Part 9: Chapter 2-3: Get Out of Jail Free

Chapter 2-3: Get Out of Jail Free

Welcome to the next highly belated update in the Wizardry LP! Let's get started.

New stone! Not bad healing once level 3 becomes a little more common.

Warren gained a level, also.

I'm going to go back to B1 briefly to access another quest. I'm going to regret this.

(Also known as the "Annoying Characters Song")

"DIARY" was written on the cover of the book.

He-----ey!

The face of evil.

- He---ey! what the... that's my...!

The girl suddenly appeared and pointed at the book you were holding. Her hand was shaking in anger.

- Did you read my diary?!

How will you respond?

I read the diary.
I didn't read it.

Well, if you don't count the front cover, then...

- Phew...! Am I glad! You really didn't look at it, right?... right? What do you mean?! This is MY room! I don't allow people to just walk in and out without my permission! Comprende?! Then, get the heck out!

You were forced out by her without understanding what was going on.

The annoying is strong in this one.

Anyway, back to the Tavern really quick for... more evil.

http://blip.tv/file/4634968

W... Wait!

As you tried to leave the Tavern, an energetic girl ran up to you.

- *Whew*... I made it... You're the one, right?! I'm Helga Shumit. Nice to meet ya! The bartender told me you accepted my quest... Hey, wait a second! You were that peeping Tom! How dare you just walk into a helpless maiden's room like that!

- ...Oh, who cares! Anyways... the quest! You're lucky that you're able to grant my wishes! You better be honored! So listen up! I'm gonna be rich soon! When I thought up this idea, even I was afraid of my own intelligence... You cast a spell on a stone. I call it...

- If all goes well, I'll be able to make Magic Stones without materials! Then I'll open up Duhan's first Magic Stone Shop! If a Magic Stone Shop opens, then you won't need Vigger's Shop anymore, right? Then, customers will swarm to my store like flies to... booyah! I'll be the most popular store around! Cha-ching! So, I need a stone. A stone I say! In reality, all I need is any old stone. But the stones in the Labyrinth seem stronger!

- .... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! Th-Th... That's it! That stone you have! That's a Labyrinth Stone! It's the one that stone-fetish Orc was carrying! I was hoping I could get my handson that stone! Hey, hey! Gimme, gimme! It's for me, right!?

Will you give her the stone?

Yes
No

There's no reason not to give her the stone Gotz gave us from earlier. It has no other use in the game. Sadly, it also means Helga will keep talking.

You gave her the Labyrinth Stone.

- Alright! I misjudged you. You have reached the rank of "good person" on my charts. Congratulations! I'm a big step closer to my Magic Stone Shop! I have to bring this home and start researching!

- Thanks a bunch! You can come if you want. I'll show you the historic moment when a Magic Stone is born! Tootles...

Helga left with a big grin on her face.

You got a Creta Stone.

You got 200 Exp!

You can go back to Helga's room on B1 if you want more insanity... but honestly, I think my eyeballs would begin secreting acid that would devour the front half of my brain if I saw her again, so let's do something else.

Here's a video of the Erotic Ninja Glitch I mentioned in an earlier update. It's not a great example, but it'll sort of show what I mean. If I come up with a better video, I'll show it in a later update. http://blip.tv/file/4634917

]

Back on B2, we have to go through the rope bridge puzzle again. It resets each time we leave this floor. Thankfully, this should be the last time we'll have to go this way.

In case you're confused, the rope bridge leads to a platform with a series of holes to jump into. This leads directly down to the previous inaccessible layer of the jail.

You can't see it very well in a screenshot, but when priests are killed they topple over like you shot them in the face with a shotgun. It always makes me smile.

http://blip.tv/file/4634824

(Insert clanging noises for this next cutscene)

You decided to attack the monsters before they noticed you!

And then I fight a basic random encounter. Yawn.

After the samurai helped the priestess to her feet, he turned towards you.

- As a soldier of Duhan, I'm ashamed of myself for being such a disgrace.

They both seem to be soldiers of Duhan.

The samurai bit his lip, as you spoke to him about the order you accepted to find a missing unit of soldiers.

- We are that missing unit of soldiers. Actually, the two of us are the only survivors of the unit. So, I guess you can't call us a unit anymore. We were researching the Undead monsters. We've found out the cause of them flooding the town all the way from the 4th Level, but...

- It wouldn't have turned out this way if I only had more magical powers.

- Don't worry about it. It's our leader's fault for going in without knowing how the enemy would attack. If you prove yourself in action, you can still become a Queen's Guard. Our leader must have really been fretting.

- Prove myself in action, huh? I thought we were doing this for Her Majesty?

- Well, there are those who are not doing it for that purpose.

- How dare them... If Sophia heard, she'd be very disappointed.

- Sophia? Are you talking about Sophia, the Sacred Healer of the Queen's Guard? Isn't she your superior?

- She has the power to heal, and soothe emotions. Her power to heal is much praised, but that is not all that she has... Anybody who faces her would feel a type of comfort that soothes the heart. Anybody can protect Her Majesty physically from danger. But, Sophia is the only one who can protect the emotions of Her Majesty. I believe she is a true Queen's Guard. Isn't THAT the purpose of a Queen's Guard?

