Part 11: Episode 11: Killing Tesla
We'll be taking out Tesla this time. It's also a good enough time to interview someone that happens to have a tidbit of info on Tesla. This enemy is called Tork.
Here is Tork. As far as numeric ranks, Tork enemies are just above Picasso (which is of course, above Goner). Torks have pretty high defense, and make a cool shattering sound when you kill them. Naturally, because they have high defense, they have the stereotypical deep voices (Michael Dorn-style).
Number Five - interviews - Tork
(General)
Number Five: "What Is: Perfect?"
Tork: "It's 'Kill or Be Killed'. Survival of the Fittest. Darwin would have loved it. Whatever you do, look at their rank before you attack. Otherwise, you'll be the one getting sent to the buffer."
Number Five: "Where Is: Perfect?"
Tork: "This is Perfect."
Number Five: "What Is: Perfect?" (Number 5's second time asking)
Tork: "Everything you see."
Number Five: "Where Is: Perfect?" (Number 5's second time asking)
Tork: "Here."
Number Five: "What Is: The Garden?"
Tork: "Everything."
Number Five: "Where Is: The Garden?"
Tork: "Everywhere."
Number Five: "What Is: The Garden?" (Number 5's second time asking)
Tork: "This is the Garden."
Number Five: "Where Is: The Garden?" (Number 5's second time asking)
Tork: "This is the Garden."
(Characters)
Number Five: "Who Is: Perfect 1?"
Tork: "The ultimate virtual warrior. He's never been defeated in combat, and he's been here since the beginning."
Number Five: "Where Is: Perfect 1?"
Tork: "The Spire."
Number Five: "Who is: Chameleon?"
Tork: "She that has no shape. She's fifth in the heirarchy. She wants to be perfect one, but she can't. She's not strong enough."
Number Five: "Where is: Chameleon?"
Tork: "The mansion in the east residential district. This is where she keeps all the rhythyms she's killed."
Number Five: "Who is: Chance?"
Tork: "Chance is the anti-Perfect. He's our only hope for getting out of here. His rank is 4th."
Number Five: "Where is: Chance?"
Tork: "He lives in the church. I'll take you there."
Number Five: "Who Is: Tesla?"
Tork: "You don't want to mess around with Tesla. He's the boss of the industrial district and he's ranked 10th. And, he holds the power of lightning."
Number Five: "Where Is: Tesla?"
Tork: "The power plant."
Tork seems to be a bit brainwashed by this Chance guy, but we won't concern ourselves with that yet.
Unlike Medusa, Tesla does show up in the DOASys. Let's talk him up!
It occurs to me that Tesla is the first of the DOASys interviews we have that isn't essentially a flat image. As you can see, they got a real live person to play him! The makeup and acting is pretty decently done, in my opinion. Great for a video game, at least.
These boss interviews broke the budget, appaerntly, because the number of conversation options are significantly reduced. This is true for most of the bosses. Tesla has the fewest. We can only ask four questions total!
Number Five - interviews - Tesla
(When we show up, Tesla says...)
Tesla: "You're new around here. Let's get a couple of things straight, right off. I'm the boss of the industrial district, and I intend to stay that way. If you know what's good for you, you'll remember that."
Number Five: "What Is: Perfect?"
Tesla: "There are only a couple things you need to know about Perfect. It's the most perfect manifestation of human technology ever achieved. And once you're in, you're in for keeps."
Number Five: "Where Is: Perfect?"
Tesla: "What kind of question is that? Where is Perfect? You trying to make me look stupid or somethin?"
Number Five: "Who Is: Perfect 1?"
Tesla: "He runs the show around here."
Number Five: "Where Is: Perfect 1?"
Tesla: "To get to him, you gotta go through me."
No useful information here, but who doesn't enjoy getting talked down to?
Also, just to recap, the only other information available on Tesla was from Goner:
Goner: He is 10th in the heirarchy.
Goner: The power plant. In the industrial district up north.
Tesla is probably bad some reason! Let's get him! Grab your pitchforks!
Let's take him down. I'll drive the Immercenary Safari bus up to his lair!
We are now at the northwest corner of the map. The battle will be another quick one.
To watch a video of a Tesla battle, go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBLl6qdADKM
There's stuff floating around in his lair, and it's more annoying than it should be. All of this obstructs your movement as well as your shots.
Take this angle, for example. I dare not shoot Hex at this time because I'll most likely hit one of the obstructing boards.
Just 1 or 2 Hex shots is enough to kill him though. Here's a segment of his flashy dying animation.
His lair crumbles under the sound of crackling fireworks. I'd just noticed that my HUD is still on top of videos like these. Neat touch.
Tesla's lair has disappeared from the map. Up in the northwest, we're now, sitting on empty ground. The music is also gone, which I noticed since the music up here is the only music I really as being catchy.
Check-up back at the lab! (Lab visit #7)
Our visit back at the lab takes all of 5 seconds, so I don't feel obligated to post it in video format. In fact, many lab visits will be like this.
Gal: "D. O. and A. levels all at 50 percent!"
Note: Earlier I'd said 255 was the maximum, but it looks like it's actually 128! I'll fix this up.
Looks like we're halfway to maximum on the stats. Sweet. At this point it may be pretty easy to just to get our stats all the way to maximum. This is helped by the fact that we can increase our stats independently of rank. We can get stat boosts from whatever we feel that we can kill. While in transit, I've been slaying droves of Goners and soaking up their meager increases.
I may resort to more stat grinding next time. I'm primarily interested in getting the lab videos back onto a topic of interest (there is some more story to come). I'm not realy sure how to trigger it, but hopefully killing Medusa or Tesla was part of it.
Next time: Probably more stat grinding?
