Part 20: Dreams United (I)

Update 17: Dreams United (I)

Rallying the Town

Right, so that’s what’s going on … Sorry, but I don’t reckon I’ve got any tools here that could help Elvira …

Oh … I should’ve known it wouldn’t be that easy …

Well, when you think about it, this world is almost too convenient.

Yeah. Everyone here gets to do exactly what they want, without having to worry about time passing …

I think that’s great and all, and I can’t thank Elvira enough for everything. But, at the same time, I think it’s also kinda … out of whack.

What do you mean?

itt Pirka teaches her roommate about yin and yang

Everything about this world is too good. Which means, someone else must be dealing with all the bad for us.

And you think that’s … Elvira?

Who else?

… Then, we have to do something about it …!

Agreed. I’ll hit up my connections for some help. What’s your plan, Alette?

I want to help Elvira … I don’t know how helpful my dream will be, but still …

I see … Give it all you’ve got, Alette.

I will!

I see. As I predicted, Elvira is …

Plachta, you knew about this?!

No, I did not. I simply calculated the worst possible outcome based on the situation … If only I had any memories of my time here, I may have been able to prevent this … How could I forget something so important …

Plachta …

It’s not your fault. If you can’t remember, you can’t remember.

That’s right! For now, we must focus on what it is we can do!

Yes … Thank you. Now, our first step must be to locate Elvira. I do not know if she is in this world or another dimension … But wherever she is, we must find her.

Heheh. I see you’re back to your usual self again!

And that’s why you’re the mayor of Roytale.

This is no time for joking around. Someone needs to gather information from the townsfolk immediately.

Yes! Right away!

Boy, Gnome is just full of energy, isn’t he … Well then, good luck to you, Sophie. Please help Elvira.

Sophie, please do whatever is within your power …

Yeah, I got it! I’ll save Elvira, I promise!

Good. I have great faith in your abilities. Please take care.

… Slacking off again, I see.

Hey, if you want me to work hard, you’ve got to let me play hard. More importantly, that child who ate the sleepgrass … The flower you made did the trick.

They’re going to be okay?

Yep, and it was all thanks to you.

And to you, Kati.

… Mm, I guess so.

… I might as well come clean. Until not too long ago, I was thinking of returning to my world.

Y-You were?!

Mhm. You remember our conversation about my old job, right? That got me thinking about all the new discoveries I was missing out on over there, and …
… Well, going back was looking like a distinct possibility.

… You really were considering it, huh. I had no idea.

Ahaha … But you see, the people here are always coming and going. Everyone leaves eventually. All the more reason why this world needs someone who knows it inside and out. After all, it’s only a matter of time before there’s another incident like the last one. So … I’ve made up my mind.

R-Really?! Sure, you’re probably right about people here needing an archivist, but …

Hehe, don’t worry, Sophie. I’m not forcing myself to stay. I’m doing what I love best in a world that I adore. And if anything does go wrong, I can be there with my records, ready to find a solution. If that’s not worth sticking around for, then what is?

… That’s really admirable. I think I’ve figured out why Elvira called you over to Roytale, Kati. You’re an integral part of this world.

Oh, please. You’re making me blush. All I want is to spend the rest of my life somewhere peaceful, only doing the things I like.

Everyone’s Wishes

… Perhaps we can.

Huh?! Ya mean ya thought of somethin’?!

It is simple. Do you recall how the monsters were possessed by the Groll?

Monsters? Like the Zmei?

Indeed. All such monsters are brought forth in this world from dream visions. I suspect the true cause of Elvira’s frenzy is that she is a being closer to that of a dream vision than a human. Therefore, it may be possible to separate the Groll from Elvira, akin to our cleansing of the Zmei.

Are you sayin’ that …?!

Indeed … We must defeat Elvira in battle.

We’ve done it twice already and we know we’ll have to do it again, whether the party wants to or not.

Stifle your rage. I do not want it to come to that either. Which is why I am trying to think of another way.

Alright then …

Yet, if she is completely taken over … I cannot be certain what will happen … We must be prepared for such a possibility.

