll understand what you did.
: No one, ever, will... truly understand what I did. But your loyalty has meant much to me, my friend.

Rec Room

The only other thing for us this mission is the killboard (I'd do a TNC newsbrief, but we've got a couple coming up that go specifically after the next mission). Flint has almost overtaken Maniac in total kills; I would claim this proved the superiority of my favourite wingman given her defensive flying style leads to her taking much less damage, but then again given what we've seen in this playthrough, she's probably pretty much level with him in ejections as well.

Mission Briefing
Briefing Room

Tolwyn's sticking with the brief sort of briefing. There's really only so many ways you can say "Protect the Behemoth" when it comes down to it.

: This is it, Colonel. I've been waiting ten years for this glorious moment. We're about to hit the jump point. From there, it's straight to Kilrah. Protect the Behemoth at all costs. The future of the Confederation depends on it.

Choose your own Blair!
The Excaliburs aren't ready yet, but Tolwyn's forging ahead without them, so it's still only the Arrow and Hellcat to fly, and the usual wingmen (last mission was with Hobbes, so not him. More importantly, now you've seen how all six difficulty levels play and what the resulting videos are like, I'd like to know what difficulty level you think would be best for the remainder of the LP. In order of difficulty (actual as opposed to what the game thinks), those are Rookie (mission 23; that is, last mission), Veteran (mission 21), Hard (mission 20), Ace (mission 22), Crazy (mission 19) and Nightmare (missions 1-18). If you don't pick Nightmare, I'll do a bonus video of what I consider the game's hardest mission on Nightmare just to show that I can. It probably won't have much commentary though, since it'll take ages and I'll have enough stuff to be doing with the non-bonus videos.
