NG+ Update 14: Misanthropy

Music: The More We Dig

Last update ended on a rather heavy note, so let’s take a break and go back to the Fairy Colony for a bit.

All the new jobs we queued up have been built, so let’s go check them out.

First up is the Bank. Building this allows us to become a dirty capitalist robber baron that never has to worry about money ever again.

The Checking Account is like a standard bank account. Deposit some money, kill ten enemies, and you’ll earn 0.5% interest on whatever you paid in. That’s not a lot, but you can withdraw it whenever you want and if your base investment is high enough it’ll compound pretty nicely over time.

The Savings Account is like an ISA. You can’t withdraw the money you deposit there until you defeat either 100 or 500 enemies, but you’ll get money out of it equivalent to 1.1x or 2x your savings respectively.

Foreign currency lets you become a George Soros-style currency speculator. There are two types of foreign currency, Dals and Mils. The zenny value of both fluctuates over time, so the aim is to buy low and sell high. Buy 1 Mil when it’s worth 100 zenny and sell it when it’s worth 200 and bam, you’ve made a 100 zenny profit. You can make literally millions of zenny this way and it is undoubtedly the best method if you want to enrich yourself.

The Training Centre can be useful if you need to quickly train up a new hire. None of my explorer ants returned, so this is the perfect way to replace them.

The Daily is a local newspaper that earns the player money. It pays out more than the Cafeteria, but requires three ants with high levels in Taste, Smarts and HP in order to work best.

The Review Board is the last new job for us to examine. By completing certain tasks the player is granted certain rewards, from cash to Party XP to Skill Items. All of the rewards can be obtained elsewhere, so it’s not necessary, but most of the tasks are fairly simple, particularly on New Game+.

With that done there’s only one other job we haven’t seen, the Stockhouse. It’s not a particularly useful job, but the Music Room is even less useful so I’ll be replacing it anyway just to show it off.

With all the jobs researched it’s time to switch the laboratory over to researching items instead. This will periodically produce free items for us, including some pretty neat ones like Gold XPs and unique weapons.

The Skill shop is also completely finished. Slow is another worthless debuff, but Skullsplit is actually pretty damn good.

It has solid attack power for a Lv. 2 Skill, and its side effect - reducing an enemy’s AP - makes it a godsend against fast and powerful bosses like Rebuilt Bosch and the Regents.

Now that we’ve cleared out all the Skills we can change the shop’s function. Each character has their own equipment shop, but Nina’s has a unique weapon that I really want to acquire before we get too much further. Switching the shops takes time, so I’ll have to fight a number of battles before the stock updates.

Music: Industrial Sector

Anyway, let’s get back to the main playthrough.

After leaving the elevator we reach the room with all the Ranger corpses and get into a fight with Tantra.

Forcacion is as annoying as it ever was, but other than that the fight shouldn’t be too bad. Tantra’s attacks shouldn’t hit a NG+ party too hard and status-nulling gear turns his many status spells into timewasters.

Kill Tantra, pick up the card and move on.

The cutscene plays to show that he’s actually still alive, but this time we get something extra afterwards.

Music: Controllers of the World

The camera shifts, revealing that Cupid is talking to Elyon.

: Here, in this world of darkness…forever.
