Yeah, you can cheat it a bit by signing out of your gamer profile thing if you waste a bunch of credits, but it's a bit of a pain in the arse and takes a while to do. It's not reaaallly worth the effort, considering you're just going to be unlocking all of the noms eventually anyway and, to be honest, no one weapon is going to make that much of a difference.
Other than the plasma rifle, maybe. Still not got that back, harumph

That's 'cause it's pretty MMO-y, actually! It's just a stupid, grindy, lazy way of having some sort of unlocking process for you to grind at for ages. Prize boxes are really satisfying to pick up, at least; it's not some stupid tiny piece of a scorpion that falls off if you whack it hard though. Although having said that I'd like a Peace Walker-style system where I can build my own VS by beating up other VSes and taking their parts for my own...

The mild frustration fades with time, definitely. I'd totally forgotten just how crap it was until very, very recently!
