Part 13: Moo Goo Baigan
The Baron Key allows Cecil to unlock the door to the Weapons and Armor shop.
Buying two Thunder Claws for Yang makes the next part a lot easier.
With Yang's key Cecil is able to unlock the door to the Old Waterway, an underground area that will let them sneak into Baron.
Most of the enemies here are weak to Thunder, so Palom and Tellah tear them apart. Yang is able to one-shot almost anything down here as well.
The Gators are weak to Ice, and can hit pretty hard. Flood Worms use Tsunami, but it doesn't hurt the group too badly.
This area is filled with obnoxious hidden passages. The treasures they hide usually aren't worth the effort.
Electrofish absorb Thunder(der), but Yang can still hurt them by hitting them in the face. As we get closer to the castle, up on the first floor there's more of those Baron Soldiers we fought earlier.
There's a save point here, but there's something fishy as well...
The Ancient Sword is weaker than the Sword of Legend, but has a good chance of cursing an enemy (halving their attack and defense). It's not much use to us right this second though, as the dungeon is almost over.
Cecil's group emerges in Castle Baron's moat.
A staircase here gets them in the castle proper, but no one appears to be around...
It's worth noting that Cecil can get a quick nap in his bed, which counts as a free stay at an Inn.
Cecil finally finds another person near the throne room.
Baigan, you too...?
Is something the matter?
You serve Golbez as well?
Never! I am the captain of the Royal Guards. My loyalty lies with Baron.
Where is Cid? I heard he was confined in the castle.
I have been trying to find him as well. My men and I were attacked and I was the only one to survive.
I see. Then you must join us.
It would be an honor to join you.
Baigan then joins our party. The group of six starts to head for the throne room, but they don't get far...
Something's wrong.
Yes. I sense danger.
What!? Like...a...monster?
Oh, give me a break.
Sir, no disrespect, but that acting of yours is about as subtle as a crutch.
Baigan! You'd also betray Baron!?
Golbez's wishes are Baron's wishes. He has granted me a wonderful power. Observe!
Baigan can be tricky if you're not careful. Palom should hit the body with a Bluffed Bio, and Tellah should blast the arms off. Yang and Cecil should focus on the body. Baigan will usually cast Reflect on himself after he's hit with magic, so you need to be careful not to bounce a spell back in your face.
His arms can hit with several status effects like Paralyze and Sap, and he loves to cast Haste on them as well. The arms can be destroyed but will regenerate fairly quickly. If you kill Baigan while his arms are still alive they can Self-Destruct, likely killing anyone in the back row. It's a tough battle for someone still learning the (relatively) new Active Time system.
Even Baigan, who seemed so loyal...
Cecil can loot the treasury now that the guards are gone from much earlier.
Unicorn Horns remove Sleep, Paralysis, Confusion, and Berserk from the whole party. They're very, very helpful.
He can't reach this part of the castle for some reason. Maybe later on he or someone else will know how to deal with this barrier...
Cecil goes to confront the King to end this madness.
Thank you.
I see you have become a Paladin. Paladins are of no worth. A Dark Knight would be more useful to us.
Your Majesty...?
Your who? Oh, you must mean the old man who refused to surrender this kingdom. Hahaha, I must say I've enjoyed impersonating him.
What have you done with the King!?
You'll join him soon enough. Give my regards to Scarmiglione when you join him in Hell. That weakling never deserved to be one of the four Elemental Lords. We are much more powerful than him.
Then you are...!?
I am the Lord of Water, Cagnazzo!
Cagnazzo is a... lot easier than Scarmiglione actually. He hits hard, but every so often...
...he'll summon up water around himself. If you do nothing he'll hit you with Tsunamis repeatedly.
Unfortunately for Cagnazzo, he's weak to Thunder. Tellah blasts him with Thundaga and Palom Bluffs a Thundara at him for about three-quarters of his health.
Thunder attacks stop his Tsunami move, as well.
He tries to defend himself and heal himself up when he's near death. But he can't withstand the voltage Yang's Thunder Claws put out.
Someone's gonna get a complimentary face-beating after locking me up in that sty! ...Eh?
Cecil? You're alive! You had me worried!
I'm sorry...
Where's Rosa!? She went after you, convinced you were still alive.
Golbez has her...
What!? How could you let that happen? First my airship, now Rosa!
And she's still in trouble, so stop jabbering and take us to your airship!
Tellah appears to be transferring his anguish of losing Anna to Rosa, a girl he's never met. Either that or he just can't stand Cid.
Who's this snippy octogenarian?
I could say the same to you!
What!? I'm half your age at least!
Please! This is not the time. Sir, this is the great Sage Tellah. This is Master Yang, the High Monk of Fabul. I am Porom, an apprentice Mage from Mysidia.
Great, now we'll have another geezer on board.
Palom does have a point. It's nice to have some manly men in an RPG party, not a bunch of angsty teenagers.
That repulsive brat is my twin brother, Palom.
What a brown noser!
Pleased to meet you.
Well, you sure are a mannerly fellow.
Cid, where is your new airship?
Heh heh. Where nobody would expect.
We must hurry! Rosa's life is in jeopardy!
I know, I know! You don't have to shout, we're not deaf like you. Everyone follow me!
I love that line.
Meanwhile...
Sire, regarding the last Crystal...
I know. That place remains a problem.
Then, by all means, let's have Cecil get it for us.
Hmm...
I'm certain he will comply. After all, we have Rosa. We can exchange her for the last Crystal.
A primitive idea, but it just might work. And I will destroy him at the time of the exchange.
I shall go convey your terms to him.
Rosa, you'll soon see I am superior to Cecil.
What Kain and Golbez don't know is that Cecil and his friends have just run into a bigger problem than either of them...
