Wing Commander III & Standoff

Part 136: Freya System, Vega Sector, Mission 4 (Story)

I'm pretty certain there's no change if you're dating her. At least, there's only one set of lines in the script, and as far as I'm aware only one file on the CDs for Flint's funeral.

For those of you who aren't aware, by the way, Privateer 2 just got re-released on GoG. That'll be something to add to both my "to play" and "potentially to LP" lists...

Freya System, Vega Sector
TCS Victory

The Victory jumps back to Freya to head off a Kilrathi attempt to retake the system.

Rec Room

Since you picked Flint as wingman for the last mission, there aren't actually any cutscenes between the previous mission and the next one. If you hadn't, Flint would display her customary insecurity in this scene:

: [moves in to kiss Flint]
: [pulls away]So explain something to me. Now that we’re flying in tandem on-board, why do I no longer rate as your wingman?
: You know I have to spread assignments around.
: And why do I get the feeling none of ’em are going to spread my way?
: Hey, I’m trying to protect you.
: Oh, that’s a good one. Listen, you can’t freeze me out like this, I want a piece of the action.

Seriously, girl. It's been one mission. Anyway you have the two obvious choices following this, but since this conversation didn't actually happen in the play-through we're doing (Flint has no reason to complain because we did take her out as our wingman), I'm just going to put both of the options here.

The high-morale choice, called "Give her a shot…":
: Once a fighter jock, always a fighter jock. Is that it?
: Yeah, that’s right, and don’t you forget it, fly-boy.
: <laughs> All right, you’ll get your shot.
: And you know you won’t regret it.

Note that this doesn't actually set Flint as your next wingman, so you can say this and then be a total jerk and never take her out again. If you're that way inclined.

and the low-morale choice, "I’m not gonna gamble with her life…"
: I’ve already lost one… pilot, I’m not losing another. The war can get along just fine without you.
: Then so can the Colonel.

The video for this scene will have the high-morale choice, because the idea of me choosing not to fly with Flint is quite silly.

Meanwhile, the killboard is still the killboard. Blair's lead over the next-nearest pilot is now approaching Vaquero's total killscore.

: Let’s get down to business, shall we?
: I’m ready, sir.
: Our jump point to Kilrah in the Freya system is being threatened. We can’t allow the Kilrathi to take it back… not if we’re going to put it to use later. Give it your best, Colonel. Dismissed.

Unlike the last jump point defence mission, this one does have separate nav points in it (and it has proper Kilrathi capital ships and not goddamn Kamrani corvettes - I'd love to say we've seen our last Kamrani for the game, but sadly that's not true. I will mark the occasion with appropriate celebration when it actually occurs).

Choose your own Blair!
No conversations means no conversation choices, but there's a free hand in your choice of fighter and wingman (all of whom are now at risk of dying).
