Introduction
(thank you SeriousSirrus)
Well, talk about a classic. Super Mario 64 was one of the two launch titles on the N64 (the other being Pilotwings 64), and it went on to be the best selling game on the N64 (according to wikipedia and no I'm not checking sources any further than this). It was absolutely revolutionary at the time, being Mario's first appearance in 3D, and one of the earliest 3D platformers that actually controlled incredibly well. Just about every other 3D platformer that followed borrowed some elements from Super Mario 64.
So we've all played it. Why let's play it, then?
Funny you should ask. As it was one of the very first games on its console, the controls are very simple. But for a few key parts, you can almost beat the game with nothing but the control stick and the A and B buttons. The gameplay is straight forward: collect stars. And frankly, if you know what you're doing, this game is very, very easy.
In fact, I'm going to tell you that this game is so easy that I can beat it with my feet. And when I say beat it I don't just mean take down Bowser, I am talking 120 stars. This is going to be a complete, skilled runthrough LP of Super Mario 64. The conditions under which I will play it are simple: only my feet may touch buttons. I can use my hand for hitting the z button, but only to tilt the controller up so that my foot can touch it. You'll see how this works when it comes up in a video.
You expect me to believe that?
Nope, not in the slightest. That's why I'm using a webcam to record my feet, and overlaying it over parts of the video. Now that I have recording hammered out, I'll probably overlay it over most of the video, since it saves me a lot of work. Hopefully it'll be proof enough that I'm doing it.
As for the times without feet-video, you'll just have to take it on faith that I'm not reaching down and grabbing the controller, but personally I think if I can beat the bullies in Lethal Lava Land with my feet, there's no reason to believe that I can't walk through the castle as easily as I can. I've beaten this game more than once with my feet, and by this point I'm just used to controlling the game like this.
Do you play any other games with your feet?
Nope, but I guess if you really wanted me to try I could give it a go. If you want to see me play another game with my feet make a post about it and maybe I'll make a bonus video. That said, I'll have to own the game already, and have the means to record it. (I can only do S-video quality for gamecube and N64 at the moment, for the record) But what the fuck, it could be fun.
Oh, and one last thing, regarding spoilers: this is Super Mario 64, there is no such thing as a spoiler. I don't want to see a single black bar in this thread, because Yoshi's on top of the castle, the final boss is Bowser, and the hardest star in the game is 100 coins in Rainbow Ride (thank you for the correction my old pal Stanly Coober). We've all played it, and for the 5 of us who haven't, saying the name Tall, Tall Mountain doesn't really ruin the experience, so don't worry about spoiling shit. I don't even care if you talk about specific stars.
As usual, I'll be doing this with my constant companions, Dazzling Addar and Brother Entropy. I'll probably bring in guests for some videos, but that's entirely up to me, so don't worry about it too much. The game can get a little repetitive, with 7 stars in every level, but compared to some games *coughdk64cough* it's honestly incredibly diverse, so we should be fine talking about the game and whatever else comes into our heads, and hopefully it'll still be entertaining.
But that's enough talk, let's get to the videos:
