NG+ Update 05: Knocking on Sheldar's Doors

Music: Waste Shaft

Not long after the Danger Room we encounter Dragon Quarter’s first D-Ratio Door.

We couldn’t open any of these during our initial playthrough…

…but our shiny new 1/256 ratio gives us access to all of them.

Beyond the door is a small rectangular chamber full of gold crates and these skeletal critters.

These little guys are SkullDiggers. Because they have skulls and wield shovels, geddit?

SkullDiggers are a very weak form of undead. They take huge damage from even basic physical attacks, but like other undead they will revive again and again as long as their host is alive.

Thankfully there are no shenanigans and the host itself is simply wandering around the same room as its underlings.

Lesser Karons are a bit more threatening, especially if you missed the Dragon Blade and/or didn’t bring much Party XP through into New Game+. They can act twice per turn and have access to Pre-Primus and the Death spell, which can be a very rude shock if you aren’t expecting it.

They’re no match for Nina’s Fireblast though.

Our reward for clearing the area is another questionably useful debuff skill for Nina. Not brilliant, but future D-Ratio areas will yield much better prizes.

The next D-Ratio door is located on the floor above, in the hallway where we fought our first De-Volve.

The room on the other side is swarming with Soldier Ants led by a giant Boss Ant.

Soldier Ants are a new enemy. They’re basically powered up Worker Ants who can buff each other’s defence with Protect.

They also get super mad and hulk out if you kill another Soldier Ant. They’ll start dealing double damage afterwards, so it’s best to kill them all at once if possible.

The Boss Ant is the same as the one we fought on our first playthrough. Dealing with it up close will stop it from nuking the party with Fireblast.

Our reward for clearing this area is G-Iceblast, a Lv. 2 Trap for Nina.

G-Iceblast is similar to Fragball, but trades in the chance to freeze an enemy for extra damage. If an enemy is weak to ice it can wind up dealing more damage than Mirage Blast.

There isn’t much left of the Waste Shaft after obtaining G-Iceblast, but leaving it does reward us with an SOL Scene.

:…the sky will return to the world.

:…but I do not think its time has come.

: Fools…doomed to their fate.

Hortensia’s prophecy was mentioned a couple of times at the end of the first playthrough. Neither Deamoned nor Hortensia herself seem to think it will be fulfilled any time soon, but Elyon seems more thoughtful - and judging by the fact that he ordered Nina’s creation, perhaps he decided to make it come true in a more immediate and literal sense.
