Episode XXXI: In Which We Get We Get the Goddess Ending

Verse 5: The Demon's Wings

Final Boss 2: Caim and Red vs. The Goddess

"..."
"..."
What the fuck am I looking at, dragon?
"I wish I could tell you, Caim."

"..."
Not that I can speak or anything... But words cannot express the feeling of "what the fuck" I am feeling at the moment...
"Would you like me to express it for you?"
No... No I don't think that would help... Let's just... Let's just kill this...thing...

Alright, time for the showdown with The Goddess. She is...actually kind of damn tough.

Her primary means of attack is launching a trio of Guile from Street Fighter-esque giant Sonic Boom attacks going horizontally and vertically. These are pretty tricky since they are semi-homing and since there is three of them, dodging too early will lead to avoiding the first couple of shots, but being punished by the third. The vertical ones are easy enough to avoid by just evade dashing left or right at the last moment. But, the horizontal ones demand Red be flying upward or downward pretty much as soon as the Goddess launches the attack.

She also does this while zooming around the area (and trust me, she zooms around the damn area a shit load.) To avoid these Red has to be either climbing upward or downward spamming the dash button while hitting dodge constantly. It's a bit hairy.

Why are there tentacles coming out from underneath her dress...? Were those always there...? Wait... I don't want to know.

Eventually, the Goddess will bust out her most assholish attack. If while attacking her she suddenly turns invincible, it's time to drop everything, fire every homing dragonfire to free up the shots, and get ready.

During this attack Furiae becomes invincible for the duration and summons twelve gigantic swords. Now, all of these swords are destroyable with a single shot. The trouble is that since Red doesn't level up to Level 3 evolution in this path, she only has six homing shots (Level 3 Evolution has nine.) Couple this with the flaky controls almost guaranteeing one of the shots will lock on to the Goddess herself, it's a bit of a scramble to knock all the swords out of the air before she launches her attack. What's her attack you ask? Well, after about six seconds of posing for the camera, Furiae fires all torpedoes straight at Caim and Red.

All torpedoes being each and every unscathed sword instantly fucking Caim and Red's shit up for an unavoidable attack. Just dicking around and letting all the swords hit Angelus will knock a good quarter off her life bar. Needless to say, that attack does not fuck around. Any and all magic attack build ups should be reserved for launching during this phase.

Hey! It's bad enough my sister turned into some unholy abomination. You don't need to call her a lesbian on top of it. Not cool, dragon. Not cool.
"I didn't mean to imply she wa-"
Not. Cool.

So...what do you call the opposite of a butterface...? Butterholyfuckwhatiswrongwitheverythingbelowtheneck, maybe?! It doesn't really roll off the tongue...

Several minutes of battling the Goddess later...

"..."
Well fuck... I never thought I'd be unhappy to kill something... I think this is a red letter day, dragon... Meh... Go drop me off where she fell...
"As you wish."

Verse 6: Goddesses

Well, at least the city stopped burning. That's something at least.

"Umm... Caim..."

"Caim!"

"Caim, not to interrupt your mourning but I think we have a problem..."
What is it drag-oh...
"..."

...Well fuck.

Drakengard!

I think these ending quotes are talking about the player.

"The Seeds never were and mankind remains... unforgiven."

:

Crimson lights the sky, the birds still asleep
Like a dream it shines, from heaven's safe keep
Children's songs we sung, as soft as the breeze
Endless fields, our home, I long for those days
I call out these prayers to the sky, heavy with thought, see your face
I carry these memories inside, thoughts of a soul colored by love
See me grow wings and fly high, passions will die down below
I burn in the basin of fire, watchers look on as they dance in their merciless sky
Watching me, watching you...
Silent black the dawn, and time tells its tale
Darkened blood, it flows, the forest receives
Look within the dark, as deep as you dare
There inside you find destruction you seek
I call out these prayers to the sky, heavy with thought, see your face
I carry these memories inside, thoughts of a soul colored by love
See me grow wings and fly high, passions will die down below
I burn the basin of fire, watchers look on as they dance in their merciless sky
Watching me, watching you...

Music -
This credits music contains the only vocal theme in the game. From what I gather, this ending was one of the first ones they came up with. Hell, just toss Manah dying horribly somewhere in there and I wouldn't be surprised if it was going to be the default ending. Strangely, the Goddess' final boss music is the only track that doesn't seem to be on the OST. It's similar to Inuart's battle theme in the previous update but less err...messy. See: the difference between Chapter 8 Ground Mission and Manah's boss theme.

Anyhow, this song gets remixed and carries over to Drakengard 2 as its ending theme. A version of it is also the main theme of the game and plays during a few key scenes (like Caim and Angelus' death scene.) It's also the final boss battle music against Legna. So, I included all that as well.
