I feel...

Different.....

GREAT SCOTT!

The diary of Troggadore Vaultson, Esq. Day 1:

This... this is incredible. It is as if a veil has been lifted from before my eyes, and the world has revealed itself to me in ways that I, in my previous state, could never have imagined. My senses have been lifted, and with them my awareness...

My awareness of...

Oh no.

Oh no. Those poor people. Modoc. Broken Hills. I remember now... I...

I'm a monster. I remember now, with a clarity that is as sickening as it is vivid. The men, the women...

The children.

Oh dear sweet FUCK, the children.

What can I do?

I need... I need to think about this. To think about life. The sudden burst of intellect that has been thrust upon me has brought with it a wave of responsibility that is crushing. I need to do something about this. I need.. in some way, to make amends.

The diary of Troggadore Vaultson, Esq. Day 2:

I have decided what to do. My actions in the past were monstrous, yes, but they were carried out in a state of mind that precluded rational thought... even if one could say that I was capable of rational thought before the last few days. I have decided that I must now devote my life to attempting to make amends for the horrors that I have wrought. I must seek out those require aid, and provide that aid to them, whatever the cost. Only this way may I perhaps earn some degree of absolution.

I began my search at the local Sheriff's office. He seems to me to be an upstanding man, of good character, who has due to the vagarities of fate been lain low. I was compelled, therefore, to aid him

However, as soon I offered to work on the side of justice, I was presented with a moral conundrum. Was it enough, I wondered, to work on the side of the law, when the law and justice were not necessarily the same thing? Would I be able to evict a sweet old widow, even if I were working within the letter of the law?

Troggadore: Redding Ranger.

I confronted the Widow Rooney, and saw, with shame, that merely sticking to the letter of the law would be a miscarriage of justice that I would not tolerate. Some, in this position, would have quit; choosing to eschew the responsibility of upholding the law while dealing with issues of justice. Others would have followed the letter of the law, absolving themselves of responsibility for their actions. I, however...

I found another way.

The next task I had to accomplish was a more straightforward one. A simple brawl needed to be broken up. Humble work, true, but that did not lessen the pride that I felt at being able to ensure the safety of the humble citizens of this town.

The situation having been defused, I was informed of my next task. A horrific crime, to be sure, and one that sickened me for reasons more personal that I care to admit. Violence, of this magnitude towards women... It horrifies me as much as my past actions of the same kind horrify me.

Banditry! The cowardly and evil preying on the lives and livelihoods of others. This, I can not stand. These men must be brought to justice.

Vermin.

More vermin. Frog's boys attempted to ambush me as I was approaching their hideout.

I showed them what for.

Having disposed of the last of their men, I noticed an elevator at the rear of the bandit's hideout. What could be down there? The spoils of their banditry? I decided to take a look before reporting back to the sheriff.

NIGHTMARES!

The creatures I discovered down there were the stuff of nightmares. Tough, scaly, and with row upon row of razor-sharp teeth. I immediately fled: these were not creatures of reason, and I was in danger of being overwhelmed.

I returned and reported my success to the sheriff. As for the remainder of the Morton family... let them come. Far better it be for me to be their target than those incapable of defending themselves. We said our goodbyes, and parted ways.

My next port of call was with the mayor of the town. It turns out that the creatures that I encountered are indeed very well known to the inhabitants of this town. It was then that I realised that I could be of benefit of this town simply by opening up an opportunity to improve their livelihoods.

Further dialogue with the owner of the local mine cemented my position. I could do much to aid in the livelihood of these people, but to do so, I would have to go back, and face the creatures that dwelled within the mine.

The diary of Troggadore Vaultson, Esq. Day 3:

I knew that as it stood, my chances of clearing the mine successfully were limited. I therefore resolved to prepare myself to the utmost. Finding objects upon my person that were capable of heightening my perceptions in the mine's darkened environment, and of forcing my body to perform beyond its peak, I slipped into a state of almost pure combatitive readiness and entered the mine.

Immediately upon my arrival, the creature attacked. Steeling myself, I struck for what I perceived to be its vital organs, and succeeded in slaying the beast.

Verily, my pugilistic exploits have allowed me to castigate others with increasing accuracy!

Additionally, my improved perception has allowed me to effectively target the weaknesses of my foes!

I finally succeeded in determining the position of the mining chip. The blood of the creatures that inhabit this mine was heavy on my bare fists, my Power Fist having run out of charge long before, but the prize was within my grasp!

Verily, my pugilistic exploits have allowed me to castigate others with increasing accuracy!

I continued deeper into the mines, fighting unearthly monster after unearthly monster. Finally, after what seemed an eternity of blood, pain, and death, my task was complete, and the final creature fell at my feet.

The mine is clear now. Hopefully, my efforts have aided the people of this simple hamlet, and will contribute towards the prosperity of all. I feel a degree of penance: perhaps this is the first day of a new life for me: a life devoted to the betterment of all. I left town that afternoon, and set out for a settlement known as the New California Republic. Perhaps there my good works may continue.

My journey was fraught with danger, but I prevailed. Whether gigantic insects or a new breed of creature, terrifying in appearance, I was able to defeat them all.

Verily, my pugilistic exploits have allowed me to castigate others with increasing accuracy!

I reached the NCR in good spirits.

This is now my chance to do good. I shall never fail to aid those who require it, for as long as I am of sound mind and sound bo...
