Part 34: Last Waltz/Light Up The Night
To say it was the final boss fight, it did seem a tad odd that it had the same battle music as everything else didn't it? Eh, it was probably nothing.

Man, to say she's an old bat Marjoly is pretty childish...
?: Stop!

...This one was pretty obvious; there's a whole hallway full of the bloody things, but this one is gray for some reason. Maybe it's the one that he found a few years back?

Whilst this fight is entirely automated, it does actually tell you Marjoly's HP at this point (it's 465 if you're interested) since she's considered an "ally" unit. Kinda like Etoile only targetable. I don't think Marjoly can ever lose here but I wouldn't be surprised if her attacked weren't set to never miss and then she'd die or something. And then, considering some of the other fun stuff seen, the game would probably crash and maybe even delete your save.
...No, I'm not saying that can happen. Just that it wouldn't be surprising if it did.

Three guesses for how this ends, and the first two are practices.

Now you get the chance to save before the really-real final boss fight. Do it. Dear god, do it. There is nothing worse than dying here just to have to refight the quartet. Again. On the other hand, if you think you're underlevelled and such you can actually leave to grind.

Oh and if you need to heal, don't waste items or anything. Just talk to the Prince. I'm sure you've noticed the Marjoly statues at this point. They, uh...

The kicker here is that unlike the old dragon stuff outside these make you think they WILL heal you since the dialogue box beforehand says it actually blesses you.

Boy, this seems familiar doesn't it? The only real difference between this fight and the last time we fought it is that, uh, it might deal a bit more damage. Also the colour. This fight is basically a breather after the previous one; just... try to not take too much damage.

I guess we can add "sexist" to the list of reasons to hate Golonzo.

..I, uh, I think we just ended up fixing the damn thing for him. This might be bad. It is.

Okay, now THIS is the real final boss. And like any good final boss should it puts up a decent fight; I'd say it ties with the fight against Marjoly et al. in difficulty but there's two key differences between them; this fight is the only time I'll ever use Heart and that fight is the only one that consistently gives me game overs still. This one has done it... once and that was the first time I played because I wasn't expecting it so I just blew my Kansha gauge in the previous fight and ended up getting slaughtered because I was an idiot.
Anyway, as for this fight... Weapon hits hard, has a bucketload of HP (and then some!) and, finally, you should really be prepared for a Mega Charm at any point. When that happened I very nearly started screaming because I didn't take my own advise like an idiot and never saved between fights. I legitimately expected to have to redo the Marjoly fight for like the 6th time this playthrough. Needless to say, the lack of in-battle revival is one of the biggest problems with this series of fights but after this it's all over at least and we can relax. Once you destroy the working parts, you're left with a broken machine and the final boss is bested at last.

With his only asset finally trashed (ignoring the fact that there's, again, an entire corridor filled with the things!), Golonzo tries to flee...

Crowdia, Gau and Myao teleport and grab him and Marjoly and leave the castle. Presumably, they decide to take a trip to hang out in the Netherworld for a while and become Overlords or some such nonsense.

I guess the whole "saving the world" thing is just something that coincided with the main goal. Like, yeah, we just stopped a tyrant before he ascended to power and took over the planet. Whatever, where's the Prince? That's why we're here after all.

And, with this done, Cornet... walks off?

Namely, killing Flare's mother and the guardian of WhiteSnow.

Maybe it's because I'm just a big sappy git but I unironically love this ending.
The End

Click here for the ending! (or here for the youtube version if you're into that kinda thing)
Sorry if I skipped through the text and such a bit too fast for ya; I have a screenshot version too that I'll quickly put up if wanted.
Next time: The Netherworld. You didn't think we'd skip the optional dungeon, did you?
