Part 81: Fake Update #16 - The Dwarven Woods
Fake Update #16 - The Dwarven Woods
Here is a map of the Dwarven Woods...
And here is a map with labels
- Sisaya the Seer - She appeared in Chapter 20, this is where you REALLY find her.
- Shrine of Good and Evil / Sword of Chaos - I detailed what that was about in Fake Update #4 - A Tour of Glenborous
- Drizzit's Corpse - I showed this off in Fake Update #6 - A Tour of the Battlefield. I might also have shown off the Overrun Ducal Army post and the destroyed cart there as well.
- Cart with Broken Wheel - This, along with the dead merchants and the Black Market Bandit cave were shown in the Fake Update: The Merchants' Guild Quest
The best way to enter the Dwarven Woods is to wait until you have the Dwarven Teleporter scroll (which is easy to get), then go south of the DBI.
There's a teleporter which takes you...
Here. A short walk northwest takes you to the teleporter. A short walk south-east takes you to the Wishing Well (see below).
I found this trapped chest with a Poison Cloud book in it somewhere in the area. It's not important.
The Sealed Cabin
In the woods, you can see this sealed cabin. There are no doors, but with Wizard's Sight...
Jackpot! But how to get in?
Just east of the house, within sight, in fact, is this suspicious hollow tree.
That was easy, now to just take the treasure, and...
What?! What's that note say?
If I had done this as part of the narrative, Jeremiah would have read the note before touching the treasure and left without picking any of it up.
The Wishing Well
Southeast of the teleporters is the Wishing Well.
Darcey? Who... what is this?
It is I! The one who can grant you a single wish!
But you look like just a well to me... Oh wait... I get it. Are you an actual Wishing-Well?
I prefer the term miraculous-water-dispenser myself. I do give excellent water, you know, but people tend to ignore that part of my job. Anyway, yes, I'm a wishing well. Remember, one wish and nothing more besides my fine water, naturally. Choose wisely, mortal, you'll never get another chance.
Very well then, my wish is...
A moment, mortal! Nothing is without its price... How many gold pieces are you willing to cast into my depths? The more you give, the greater are the wonders I am able to perform!

Here's what you can get for your money:
-Drop in 2 Gold Pieces:
Darsk Ceulg gets angry and the wish is wasted.
Keep your gold pieces, lowly mortal. You are not worthy of my services.
Damn!
-Drop in 10 Gold Pieces:
Darsk Ceulg gets angry and the wish is wasted.
Keep your gold pieces, lowly mortal. You are not worthy of my services.
Damn!
-Drop in 100 Gold Pieces:
- "I wish to be healed completely!" (It gives you a Super Healing Potion)
- "I want to have an ally who can aid me in my battle with Orcs and other
enemies!" (Summons a Spider to help you)
- "I wish I had an enchanted sword!" (You get a hint about the Holy Weapons,
nothing more. This is a waste, really.)
- "I wish I had two more wishes!" (Darsk Ceulg gets angry and the wish is
wasted.)
-Drop in 1,000 Gold Pieces:
All options are available, except the healing potion, so no loss there.
- "I wish to be stronger!" (You get a 5 point bonus to Strength)
- "I wish to be more intelligent!" (You get a 5 point bonus to Intelligence)
- "I wish to be more agile!" (You get a 5 point bonus to Agility)
- "I want to have an ally who can aid me in my battle with Orcs and other
enemies!" (Summons a Skeletal Warrior to help you)
- "I wish I had an enchanted sword!" (You get a hint about the Holy Weapons,
nothing more. This is a waste, really)
- "I wish I had greater experience!" (You get enough experience to gain a
level!)
- "I wish I had a million gold pieces!" (Darsk Ceulg gets angry and the wish
is wasted.)
- "I wish I had two more wishes!" (Darsk Ceulg gets angry and the wish is
wasted.)
-Drop in 10,000 Gold Pieces:
This is the same as 1,000 Gold Pieces, except that when you wish for Strength/Intelligence/Agility, you get a 10 point boost to that attribute instead of 5. And if you wish for a summon, you get a stronger Scorpion instead of a skeleton. All other options are the same.
- "I wish to be stronger!" (You get a 10 point bonus to Strength)
- "I wish to be more intelligent!" (You get a 10 point bonus to
Intelligence)
- "I wish to be more agile!" (You get a 10 point bonus to Agility)
- "I want to have an ally who can aid me in my battle with Orcs and other
enemies!" (Summons a Scorpion to help you)
- "I wish I had an enchanted sword!" (You get a hint about the Holy Weapons,
nothing more. This is a waste, really)
- "I wish I had greater experience!" (You get enough experience to gain a
level! This is the same as the 1,000 gold piece wish.)
- "I wish I had a million gold pieces!" (Darsk Ceulg gets angry and the wish

I personally go for one of the stat raising wishes, but a free level gain
(relatively speaking) is hard to ignore. You might even get some use out of
the helper that is summoned before it's killed. The only ones I would
defiantly avoid are the one for the healing potion, (a cheap potion,
terrific...) the enchanted sword wish, (a waste of money) and of course the
ones that waste the wish. (obviously...)
Personally, I think that a free level-up is better than 10 free stat points, so this is what I asked for. However, I didn't do it now; I waited until I hit level 42, because you can't get much higher than that. I won't be visiting the well in the course of the narrative.
What the hell! Nothing ventured - nothing gained. I'll count a thousand gold pieces into your stygian depths!
Thank you. Now speak your with, mortal...
I wish I had greater experience!
You want to gain knowledge and experience, oh mortal? You have chosen your wish wisely indeed. I will gladly fulfill your wish, my friend!
Thank you.
Clicking on the well after getting your wish gives you this.
You've had your wish, mortal. Come back in three hundred years or in your next incarnation, whichever is the longer.
Hey! I thought you were supposed to be REALLY powerful. Only ONE wish? That's cheap. Don't you know that it's traditional to grant three wishes?
The Other Wishes
I wish to be healed completely! (100 Gold pieces only)
Your wish shall be fulfilled. You will find an elixir in your pocket. Use it when you're in great need of healing!
You get a Super Healing Potion. That's crap, especially since you can easily have a lot more HP than what the potion heals.
I want to have an ally who can aid me in my battle with Orcs and other enemies!
You want an ally to aid you in fighting your enemies? I will grant you your wish, mortal. I'm summoning a friendly soul to guard your back until death does your part (so to speak).
You get a Spider/Skeleton/Scorpion depending on whether you put in 100/1,000/10,000 gold. You could probably keep it alive for a long time if you used Restoration and micromanaged it, but compared to the other options, I wouldn't bother with a summon.
I wish I had an enchanted sword!
Ahh, you have a taste for powerful magic artefacts, do you? Your hunger shall be appeased! Go to the Cursed Abbey. In the cellar, you'll find a book that tells of three long-forgotten holy weapons.
(This is a rip-off.)
I wish to be stronger/more intelligent/more agile!
You seek to improve on what nature and life have already bestowed upon you? Very well, your wish is fulfilled mortal!
For 1,000/10,000 gold, you get +5/+10 to your chosen attribute.
I wish I had a million gold pieces!
WHAT? I grant you a miracle and you know nothing better than wish for yellow metal? Get out of my sight mortal! Quick, before I lose my temper!
I wish I had two more wishes!
You want to trick me, mortal? I clearly said ONE wish, understood? Not two or more. ONE wish! By your action, you are shown unworthy of my gift. Go, mortal. I am sick of your presence!
