Part 9: Mission #9: Hit or Miss

I think I'll update now, and then wait to give you guys and opportunity to send in some builds...

First things first, I've used two of your submissions:



A bit low on HP, I suppose, but very accurate.



My only concern is that using the Kasel arms might produce accuracy problems. My concern will be proven correct in record time.



I'm happy to let someone else choose Ryogo's wanzer, I just rebuilt it for now because the Orange Julius needed some parts from his Kyojun.

Chapter #9: Hit or Miss



: Oh, I haven't introduced myself. I'm Miho Shinjo. I've been waiting for you all.
: You were waiting for us?
: Um, yes.
: I told you I was popular with policewomen!
Didn't Ryogo just essentially call Miho retarded about five seconds ago?
: Hey Ryogo, stop joking around!
: Why were you waiting for us? Why were you trying to capture us?
: Oh, no, not at all... I know about the new bomb. The military is coming after me, too.
: ! You know MIDAS!?
: I was dispatched when the accident occurred. I saw the explosion site, and I heard an officer talking about MIDAS.
: And that's how you got involved...
: Yes. Then I heard about you all over the police radio.
: We're that famous?
: Yes. Kazuki Takemura and Ryogo Kusama are wanted nationwide for the bombing of the base.
Kazuki has the death sentence on twelve worlds!
: We're criminals now?
You know, even if we're being framed, we have, in reality, committed like a hundred felonies by this point. I mean, fuck, we've been criminals since Kazuki decided to attack an army base by himself, and that was in the second mission.
: I can't believe the military made you scapegoats.
: Kazuki, we're wanted nationwide! We're famous. Not in the way I wanted to be famous, but...
Hey, it's true, ladies love alleged terrorists.
: Be careful. This might be a trap.
: Are you on the run from the military?
: Yes. And, ah... I was wondering if I could come along...
: Why won't the police protect you?
: They're connected to the military. I... don't have anywhere else to go.
: Great. It's like the entire country is against us..
True. Then again, we are actively colluding against the Japanese government on behalf of another country.



: Liu?
: We shouldn't trust her so easily.
Oh, you're just upset because she's bumping you to the bench.
: She seems nice. A bit laid back.
: It's fine with me! Besides, she's a cutie!
: Um, I understand if you don't trust me... I'll be okay. Don't worry about me.
: You think this laid-back chick is a spy? There's no way!
: ...
: Um... Maybe she'll be useful to us. She knows how to ride a wanzer, and she has access to information.
: But...
: She's coming with us.
: Kazuki!?
: We can't leave her here.
: Okay, fine.
Liu isn't a very good spy. "Well, she might be an enemy agent that could get us all killed, but Kazuki really wants her to come...."
: Really!?
: But if you anything stupid, I won't guarantee your safety.
: That's fine!
: What do we do now?
: The freeway is under military control already.
: Let's get off the freeway and head to Numazu Harbor. I'll have them pick us up there.
: All right.



And away we go!



Our starting frontcourt takes the floor.



: Hurry aboard the ship! We're leaving immediately!
: OK, OK, let's go, Kazuki! If you're not careful, the enemy will get you.
: He never gets nervous...
: Kazuki, hurry up!
: Oh, all right.



More fucking helicopters? Well, if nothing else, at least Kazuki and his crew are stimulating the Japanese aeronautics industry.



And our landing craft gets sunk.

: Don't let them escape! They can't be allowed to leave this country!
It appears there's a problem with our exit visas...
: What! We're surrounded!
: An ambush... Damn, they're not gonna let us go without a fight.
: What are we going to do, Liu?
: With the ship gone, there's no way to escape!?
: We must find another escape route! But first we have to get out of this alive!
: Understood!



And our first wanzer selection screen. You can only choose 4 wanzers per mission, so someone is going to have to sit this one out. I pick Liu because he can't hit helicopters, and because I've already cannibalized his wanzer to build your wanzers.



Miho's wanzer. I really, really, really wanted to get a chance to fix this before the mission, but oh, well. You see, her default wanzer has a terrible secret, and I only hope that it doesn't come back to bite me during the mission.



Ryogo gets two Zoom Is in a row and comes so very close to killing a helicopter on his first turn...



The enemies for this battle are an APC, two choppers, and two of these guys. They're missile wanzers, through and through.



This map is kind of a problem. One of the Enyos is hiding in an alley, making it hard to get line of sight for most of my wanzers. Missiles, however, don't need line of sight, so I'm going to take a few hits before I can get to him.



But not that long, I make killing this asshole a priority and send Kazuki and Ryogo to take him down.



On the one hand, the Orange Julius is very accurate with the shotgun. On the other, it appears to be made of tissue paper.



Still, it works out, as the damaged Enyo makes a suicidal charge with his remaining fist. Kazuki puts him down.



Elsewhere, the curse of the Kyokei manifests. Hit or Miss is a truly terrible battle skill. It works on burst weapons by giving you a 50% chance of every bullet hitting...and a 50% chance of every bullet missing. Normally, characters have 80% accuracy with burst weapons, so, as a matter of statistics, you're losing about 30% of your expected damage whenever it goes off. But, even worse, watching your shotgun attack do nothing....I can't get rid of these arms soon enough.



Meanwhile, Alisa kills a helicopter.



Miho knock a guy down to almost no health. Can I force this Enyo to surrender without destroying it?



I can. And yes, I used a missile to do it. Why? No good reason I suppose, though it probably had something to do with the fact that she just missed with her last two missiles. Lotish! What have you saddled me with here? Also, destroying a part netted her an increase to her max AP.



I'll be damned, I still got a platinum medal for this mission. Then again, you guys have only picked half my team so far...



: Don't worry, we have friends coming!
: Friends...?



Eh, we've already seen the submarine. Does the DHZ have some sort of space shuttle? Now that'd be cool.
: Holy moly! That's the DHZ for you!
: This sub is what you mean?
: Let's get out of Japan before our pursuers arrive!
: OK! What a mess!!
