Part 264: Jeronimo: Sally Forth - Turn 7
Sally Forth: Tactical Update 7Shooting Phase:
Shooting End Phase:
Lian Chias venerable Hussar fell, its head a smoking ruin of smoke and twisted metal. The turtle-like `Mech toppled forward, its balance as lost as its pilot. Trees snapped like matchsticks yet the thirty ton impact barely shook the soft loam floor of the valley. The soft soil was moist and slick with runoff from the high mountains. It seemed so at odds with the bedrock ridges jutting upwards like swords in some colossal armory, yet with the spring thaw each little valley would flood with rushing, glacial water. Only the hardiest trees with the deepest roots would withstand the torrential onslaught each spring, and yet each was perfectly adapted to it. Fast-growing, the smooth-barked native foliage could put on ten feet in the first year above ground and below. In youth, their flexible trunks would simply bend to the pressureit was only the elder trees, several feet around, that grew tough and sturdy enough to not bend to the rushing streams.
It was these elder trees, some centuries old, that the Hussar splintered as it fell.
This is not ideal, Wilberforce mumbled quietly. The Neurohelmet was still an alien weight on his shoulders but even with the distractions of combat. He toggled his comms, opening a direct line with Voronovs Atlas. We need to put one down, field commander. They will grow bold and vicious if we allow them an uncontested victory.
Voronovs reply was a non-committal sound, something between a grunt and a growl. When he said nothing, Wilberforce took that as cue enough to continue.
Suggest you assign three or four `Mechs to knock out the Kitthe Anklebiter. Its deadly, but comparatively fragile and slow moving. Another group of four `Mechs should pick a secondary target and focus on weakening or killing it, and the last should keep the pressure on theon the Seagull. Its too mobile to make committing all of our firepower against it worthwhile but anyone with a large enough weapons array should still have a good chance of knocking it out.
Voronov grunted again. I will consider this.
Mission Objective:
Defeat Clan Forces (0/10)
Or
Bypass Clan Forces (0/13)
I'm sorry for the map quality--LPix doesn't want to take the map this week, and my other go-to image host resizes it. I've been looking into solutions for over an hour, and the only one I've found so far has been to chop off the bottom of the map.
