Introduction
Let's Play La-Mulana! Because it's just too much of a pain in the butt for most of you, and I've actually beaten it once.
La-Mulana is one of the best homebrew games, period. We're talking Cave Story level of quality in here. Released in 2006 (maybe 2005), written by three Japanese guys, this game is a giant homage to oldschool platformers, with heavy emphasis on Maze of Galious style gameplay.
The game is called a love-letter to the MSX computer system. I call it a massive circlejerk to the MSX computer system. I mean, I realize it was the bee's knees in Japan, but this game just can't stop saluting/praising/watching-while-asleep the MSX. More on that later.
The story is covered briefly in the manual, but here's a short summary:
You're an Indiana Jones wannabe. Your no-show father is also an Indiana Jones wannabe, and better at it than you. He's discovered the ancient ruins of La-Mulana, and he's going to find the hidden Treasure of La-Mulana before you. Your mission is to go into the ruins and find it before he does, because that's how you roll.
Enough exposition. Onward with the Video Let's Play!
