Part 41: Chapter 17a: Lenster's Gate - Part 2

Last time everyone died. It sucked. Let's make sure that doesn't happen again.

---

Today's sally is lead by Sleuf, Seram, Ronan, Shiva, Linoan, Asvel, Marty, Lara, Carion, Fergus, Nanna, Marita, Leaf, Makua, Olson. With any luck, they'll prove more competent then the last bunch.

First turn, Olson takes down the two nearby soldiers, and Karin manages to dodge a blast from More's Fenrir. I had thought he would prioritize warping the nearby Dark Mages over casting Fenrir, but no such luck. I have her move slightly out if its range next turn.

More warps a Dark Mage near us, but the flying zombie faces have no effect on Fergus, and when has a Javelin ever actually hit us?

We press on. None of the enemies can really even touch us without Cyas' Leadership stars. Imagine if we had competent leadership. Wouldn't that be something.

Okay, maybe they can touch us. Nanna gets knocked down to around 15hp, but nobody else manages to hurt us.

We clean out the area near effortlessly.

Sleuf heals Nanna from a distance with Psychic. Sure, he could have just walked, but y'know. Walking's hard.

Some pirate show up in the north west. They'll be headed towards the villages, although we have some time since they only move around two tiles at a time.

The villages are being overlooked by More and his still ridiculously overpowered Fenrir tome (18 mt and 80 hit, which is as powerful as the A rank elemental tomes), so we send Asvel to save them, who can take the hit without instantly dying.

Occasionally I think it's obvious I don't entirely have a plan. This is one of those occasions, after I send Karin back into range of More and the Peg. Knights after spending the last couple of turns waiting just outside his range.

[Karin: Lv. 4, Hp: 36, Str: 15, Mgc: 11, Skl: 11, Spd: 20, Luk: 20, Def: 11, Bld: 8] The game takes the opportunity to punish me for making this route non-canon by heaping the bounty of the RNG on Karin. She'll be getting lots of strength. Lots.

She's only in range of the closest Peg. rider, so she doesn't die. Instead, she just makes their formation look terrible. What kind of a V-formation is that? It's barely even a C .

One thing I love about Thracia 776 is that there is no shortage of Psychic staffs to pilfer. Really, I've said this a lot, but capturing is the best. If the enemy wants to screw you over, they're just opening up the possibility of you screwing them right back.

Alright, recruitment time

---

...Something you have to protect...?
It doesn't concern you. Now go... Our attack is starting.

Well, shit. That's not how things are supposed to go.

---

Recruiting Misha isn't as simple as talking to her. Instead, you first have to talk to her with Karin, then you have to put her to sleep, capture her, and not have released her when you finish the map. Seram puts her to sleep, at which point we can ignore her for the rest of the map. What do you mean, that's totally something you could have figured out on your own.

oh god where am I help me so blue

For whatever reason, NPC units don't have battle animations. Anyways, Karin kills nearly all of her countrywomen. Don't fuck with 14 year olds on flying horses. Practical life lessons from Fire Emblem.

---

Thanks old dude. Rescue has unlimited range, so it's fairly useful. Also one map just straight out tells you to go fuck yourself if you don't have Rescue. (This is our second.)

---

Karin keeps on killing the Peg. Riders. Fire Emblem is fun but tragic .

Elsewhere, we wait for turn 10. We're putting our A team in the very front: Marita, Marty, and Carion. They're being supported by Leaf and Nanna from afar, so they each have +20 to avoid and accuracy. In fact, Carion also has a support bonus from Leaf, so he gets +30 accuracy and avoid, enough to completely neutralize Cyas's stars.

Might as well. Marita officially now knows every sword skill, and is pretty much immortal. Also, if she procs Continue > Sol > Luna, she can pretty much use Aether, which is pretty cool.

Anyways, Karin takes another hit from Fenrir, kills the last Peg. Rider, and gets healed from afar by Sleuf.

---

This is arguably the most compelling reason to go down route A. A free Warp is nothing to laugh at.

---

This was his last charge of Fenrir, so we're safe now. Karin goes to visit the villages near her.

---

Ahahah, she knows. She realizes we're in Thracia 776.

---

Oh hey it's Cyas again. Fuck you Cyas.

How is the situation looking?
The enemy is fighting better than we expected, and I regret to say we are having trouble. But now with the genius Bishop Cyas at our side, we have nothing to fear!
Has Lord Rinehart's Gelpritter arrived yet?
He should break through the enemy's rear lines and join us shortly.
Good. Then let us commence our offense. Tell the Silesian mercenaries to prepare to attack.
Of course, Bishop Cyas!

Of course, attack! How did we not think of that? (Also, those mercenaries are already dead. Whoops.)

---

This was your idea Dorias. Listening to your advice was a mistake I'm not going to make again.