- .........

The priestess came to her senses abruptly, and looked down in embarrassment.

- Oh, I'm sorry for babbling. And I'm not even a Queen's Guard...

- Don't worry, I don't mind. Now, we both need to get back to town somehow.

- Yes, we do.

The samurai turned towards you.

- I'll report to Sir LeDua about you. I'm sure you will receive some kind of reward. So if you have time, stop by at the Imperial Quarters. And if I may ask of you, please give this to a samurai who is roaming in the 4th Level of the Labyrinth.

The samurai wrapped a katana in a cloth and handed it to you as he spoke.

- He looked out for me when I was searching the 4th Level. He said he would keep on searching alone, but that area is a nest for the Undead. Even for a samurai, it would be a tough fight without spells. But, with this Katana, it can kill the Undead. This Katana holds some moderate magical powers.

You got the Sword Sheath!

- The samurai's name is Matsuri. He is easy to recognize, with hair bound. I apologize for the trouble. But, I have faith in you.

After the samurai spoke, he took the priestess' hand and started walking.

Sadly, we can't use that katana even with a samurai in the party, as it's a key item.

The final layer of the jail is the same as the others above, with a couple of exceptions.

You might say it's "bad to the bone."

There is a skeleton on the ground.

"Gilman" was written on a name tag.

This place was where criminals who committed serious crimes were detained.
It seemed to be awhile since he died, because all that was left was his skeleton.

But, from the sturdy frame of the skeleton, it was easy to tell that he was a big man.

The features of the remains before you matched the description given from the quest that you accepted.

As proof for the person who requested this quest, you decided to bring back the name tag.

Now we can finish Lorenzo's quest. But since we're down here, we might as well turn on the elevator that will let us finish B2.

Correction. Let's dodge around Death while turning on the elevator that will let us finish B2.

http://blip.tv/file/4634852

(Told you)

- Damn! If only I had more strength... There's something suspicious about that switch on the other side of the room. It's probably a switch to operate the elevator. But, ya know... Life's full of crap.

The Hobbit thief let out a deep sigh.

- The lever won't budge no matter how hard I push or pull it. Oh well... I guess I should give up.

The Hobbit thief left disheartened.

The switch was trapped, but easily disarmed. And finally, the elevator we saw way back near the beginning of the chapter can be used.

- Whoa! There was a trap set, just as I thought.

It was the Hobbit thief, who left just a moment ago depressed.

- I knew something was fishy. My intuition scares me sometimes.

The Hobbit thief smiled as he said this.

- Hehe, don't get upset! We adventurers need to cooperate. You're lookin' for it too, right? The real treasure of this Labyrinth. Rumor gets around, ya know... I heard it's a treasure so great, no king has ever laid his eyes on it. That's why even the Queen is after it...

The Hobbit thief suddenly lowered his voice.

- About the treasure in the Labyrinth, it's actually a camouflage... The investigation is just a cover for them to search for the treasure. I'm sure you've seen the Duhan soldiers roaming around in the Labyrinth, right? We need to find it before they do! I'm Daniel. If something happens again, let's help each other, OK?!

What is it with this update and annoying little creatures?!

Oh yeah, so, who wants to see a Reaper chase? http://blip.tv/file/4635011

After running roughly a mile up a passage that serves as a one-way shortcut back to the elevator room...

We can finally proceed!

Another switch on the bottom level of the jail allows the secondary elevator to be used too.

The stairs down to B3 are here as well, but I'm going to warp back to town really quick to finish up another quest.

- So was Gilman dead?

You gave him the Name Tag that you found on the 2nd Floor.

You told him about the corpse which you believe to be Gilman.

- I see...

Lorenzo got all choked up.

He made a cross and whispered a prayer.

He finally realized his desire, but his face was clouded, bearing the sadness.

- This is a bit sacreligious, but... If he was still alive, I would have some things to say to God. Now I can finally look God in the face.

- Living is hard, isn't it... We're happy just living and dying like normal. But, why do we have to hate others...?

You got a Petrified Dagger.

You got 1500 Exp!

And so, Lorenzo's quest is finished. Pretty good rewards, too.

There's another quest while we're up here.

He looked calm, but his eyes dashed around.

He began whispering to you.

- You may think it's a strange quest, but hear me out... I want you to find out who I am.

According to the man, he lost his memory in the Flash.

He said that when he came to his senses, he was wandering the prison. He had no idea who he was or where he had come from.

He only had a single clue. It was a woman's Brooch.

- Can you took a look at it?

It was a beautiful Brooch.

It must have been the work of some well-known craftsman.

- I don't recognize it, but it must mean something for me, a man, to be carrying it.

You got the Brooch from him.

- It may be a difficult quest, but please...

With some spare sorcerer's earrings, a new spell is made. Zateal is a row-based thunder attack, just like Teal, but it's a bit higher level.

Finally, with a couple more level increases, chapter 2 is finished! Join us on chapter 3, for the dreaded Labyrinth!

...Oh, wait, that's the name of the dungeon. Well, in any case, see you for the next a-"maze"-ing update!
