Wing Commander III & Standoff

by Ilanin

Part 140: Kilrah System, Kilrah Sector, Mission 1 without wingmen (featuring Jade Star as guest commentator) (Gameplay)

So, just about managed "this weekend", despite the weekend turning out to be rather busier than I'd expected.

Bonus Update - Kilrah System, Kilrah Sector (Mission 1) - no wingmen run

Featuring Jade Star on guest commentary. There's no changes to the briefing if you go solo - Blair doesn't have any special lines for it, the wingman selection just continues to Blair dismissing the flight wing without any of the normal selection videos being spliced in.

Mission Video (Youtube) (Polsy)

Kills this mission: 34, based on 35 enemies and only one collision. I don't get to count these ones for the running total, since the challenge run didn't "actually" happen. I'm not sure, though...I was thinking that the with-wingmen run should be the "official" one, but that will cause certain plotholes with WC4 (Vagabond's in it). So maybe the no-wingmen (and hence no wingmen lost) run should be official, since I'm also not going to go to any particular lengths to save Maniac.

I comment in the video that I'll explain the possible excuses for the asteroid refuelling depot in the thread, so I guess I'd better. There's two possible occasions when Covert Ops could have attempted to set up such a depot. One is Angel's mission, since we know she definitely set up a transmitter and some gravitic sensors in orbit at very least. The other is that Paladin made a penetration of the Kilrah system aboard the escort carrier Eagle using Tolwyn's Behemoth group as a distraction, so he might have been able to do something then - but even that's obviously before the Temblor bomb was assembled, since the Alcor missions where we rescue Dr. Severin happen after the Behemoth is lost.

Locating the Temblor bomb with and (subsequently) without wingmen
