War in the East

by Grey Hunter

Part 59

The Finns crack the northern Russian line, and are threatening them there.

18th Army also makes some advances in their area.

16th Army however has a major breakthrough, and is now into undefended terrain.

There is little movement from 9th Army.

There is no movement at all from the other two armies.

6th Army eliminates two more Tank Corps.

Then push up a little more.

In the south, the Russians are reacting to my push east, and weaken their line, this allows me to encircle a number of units and take Voroshilovsk without a fight.

I then eliminate the pocket, this runs to about thirty five thousand men.

I rescue the 8th and drive back a large number of Russian troops – the marshland around the Volga make it impossible to encircle.

I then expand my bridgehead to the east of Stalingrad.

I push a number of my Panzer Divisions into a thin gap, trying to cut off the Russians below. With no rail line, I'm hoping to get at least some of them.

I finally continue to move north. This leaves Stalingrad with only a thin supply line – the rail line is cut, but not securely.

There is one attack, the cowardly Russians needing ten to one odds to win out.

The Russians in the north have abandoned a city, and look weak to 16th Armies sudden advance.

They are starting to pull troops out of the land west of Stalingrad. I will need to move quickly to capture all of these units I can.

I own half of Stalingrad, and the Russians have abandoned the other half – with the T-34 Factory!

Another 118,000 Russians killed or captured, but no more pockets this week.

The Russian Army continues to fall in size.

We are still pumping huge numbers of men into the front line units.

The fuel pool continues to hold above 10,000 tonnes.

There is something interesting on the production list.

Tigers are there, but no one wants them yet.

I creep slowly towards a decisive victory, but I am so far away.
