Part 67: Mission #4: Suicide For Fun and Profit!
A quick update before the wanzer buildMission #4: Suicide For Fun and Profit!
Having found the chamber where MIDAS went off, but not having made any real effort to locate Alisa, it must be time to leave.
: The cargo lift is further in. We can get to the surface from there.
: We can finally get out!
And we've been made.
: Don't let 'em get away!
Now, that may seem like just another not particularly funny bit of comic relief, but I prefer to think of it as a homage to the Bhagavad Gita, where Krishna gave Arjuna a series of life lessons immediately prior to an epic battle.
: Emma, is the lift far!?
: It's over that room. We'll be okay once we're on the lift. Hurry!
: The gate is closed!
: Move up to the gate. There should be a switch.
: All right.
Battle conditions! Now, here's a logic puzzle for the thread. I win this mission if all of my wanzers on the map reach the elevator. I lose if all of my wanzers die. What is the best way to win this battle?
You get a bit of head start, as there's a closed door between you and the enemy wanzers, though they'll open it on their first turn.
The biggest problem is that Emma's wanzer has shit for movement. So, unless she's able to knock out the enemies by herself...
Impressive, in another battle, this might be doable.
But there goes her missile arm, so the chances of Emma making it to the elevator don't seem great.
Reinforcements. Hypothetically, that's a problem.
But Ryogo makes it to the elevator, Kazuki, with the Zenislev's top-flight legs, is already there, so in order to win this battle...
...Emma must die. Once she dies, Emma is removed from the map, meaning that all of our surviving wanzers are on the elevator, meaning the winning condition, meaning that I immediately win the map, even though that doesn't make much sense if you think about it. I mean, how the hell can we escape if Emma's wanzer has been trashed so far away from the elevator?
The game is displeased with my cunning.
: Destroy them!
And Emma's wanzer somehow rebuilt itself and managed to make it to the elevator before the JDF could catch it. Granted, I understand that there needs to be some separation between gameplay and the cutscenes, but I simply don't understand how this could have possibly happened.
: We'll get to the surface this time...
: I wouldn't relax until we actually leave the base.