What? What do you mean!?
The young archbishop and genius tactician of Velthomer... Bishop Cyas is aiding the enemy. As long as he is against us, we have no hope of victory.

You may remember Aida as the fire mage with Alvis in Chapter 5 of FE4. The FE4 LP is almost there, and Cyas' heritage comes up again, so I'll go more in depth later.

...But if we retreat now, we'll lose so many of our troops... What should I do...?

Seeing as how the objective of the map is still seize, I say stay and fight. What could go wrong

---

Between our good stats, and two charismas, we manage to tip the odds in our favor, despite Cyas' 10 leadership stars. If you've forgotten, between Cyas' and Nicaraf's leadership stars, the enemies have +45 accuracy and avoid. To help you visualize that, here's what the enemies look like now.

This is what their stats would have to look like to give them their current hit and evade, assuming no Leadership stars.

Carion's having none of their bullshit. He's nullified enough their Leadership stars by Charisma and Support bonuses that the enemies have to deal with the fact they're mooks and he's Carion.

God damn it Cyas. Cyas is going to put people to sleep every turn until his sleep staff breaks. Luckily he goes after Marty, even asleep, Marty can't be captured.

(This replaces the current player phase BGM)

With some help from Lara, Linoan brings Marty back up to peak condition.

We clear out their front-line fairly easily.

[Fergus: Lv. 6, Hp: 39, Str: 20, Mgc: 5, Skl: 18, Spd: 16, Luk: 16, Def: 12, Bld: 12] Good!

[Carion: Lv. 6, Hp: 46, Str: 17, Mgc: 6, Skl: 20, Spd: 20, Luk: 16, Def: 15, Bld: 15] Worse!

Enemy Dark Mages are going to appear here for a while, and rewarp to near our forces. If you don't where in the hell a Dark Mage showed up from, they probably rewarped.

Marita, an Armorslayer, and enough sword skills to kill any enemy 70 times over takes down multiple Armors.

I despise you Cyas.

You're alright Linoan.

[Linoan: Lv. 12, Hp: 24, Str: 2, Mgc: 10, Skl: 11, Spd: 14, Luk: 16, Def: 3, Bld: 4] Damn it Linoan, don't make me look bad.

We keep on fighting.

---

Running to the queen in the face of war? Sigh...
Watch your tongue, soldier!
Y-Yes! I'm sorry!
But... Not having him here is indeed a problem...

---

Finally it's broken.

...and now he's poisoned On the bright side, poison overrides sleep (Linoan cures him anyways.)

All the remaining Armors have javelins, so they don't get themselves killed. They're also no longer much of a threat, because, c'mon. Javelins.

Apparently Nanna's horse needs to jump to heal. Odd.

[Marita: Lv. 4, Hp: 41, Str: 20, Mgc: 12, Skl: 20, Spd: 20, Luk: 20, Def: 14, Bld: 7]

Oh yeah right, there are pirates. Time to make some pirate ghosts

but hopefully not actually because pirate ghosts are fucking scary

Now, let's talk about Muler and his knights.

Muler himself is pretty tough, and gives his knights 3 leadership stars. Since Muler's knight are considered by the game to be under Muler's command, they only get bonuses from leadership stars from other units under Muler's command, i.e, Muler but not Cyas. So his mage knights only get 3 leadership stars, and the rest don't get 18, only 15.

Stat-wise his knights aren't great, but they make up for it by all having Tron. Tron has 18 mt and 20 crit, and is fairly accurate, so anyone without great magic will be torn to pieces. Even someone with great magic would be brought to death's door by a crit, so whoever fights them needs a scroll.

I think Karin's up to the task.

[Karin: Lv. 5, Hp: 37, Str: 16, Mgc: 11 (+7), Skl: 15, Spd: 20, Luk: 20, Def: 11, Bld: 8]

And we're done with those armors. Once we've dealt with the mage knights, the map's pretty much in the bag.

She gets an empty level here.

[Carion: Lv. 4, Hp: 47, Str: 18, Mgc: 6, Skl: 20, Spd: 20, Luk: 16, Def: 15, Bld: 15]

---

We finally meet Olwen's brother, Rinehart. Also oh crap Ishtar.

Yurius is not well! He is suffering from a very high fever...
He was never strong, but he seems to be getting worse lately... Have you told the Lopto bishops?
I won't let them go near him!
Not even Lord Manfroy!? Why not?

Really? No idea? None?

You know that reason more than anyone else, Lord Cyas... Please understand.
...Very well. I will try to be of some help. Where is Lord Yurius?
In my room in Conort...
I see... Well then, let's go, Queen Ishtar.

First time I've ever been happy to see Ishtar.

---

Anyways, Cyas is gone now, and his Leadership stars with him.

These guys are all that are left.

Muler happened to wander into our range. Bad idea.

Fear the wrath of the Gelpritter!

Terrifying.

Gah... How...could we lose...

