Lesson One: Stats and Weapon mastery

One of the appeals of Fire Emblem is that it never lies on damage. Regular attacks don't deviate from damage unlike most other Strategy RPGs and the relatively low stats makes it easy to eye-ball calculations.

The stats in the-upper right are calculated off a combination of the seven stats on the left and the weapon equipped.

Atk: Str/Mag+Weapon attack power (Might)+ Weapon rank

Weapon Rank: Rank serves three purposes. The first is the ability to wield higher tier weapons. At A-rank Swords, Robin can wield almost any Sword in the game unless they're character-locked. However, Robin only has E-rank for Axes and Lances, preventing him from wielding higher-tier weapons like a Silver Lance. If a character doesn't have a weapon rank at all, they cannot wield that weapon.

The 2nd purpose is gaining additional stats at C and higher ranks. Weapon rank is increased by repeatedly using the same weapon (1 use= 1 WEXP. 30 times to D, 40 more times C, 50 more times to B, 60 more times to A).

The third purpose involves the Weapon triangle which will be in the next lesson.

So plug in Robin's stats: 37 + 3 (for the Bronze Sword) + 3 (for A weapon rank Swords)=43 Atk

As you can see, equipping the Lance and Axe gives a different Atk despite the lance having the same Might and the axe having 1 more Might.

Hit: Weapon's Hit Rate+[(Skill x 3 + Luck) / 2]+Weapon Rank bonus

To calculate: 100 (Bronze Sword)+53 total+Sword Weapon rank bonus (Swords give none)=153

Crit: Weapon's Critical+(Skill/2)

Critical attacks do triple the amount of the final original damage (Meaning if you deal 0 damage after calculating everything, you still do 0).

Avoid: (Speed x 3 + Luck) / 2

Avoid is what Hit goes up against when determining if an attack hits or not.

To calculate: 29x3=87+22 luck=109. Divide by 2 equals 54.5, which the game rounds down to 54.

The most important stat: Speed

Speed not only determines your Avoid, but also how many times a character attacks per fight.

To Double an enemy: 5 or more Spd than the enemy character
Attack only once: Ranging from 4 more to 4 less Spd than the enemy character
To be doubled by an enemy: Having 5 or more Spd lower than the enemy character

Robin's current Spd is 29. He can attack twice on any enemy with 24 or lower Spd (see above). He can only attack once on enemies with Spd ranging from 33 to 25. He will be attacked twice by enemies with 34 Spd or higher.

Def/Res: Determines how much Atk is blocked after Weapon Triangle and Skill activations.

Luck: Reduces Critical rate equal to Luck.
