Introduction
What is a Man? Let's Play BioshockBackground:
Released to critical acclaim in the August of 2007, Bioshock is an action-adventure game. The developers themselves toted it as the spiritual successor to the System Shock series. While whether or not it lives up to that legacy is purely subjective, Bioshock is a superb game. The game follows the only survivor of a plane crash, Jack, and his trials in the underwater paradise of Rapture. Established by Andrew Ryan in the 1940's, Rapture was to be a Utopia. The city of Rapture is based heavily off of the works of Ayn Rand, the founder of Objectivism, and more importantly her novel, Atlas Shrugged. She proposed that a man was only worth anything if he was skillful at his job, however she applied that to white-collar jobs and the like. Blue-collar workers, such as manual laborers and janitors, were worth nothing to begin with. It was cold hard Capitalism cranked to 11 and it gained not a small amount of controversy because of that. But that's enough background for now, so let's move on.
I plan on showing off all Weapons and Plasmids. How well I show them off remains to be seen.
Please do not spoil any plot elements. Mechanics talk and the like is fine, just use tags for stuff we haven't seen, but I do not want to see this thread turning into a CIA document. Surprisingly enough not everyone has played this game.
I will be doing all research "off-camera". It is quite boring and the bonuses are all relatively the same.
You might be aware that a sequel of Bioshock was made and a third is in production. While the second game only shares the same setting, please don't talk about it as it contains spoilers that relate to this game. However the third game shares almost nothing in common and thus is free to talk about.

Characters:
- Jack - Our main character. The only survivor of the Apollo Air Flight DF-0301 crash.
- Atlas - A resident of Rapture. Working with Jack to rescue his family and escape the city.
- Andrew Ryan - The founder and leader of Rapture. His name is a fairly obvious anagram of Ayn Rand.
- Brigid Tenenbaum - One of Rapture's head scientists, as well as the creator of the Little Sisters.
- Frank Fontaine - A business man and criminal. Cornered the market on plasmids and ADAM, also led a smuggling ring for surface goods. Not a man to be taken lightly, though apparently he was been taken down by Ryan, the damage he instigated led to Rapture's ruin.
- Julie Langford - Rapture's resident botanist. Caretaker of the trees down in Arcadia.
- Yi Suchong - Another of Rapture's lead scientists. Created many of the plasmids in Rapture's market.
Little Sisters - Little girls that have had an ADAM slug implanted in their stomach. They carry a large needle and seek out "angels" in order to gather the ADAM they aren't using any more. Although they are nigh indestructible, they are no threat. The Big Daddies that guard them are a different matter.
Enemies:
Splicers - The main enemy type in Rapture. They are the former denizens of the once great city, though addiction and genetic manipulation has reduced most of them to raving lunatics. They come in several varieties, all based on the various plasmids and weapons they have chosen.
Big Daddies - The guardians of Rapture. Behemoths in diving suits that carry out the maintenance of Rapture and serve as the protectors of the Little Sisters. Only hostile to those who attack them or the Little Sisters. There are two types of Daddy, the Bouncer and the Rosie.
- J.S. Steinman - The Mad Doctor of the medical pavilion. Obsessed with creating beauty, just like Picasso.
- Peach Wilkins - The leader of a smuggling crew. Thought that Jack was working for Frank Fontaine, evil incarnate in his eyes.
The Saturnine Cult - A cult of Houdini splicers that control Arcadia. Very Pagan and ritualistic.
The Plastered - Spider Splicers covered in plaster. They hide amongst Cohen's "art", and act like figurines. Look away and they move closer. They also never make a noise.
- Sander Cohen - "A dyed-in-the-wool psychopath." One of the Great Artists of Rapture, he was crazy even before the Fall.
