Part 21: The Priest, The Demon, The Initiative

Last time, we visited Nirude only to see him get killed by Zorgia shortly thereafter. Speaking of Nirude, that "fight" doesn't become that much easier with the Legend Sword primarily because it's basically on a timer. It does become easier to get through however...



After that, we visited the Fairy Pond and got a weapon upgrade that didn't involve someone dying for once. It's amazing, I know.



Anyway, we've put off the next confrontation with Ronan for long enough. But there is one line of dialogue that's strangely easy to miss. Instead of heading into Sanctuary, head into the cemetary and Meia bitches at you. More specifically...



Inside the Sanctuary, we get exposition as per just about everything else involving Ronan.



: The statue of Melzas is hidden in the basement of this sanctuary. I can feel it even standing here!
: Oh? The gods have shown themselves to you, have they?
: Yes, Ronan. It was wonderful. They asked me to pray to their visage...
: Do you think me so dull as to believe you?



: You want me to take you to the statue I keep, not to worship it, but to destroy it. If you underestimate me, you are likely to be severely disappointed, children.
: Understood. Now get out of my way. And please don't try to prevent the inevitable...
: Arrogant girl! Beaumont has always known of the statue in my sanctuary.



: How would they react, I wonder, if you were to destroy the object of their fevered supplication? I'd wager their reaction to be much less favourable than you would hope, little ones...
: Be that as it may,... This is not over, Ronan. Not even close. I will prove to everyone that the statue is the source of the evil, and it WILL be destroyed.



It's pretty surprising to see that Ronan isn't a complete moron. He's probably right about how very few people would be glad to see their one remaining idol destroyed, like the rest. Not to mention he's more than aware that Melzas is evil and yet worships him anyway.



: We must strive to protect the rest of your friends before he strikes again. I will stay with Septimus. You must watch Jess. We'd better hurry, darkness will soon shroud the village! I'll meet you at your house tomorrow morning...

Nothing else to do, and keeping a close watch on the guy who Alundra lives with should be easy, so let's go see what he has to say about the matter.



: Always running around from one place to another. You deserve to relax for one night, my friend! What? ...Me? I...cannot sleep yet. I have much work to do...

You can't actually go to sleep without talking to him first, and that's the only thing available to do right now...