Hmph. Sorry, but I’m not preparin’ for anythin’ like that. And I don’t wanna make any of the others have to either …

Exactly. That is why if it comes to that, we must …

Sheesh … We gotta be the bad guys, huh? I guess we better pray that never happens.

Indeed.

I mean hey, transferring one’s own soul into a book is already kiiiinda, sorta, dabbling in territory ordinary humans have no place in, right? And same with transferring that soul from a book into a doll and then making that doll body human again?

So who’s to say the power of alchemy can’t make an item to save a goddess?

There’s only one thing I can do …! Yeah …!
We’re obliged to make the impossible possible.

Huh?! What is it?!

Plachta! Ramizel!

What’s wrong, Sophie? … Why are you in such a rush?

Sophie, I believe I already told you that is impossible.

I don’t care!

I can’t just give up. Alchemy has helped me time and time again … I want to believe in my power. The power I learned from my grandma and fostered with Plachta … Because my dream is to make everyone happy using alchemy! So, please! Help me do this!

Sophie …

Yeah … We forgot one of the most important things … Mistakes are a part of alchemy. You can’t know if you’ll succeed, but that’s why you have to try.

Ramizel …
Yes … You are both correct. It is not in an alchemist’s nature to give up so easily.

Thank you both, so much!

Hehehe. Now that that’s decided, we need to come up with a recipe!

Hm? Who could that be?

Oh, Alette? What is it?

Uh … Err … Sophie, do you think you could make use of this?

The one Alette picked up after the Aura 101 mini-boss fight all the way back in Part 4.

Yep … It’d be worth a fortune back home. That’s why I’ve treasured it for so long … So this coin is filled to the brim with my dreams … my hopes. Since Elvira is the goddess of dreams, I thought maybe it could come in handy somehow …

Alette …

Thank you. I’ll take good care of it.

Thanks, I’m counting on you!

The townsfolk were far calmer than expected, which is most likely thanks to our mayor.

So, what’s got y’all standing around ‘ere? Did you come up with somethin’ good?

Not yet, but we have an idea of where to start …

So that means you’ve given away that fancy coin. Explains why you’re lookin’ a little teary.

Oh, shut it! And stop staring at me!

But, there is something to Alette’s thinking … If we are to create a tool that will work on Elvira, conventional materials will not do …

Well, in that case, you can have this, too!

No, I cannot accept this! This charm was given to you by your little sister, was it not?!

Psh! Elvira’s been real good to me. ‘Sides, my family’d be real mad at me if they found out I refused to help.

… Very well. I appreciate your kind offer. That being said, I will be sure to return it if we do not make use of it!

Yeah, I know ya will.

And I shall offer you this …

Zmei haunted my past. I took this to ensure I do not forget my regret, nor what happened to me in this world.

Are you sure? If we use it in alchemy, it’ll disappear forever …

It shall never be lost. For it shall remain in my heart, always.

I see … Well then, I’ll gladly accept it.

Please make fine use of it.

(Ah, I remember now … )
(During the drought, it was not just Luard and I who worked to save the town … )
(All of the townspeople came together to get through it … )

Well, I think Plachta’s finally had that epiphany she’s been waiting on ever since the midgame point.

I’ve went above and beyond the first condition already. As for the second:

I just need to max out Fire for this Philosopher’s Stones synthesis–that’s a threshold of 22 Fire. Nothing else–not traits nor the other effects–matters for this synthesis as the product will be going straight into the Wiegentraum. Last up is a rematch with the Silverius at the Pockmarked Cliff.

Silverius round 2

That’s the Flame of the End working as intended and just utterly eviscerating the boss’ aura.

The Ennui Mirror wasn’t even needed to shave off any aura this time around, but more debuffs can’t hurt when the boss has 91k HP to burn through.

This time around, everyone’s new accessories and Synergy Talismans are really helping lay the hurt on the lizard.

So, this here skill of Alette’s does Wind physical damage, it scales off her very high speed stat, and last update she got an accessory that adds 30% of her speed to her attack. Furthermore, Silverius has an innate Wind weakness and two stacks of Frostbite have given him a significant weakness to physical attacks.

She rolls into him in a great green blur…

…before giving him a nice, hard kick and falling back.

