Part 47: Mission #44: War of Attrition

I didn't realize Lan was running a flamethrower and shield wanzer too. Switch the flamethrower and shield on mine to make me look less of a plagiarist.
Never! It's fine, don't worry about it. The designs are actually pretty different in terms of what parts they use.
Mission #44: War of Attrition
Out of the sewers and onto the streets!
: We let them pass!?
: Of course. There's a big difference between them and your forces.
: What is it?
: Your soldiers haven't been through real battles.
Front Mission 3! Even when the party's doing well, it's because we're facing rookies!
: Are you saying we can't win against them?
: That's right.
: Shut up! We won't be defeated by mercenaries! Just you watch!
: Fool. You can't even correctly assess what you are up against.
: The commander's confined in here, right? It's a little too quiet though, isn't it?
: Maybe they don't know we're here?
: I don't think so.
: Secure the factory. We'll save the commander later!
: I won't let a bunch of whelps get in the way of our goal!
This is my first attempt. I used Kazuki, Liu, Miho and Pham. I figured that since every enemy on this map had long-range weaponry, if I could get my wanzers in close, I'd be able to outlast them in a war of attrition.
This was the first bad omen, albeit, if you don't give a melee wanzer a shield, this'll happen a lot.
And that's the last of the enemies, as you can see, Kazuki is barely hanging on, and Miho isn't much better off. Liu's a bit better off, but he's out of grenades. Still, if the mission ended here, there'd be no problem...
: Useless.
: Imaginary Number...
: The mission's over. We're abandoning this base.
: What's the meaning of this!? Major Kuroi ordered us to defend this place with our lives.
: The orders have changed. You are no longer of any use to us.
Lukav betraying the JDF? What a world...
: Sir Lukav, it is done.
: Understood. Return immediately.
: What about Kazuki's group?
: Don't mind them. Now that Sasaki's useless, they'll have to do the job. Their immediate elimination would alter my plan.
The party are still pawns in Lukav's master plan. That is quite dispiriting.
: Understood.
That can't be good.
: Orders from Sir Lukav: abandon this place. Cover our retreat.
: Roger, we're commencing our attack.
And those last two Shunwangs are the straw that breaks the camel's back, and the party is too dinged up to defeat them. Let's try this again.
This time, I bring Ryogo, Kazuki, Miho and Mayer.
And I decide that Goto's giant missile tank should die first. After that, I'll take out the remaining wanzers.
It cannot be allowed to survive!
After that, it's time to move onto the rest of the enemies. There aren't many of them, but they all have stupidly high HP.
Just not high enough.
I also get a bit lucky. Initiative III means that Miho's counterattack will go before this enemy's attack...
And then Double Shot I triggers three times in a row...
And while the Chondgu 2 isn't a very strong shotgun, 6 shots of it in a row will destroy any normal enemy.
And Kazuki cleans house. Bring on the Shunwangs!
And here they come.
Thump. The Tiger Blood may not have performed well the first time through this mission, but he's making up for it here.
To keep a tradition going, Ryogo has managed to lose his machine gun arm...again.
Miho just barely hangs on. This battle needs to end soon.
And the last remaining enemy agrees, as, apparently moved by our courage, he surrenders.
Adequate. Miho gets MVP, likely because of my pro-shotgun bias.
: That was a lot of work.
: We're going to save the commander. Hurry!
Next Time: The Highway to Hell!