[Asvel: Lv. 8, Hp: 35, Str: 1, Mgc: 16, Skl: 17, Spd: 20, Luk: 10, Def: 7, Bld: 7]

Karin finally stops missing and lets her Wrath do some work.

[Karin: Lv. 7, Hp: 38, Str: 17, Mgc: 15, Skl: 16, Spd: 20, Luk: 20, Def: 11, Bld: 8]

[Seram: Lv. 16, Hp: 30, Str: 0, Mgc: 15, Skl: 11, Spd: 15, Luk: 4, Def: 3, Bld: 4]

Since they took the bridges away when Cyas left, we have to go the long way to get to Nicarf (the long ballista overlooked way, might I add.) First, though, there were pirates.

Then there wasn't. We then split into two teams. Marita, Carion and Marty are on a roll, so they're going to go charge through ballista fire and take them out. Meanwhile, Karin's going to take down the Dark Mages on the cliffs, and visit the church. Break!

[Marita: Lv. 4, Hp: 41, Str: 20, Mgc: 12, Skl: 20, Spd: 20, Luk: 20, Def: 14, Bld: 7]

[Karin: Lv. 8, Hp: 39, Str: 18, Mgc: 11, Skl: 17, Spd: 20, Luk: 20, Def: 12, Bld: 8]

A bunch of Dark Mages who had accumulated without warping suddenly all rewarp to the cliff when More dies, which was either a coincidence or a really neat bit of programming on the part of Intsys (you'll see why soon.)

Meanwhile, Team Ballista is facing their next obstacle. Bolting. Both of the bishops are equipped with siege tomes, and aren't afraid to use them. They're also both have Tron, and are positioned so that you can't attack them without being in the boss's range, and vice-versa.

[Carion: Lv. 5, Hp: 48, Str: 19, Mgc: 6, Skl: 20, Spd: 20, Luk: 16, Def: 15, Bld: 16]

[Karin: Lv. 9, Hp: 40, Str: 19, Mgc: 12, Skl: 17, Spd: 20, Luk: 20, Def: 13, Bld: 8] 19 goddamn strength.

Eventually, both teams prevail. First, the church.

---

Oh, are you from the Liberation Army? Did she say something to you? Please forget it. She mumbles strange things from time to time. She can be an odd girl at times.
...I'll go...
Go? Go where?
...I'll go... I'll go with this person...
Go with... But this person is from the military. Sara? Wait, Sara!
I'll go... Please take me with you...

---

Sara is the same as she was in Route B, although she doesn't come with a free restore staff this time. This is also why I thought it was clever that all the Dark Mages rewarped to the cliff as soon as Karin killed More, they were going to defend Sara. Maybe.

Marty gets attacked by Bolting and Meteor, but doesn't end up any worse for wear.

On the enemy phase, the other Bishop kills itself on Marty Master Axe.

Master axes have shit hit, and Marty has shit skill and thrones are still a giant fuck you, so Marty isn't going to have much luck here.

Guh... You're...better...than I...thought...

That's better.

[Marita: Lv. 5, Hp: 42, Str: 20, Mgc: 12, Skl: 20, Spd: 20, Luk: 20, Def: 14, Bld: 7]

Olson captures Misha, and then we finish the map.

---

Count Gustav has been oppressing Lenster's people as the right hand man of King Blume. I can't imagine how many people have been ordered to their deaths...

There is no need for mercy, Lord Leaf. You must carry out your duties as the lord of Lenster!

August is still surprisingly hardcore.

I have no need for sympathy! If you're going to kill me, just do it!
It is fruitless, Lord Leaf. Silesian Pegasus Knights put honor above all. She wouldn't be able to bear living in captivity after leading her troops to their deaths.

Misha, you have something to protect, don't you? What are you going to do if you die here! What's going to happen to the children waiting for you in Ciledia!
! ...Where did you hear...
A member of your squad told me. I saw her wounded and tried to help her...Then she told me... ...I never knew. I never knew that so many people were suffering in places under Imperial control... So many children are just... starving to death. She told me that she became a mercenary to earn money to buy food with.

Karin, you killed all the Silesians. Do you mean to say she told you when she was begging for mercy?

......
You are wrong, Lady Misha. It is in no way forgivable to put other children in suffering to save your own. Child hunting has been going on in the Empire and Thracia. Silesia will not be an exception, either. Who will protect your children then?
Child hunting...? What are you talking about?
You don't know... In that case, you need to live and look at reality. I want you to understand our sorrow and suffering!
...I'm sorry. I...need to think this over...

Misha's somewhat of a hard sell. Her durability is terrible, and her luck is unacceptably low for someone who's defense is entirely based on dodging. While her growths are actually pretty good, her low bases mean she'll only be as good or worse then Karin at a similar level. She'd be a better unit if it weren't for Dean, who does a better job filling the flying role if Karin doesn't turn out then Misha does.
