Yu-Gi-Oh: The Sacred Cards

by Missile Waster

Part 6: Quarterfinals

Part 6: Quarterfinals

We meet up at the card shop.

Yo, PersonMN. We've been waiting for you. I finally got my sixth locator card together.

Okay, let's check where the finals are taking place.

Huh? Where is this?

Is it the stadium? The one that's supposed to open soon?

So that's where the finals are? Okay! Let's go!

So we go to this new stadium for the finals.

This is it?

It's awfully desolate... Are you sure this is the right place?

Oh, PersonMN. And your frends, too.

Hey, it's Namu. Are you in, too?

I managed to remain, somehow. I think I got very, very lucky.

Well, it's cool to see that all of our friends are here!

This must be the place. Let's go inside.

And inside we go!

I was thinking you'd been knocked out.

Hey, quiet. I'm not about to lose easily.

Side note: He loses easily.

Seto Kaiba is here, too. So that's six duelists. Who are the remaining two?

Five minutes to go!

Oh, man, we were cutting it way too close.

Gasp... Just made it...

Ryou Bakura? I didn't know you were competing.

I had a late start. It was pretty close. I slept in...

Bakura seems to be making a lot of excuses

That leaves one more duelist...

He hasn't appeared yet, that Marik Ishtar. I wonder if he will appear.

At this point I had no clue what the fuck to do. I think I needed to talk to everyone until eventually the announcer guy in front of the blimps ramp told me it was time to go.

And here he is, Marik finally shows up.

So he's Marik Ishtar...

That's him... He's not getting away....

We go into the ship, and they begin this lotto system thing to determine who fights who.

Round 1, Yugi vs Bakura!

Huh? Me?

Okay... I'm to duel Ryou...

Heh, now this is a must-see match. I just hope it doesn't end like before. It's a bit worrying.

I think Joey is talking about their match at Duelist Kingdom, where Yami Bakura put everyone's souls into their favorite cards and Yami Yugi had to duel using them.

Now up to the stage on top of the blimp.

Fufufufufu...

Ryou?

I have come for your Millennium item!

You're under the Millennium Ring's control...

Yugi. Show me. Show me the other Yugi. I'm not holding anything back. Do it.

Yeah, it has to be you. The boy is too weak. I'm going to beat you and Marik Ishtar. And make the Millennium items mine. Come on!

Bakura proceeds to take giant dragon dick right in the ass. Slifer kills the hell out of him.

...I lost again... But that card...

It's Slifer the Sky Dragon. It is a god card that can be used only by the chosen.

But... But you had it... Urrrrgh...

Yami Bakura passes out.

Now, after each battle, I'll explain what actually happened during any given battle in the finals, as they are obviously different in the game. This one is the only one that is unchanged. Yami Yugi and Yami Bakura dueled, and Yami Bakura used Destiny Board to almost win, forcing Yami Yugi to use Slifer to win.

We're back in here to find out the next matchup.

Oh god dammit.

It's him... PersonMN, be careful.

But is that really Marik Ishtar?

Huh? What makes you say that, Yugi?

Bearers of Millennium items can tell others like them. But, it's more or less just a feeling. I guess it's just on an instinctive level...

You shall be judged by the will of the gods...

No... I'm sure of it, that isn't Marik Ishtar.

Why do you say that?

When I spoke with his alter-ego, he felt different. There was an overwhelming sense of evil from him. But I don't get that feeling from this duelist.

PersonMN! You shall fall to my god card!

Now, I really wanted to use Obelisk in this duel, and almost lost while waiting to draw it because of Relinquished, which some of you may recognize as the monster Pegasus used. It basically takes over one of your monsters, and he did this to my Summoned Skull, which fucked me over until I drew Blue Eyes White Dragon on my next turn. I then proceeded to continue to curbstomp him until I got Obelisk.

I used his effect, which destroys all of your opponents monsters and deals 4000 direct damage to your opponents life points. God. Damn.

Mystical Beast Serket is a pretty cool monster, for each monster it destroys it powers up. In real life. I think it can only do it once in this game. Still, it's like Summoned Skull but better thanks to its effect, so it's worth putting in your deck. Except that 279 cost, jesus christ.

Tch... The fool lost...

The gods have forsaken me... Master Marik...

What... What's with this weather?

What's happening? What is this?

The god card is angry... He wasn't the rightful owner, and yet he used it.

Very astute of you, Yugi.

Namu... You're Marik Ishtar.

That's right, Namu was actually Skeletor Marik Ishtar!

Now, this duel obviously went differently, because PersonMan wasn't in the anime (he was a background character in the GX manga), this duel was fought by Joey. Joey was the one who originally began to doubt that Odion was Marik, saying that he knew this because Marik was in his head and Odion didn't feel like Marik. Everyone else began to doubt him because he didn't use Ra. Welp, Odion decided to shut these guys up by summoning Ra (well, actually, Marik told him to). Only, his Ra was counterfeit. The real Ra got pissed and smited Joey and Odion. Kaiba declared that the first person to get up (AFTER GETTING STRUCK BY HOLY LIGHTNING) would be called the winner. It was Joey. Odion was in a coma the Shadow Realm. Odion, as Marik's "protector" basically kept his evil side at bay, and by being knocked out, Marik's evil side could come forth. Yes, the part of Marik that wanted all of the God Cards and Millennium items so he could take over the world wasn't the evil half.

I had assumed his guise to get close to you. It allowed me to brainwash your friends.

You... That's beyond dirty!

Say what you will... The long years I had raged and cursed the world... The pain carved into my body, my very being... Could you even begin to understand? Finally, I shall obtain all the god cards. And I will get my revenge on you and the world!

Kiyaaah!

What?!

Odion passes out.

Fufufufufu... Hahahahaha!

Look at Marik Ishtar's expression...

Behold, a display of total destruction and terror! I will destroy everything with the god cards!

How do you like that? He just lost an ally...

Marik Ishtar... What is he planning?

And the Round 3 matchup is;

Yeah good luck with that Joey.

Heh, finally I get my crack at the guy. Marik Ishtar, you'll get yours... I'm not going to lose to that freak.

Marik Ishtar is trapped by his own evil will... Joey, be careful of the shadow in his soul...

And up top we go!

I'll congratulate you on breaking my control... But I'm not the same as I was before... There will be no weakness for you to exploit. I will deliver you at once to the Shadow Realm!

Do you think you can scare me with those threats? I'll expose you as a total fraud!

Joey is then murdered by The Winged Dragon of Ra.

Hahaha! It's the Shadow Realm! Let fear overwhelm you in the land of shadows!

So the Scarecrow uses his Fear Gas to knock Joey out.

Fwahahahaha!

Wheeler!

Marik Ishtar! What are you up to?

My objective? I have no such thing. All I seek is to destroy all except myself. Fwahahahaha!

Alright, in the anime Marik actually dueled Mai. She used Exchange (or something like it) to switch a card in her hand for a card in Marik's hand. She took Ra while he took whatever. She could have won, but she decided to summon Ra. Welp summoning Ra required the user to recite an incantation which she didn't know, so Marik recited it so Ra came under his control. He then beat her and she died was sent to the Shadow Realm.

Joey is unconscious and we're all comforting his practically dead body.

I go into the room with Odion and find Marik ready to kill him. Seriously, even in the anime they show Marik pulling the dagger out of the Millennium Rod to kill Odion.

...Odion... You... Who's there?!

Marik acts like I just walked in on him jerking it or something.

Ah, it's you... You will suffer the same fate as Joey Wheeler... Prepare for your fall.

He pushes me out of the way and leaves. After he leaves, I come up with a good burn, but it was already too late...

Yeah no one saw that coming.

Humph, another dreg...

Can't you come up with another fucking insult? God damn.

Says you. I'll show you for looking down on women.

On the roof;

I'm going to put the boot to Marik Ishtar. Wheeler, hang on...

Kaiba sticks it to this woman. That'll show you for trying to get equal rights!

Gah! I couldn't win!

I'm obtaining all the god cards. I will defeat Yugi and become the Duel King! The likes of you aren't worth my time!

I'm sorry... Joey, I'm sorry...

Now, as I said before, Mai dueled Marik in the first round, and as PersonMan didn't appear until season 9, who could Kaiba have dueled? Well, Ishizu made it to the Quarterfinals, and used her Millennium Necklace to cheat see the future and know what Kaiba would do and know what she needed to do to win. She had Kaiba down to the last 3 cards in his deck by using shit to keep his deck full and his graveyard empty, then using a card to switch the graveyards and decks of each of them. She also had some shit on Obelisk so if he attacked he would explode or something taking out Kaiba's lifepoints. SO IT WAS FORETOLD.

However, Marik's Millennium Rod reacted to Kaiba and showed him a vision of the past of Priest Seto using the Blue Eyes White Dragon. Kaiba then tells Ishizu that he makes his own destiny, sacrificing Obelisk and one other monster to summon the Blue Eyes White Dragon to defeat Ishizu.

So now we're going to the location of the semifinals and finals.

Everyone says a quick one-liner about this place, all you need to know is that it's a man-made island for the sole purpose of the finals for this tournament. So basically it's pointless as all hell.

Well, that's it for the quarterfinals, join me next time in Part 7: The Semifinals!

Tomorrow might break my chain of consecutive days with completed updates, I've got plans that basically span all day and night. However, if I find the time I'll look into that other GBA game someone mentioned earlier.