Even without her final weapon, the Eaglescope is scaling Ramizel’s DPS to terrifying levels. It certainly helps for this fight that after another round of Pure White Corrosion debuffs, Silverius is weak as can be to physical attacks and has two stacks of Fire weakness.

And that’s how this match ended, without Silverius even getting a single attack in. Now, back to town.

Everyone’s Dreams (II)

Indeed … I suppose we have been rather busy since we agreed to help with finding the mayor’s soul.

That’s right … Things started to get busy from that point. And now with the Dream Cores and the Groll, there’s a lot of work to be done to help Elvira.

You know, I came to this world because I was told it’d help me realize my dreams. I never would’ve imagined I’d end up lending an honest-to-goodness goddess a hand.

Haha! You can say that again.

But, it’s not like I’m unhappy about it, or feel like I got a raw deal. I mean, saving Elvira and Erde Wiege would make us heroes, right?

Haha! Saviors, huh … I like the sound of that. But, you know, no one’s gonna believe a word if it when you go back home.

It’ll be fine, so long as I have you guys to back me up.

Alette … That will not be possible. When we leave here, we’ll be returned to our respective eras.

Oh … right … When we go back, that’ll be it …

Eh, that’s not worth worrying about now.

very good timing for Anytime, Anywhere to start playing

Ahaha, true … I guess it’s a bit too soon to talk about becoming heroes, or going home. Besides, if I think about it, I don’t know that being hailed as a hero would suit me all that well.

You’d probably be happier with something like “World’s Best Merchant,” right?

Yes! That! A million times that!

Haha! Sales over being a hero, huh …? What’s your take, Diebold?

Hm, that is keeping with her style. I prefer to serve as a guardian of this world, myself. Alchemists, bodyguards, and merchants banding together to save this world and its goddess …

Yeah … Same here. There’s not a chance I’ll ever forget about this.

How could any of us? Think of all the special memories we’ve created together …

We’ve definitely gotta win this, together. So I can always look back on this moment with a smile.

Before we can get to the Wiegentraum synthesis…

Hey, um … Ya got a minute, Sophie?

Oh, great … Were you able to see your world?

Yeah … Well, nobody was movin’ or anythin’.

Time flows differently there than here, so that makes sense.

Right … Well, I guess I should be thankful, ‘cause I could tell they’re doin’ alright.

You looked at your family?

Yeah. I mean, ain’t that why you made it?

… Did you see your sister? The one who’s like me?

It’s weird how fast girls grow up. She’s not a little kid anymore … And they don’t look as poor as I remember, either. I mean, I reckon they’re doin’ just a bit better than before.

But, it’s good that everyone looks well, right?

Yup! But, my family is just way too big. They’ve gotta still be havin’ trouble gettin’ by.

Huh?! You mean it?!

It’s my job as the oldest to take care of ‘em. Tch. They’re hopeless without me. Course they’ll probably get angry at me since I didn’t go back for so long. Still, I wanna go live with ‘em again. I wanna say sorry for takin’ so long to come home, and start supportin’ ‘em as part of the family.
I guess I’ve figured out my dream …

It sounds so mundane, and at the same time, it’s a real come to jesus (or to Elvira?) moment for this prodigal son.

That sounds like a great dream.

Heheh. That ain’t a surprise, since it’s my dream, after all. Everythin’ I do is great! … Course, I can’t go back right now. I need to get ready before doin’ somethin’ that big.

Even so, I’m just happy to hear that you’ve decided to see your family again.

… It’s all thanks to you, kid. Ya made that crystal ball thingy and helped me check in on my family …

Alright, Olias is the first of our party members whose subplot has been completed. What this means is that the Dual Trigger gauge now goes up to 120%, and will go up to 140%, 160%, 180% and 200% as the rest of the party’s subplots wrap up too over the course of the following update.

Even if the gauge can now go over 100%, only values up to 100% are carried over to the next battle. So if your gauge is way up there, use it or lose it.

Oh, welcome! I’m over here!

Oh, goody. I have something I want you to make for me.

Sure is! I know he turned them down, but, well, I can’t imagine them being used by anyone else. So could you make them for him? Pretty please? I dunno if he’ll take them, but …

I don’t mind, but can I ask you why you want him to have them so badly?

And wherever he went, he helped those in need, because he had devoted his life to saving others.
… Or so the tale goes. This knight lived long, long ago, well before I was even born.

Wait, the first part of that story sounds really familiar …

:tviv:

Ahaha … Yeah. When I think of this legend, it makes me feel like I can do anything. That’s why I wanna help him. I wanna repay my hero for all he’s done.

I hear you loud and clear, Pirka. I’m gonna make the best swords ever, just you watch!

Alright. Thanks a million, Sophie.

“Never meet your heroes” my ass. And since this is Diebold’s final weapon and the swords of Pirka’s fairytale hero, I most certainly will be synthesizing it to the best of my ability.

…Next update.

Yes, with this …

… We can save Ellie!

However, the materials required in order to make such a thing …

Don’t worry, Plachta!

A 7x7 grid with component overlap does plenty of work for me and it helps that the Dragon Bloodstone needed for that unit of Philosopher’s Stones has like three Fire components that are pretty close to being 3x3!

I also have these …

The items from Alette, Olias, and Diebold …

I’ll bind their wishes with the Philosopher’s Stones. And, I’ll need you to do the rest, Plachta.

Me?!

Good idea. I mean, I’m not skilled enough to do it … So, it would be best to leave it to Plachta.

Huh …?! You noticed?

It was pretty obvious! You look so much more full of life than before! It’s written all over your face, you know?

Congratulations, Plachta. I’m so happy for you!

Well, I … Thank you.

So, if you combine your wish with everyone else’s, then maybe … No, not maybe. I know you’ll definitely succeed!

We’re counting on you.

You’ve got this, Plachta!

Just chuck everything in, and…

Great job, Plachta!

You two are amazing! We can save Ellie now!

No, not yet …

Me …?

This tool cannot be used by just anybody. An even stronger wish is necessary to activate it.

I think out of everyone … you have the strongest wish to save Elvira. Can you do this for us?

Who could resist faces like that?

Hahh … You two are evil. When you put it like that, how am I meant to say no? Leave it to me. We’re gonna save Ellie!

“Yeah!” “Yes!”

Next, Elvira’s location. We might know how to save her, but we need to find her first …

Ah, excuse me … Although, it appears I arrived at the perfect time.

We found Elvira.

Really?!

Yes. She is located beyond the desert … behind the invisible barrier. We have confirmed that the barrier is now gone, and that we can travel beyond it.

Wow, you figured out so much … But how did you …

Hehe … I shall be happy to show you. Could the three of you come outside a moment?

Oh, I thought you would already be aware of the fact … That you are not the only ones who wish to save Elvira. What’s more, this world is full not only of people from various areas and times, but also of their tools.

Here, Sophie …

Ah, it was tricky to get a hold of. We asked all around town, and although people had heard of such a tool, we couldn’t find the real thing …

In the end, we went searching for it outside the town … I’m so glad we were able to find it.

So, this pendulum told us where Elvira is … Sophie, Plachta, Ramizel. We’re counting on you to save Elvira!

Thanks, Pirka! Thank you for your help, everyone!

Alright, of note–Plachta synthesizing the Wiegentraum unlocked the node for Alles Welt on Sophie’s recipe tree and counts as the first of four “synthesize something, ANYTHING”’s needed to unlock the recipe itself. And with that synthesis, four more nodes opened up on both Sophie and Plachta’s recipe trees: I can now start working towards getting the recipes for Sophie, Ramizel, Alette and Olias’ final weapons. For those, the general conditions are using Sophie and Ramizel’s Dual Trigger (and having the pair use Twin Actions five times); same with Ramizel and Diebold, and Plachta and Olias, and Olias and Alette. There’s more conditions specific to each of the four weapon recipes to meet as well.

Well, you can’t say the game didn’t warn you. If you have any outstanding character subplots, you will no longer be able to progress them the moment you enter the path to the final dungeon. For the record, we still have all this to knock off in the next update:
After all that, it’ll be time to go find Elvira!
