Part 14
It takes your whole IP bar, so it's difficult to use it more than once per battle. It is fucking awesome though, I think that Aima shall remain a front row fighter for me, yessss. . .Glazius posted:
So when does the kung fu girl leave your party and/or seal up Energy Punch?
It just seems far too powerful.
Okay so let's go to Lidal Continent and. . .
wait hold on I'm getting a premonition, it's telling me to go to Albano.
truth, my husband couldn't sleep before then. He was finally able to sleep when he heard that Gades was gone. Thank you very much. This isn't very much, but it's a token of my appreciation.
3/8
I'm not completely sure how you're supposed to know about this, honestly. I think if you talk to her on your way to defeating Gades she asks you to kill him, and then. . . no really I have no idea. Good thing I had that premonition, right?
Hey so I discovered a core while walking to Siantao, holy crap. They're a little different this time around, but just as useful as before:
TONS of LP, fuck yeah.
I'm sure you can guess what he asks. And yes, I do want to sail to a new continent! Hooray!
Hooray!
Land, ho!
This is port city Caan, uh, I didn't really take any screenshots of around the town, just of the important stuff:
But you came in anyway, so I'll sell you my treasures!
Toy Ring gives you 1 of each color SF, Pendant just gives you +1 to each stat (except luck), and Bunny Ears are really, REALLY great, because you can BRING THEM INTO THE ANCIENT CAVE and ALL FEMALE CHARACTERS CAN EQUIP THEM! Too bad they're expensive as hell! You can find them in blue chests, as well.
also the chests had an IceBoomer and Undead Ring, which rasies your stats by 40 each, and lets you cast Perish, but it also makes you undead, so you can't be healed in battle and are weak to light magic. I don't usually fuck with it, honestly. Not worth the risks.
time.
Bitch tries to charge me 200g to stay the night, but if you come in the back, it's free. Huzzah.
More new magic, Bolt is a stronger Flash, and is completely invaluable in the next dungeon, if you have Gades Blade and Marco can't hit undead monsters. Also for some reason only Dei can learn Mute. . .
So, if you walk around the town, everyone are total jerks, and tell you to fuck off. The kids wonder why their parents are being so hostile. Apparently Alstadt Kingdom suddenly mobilized and is threatening to take over the whole continent, so the adults are all on edge. However, this is only half of the truth, but we'll find out more much later. . .
Also items to be found around town:
- Potion
- Dragon Fang (attack item that does good damage to flying enemies)
- DeathPowder
- Antidote
- Mind Seed
- Miracle (praise Foomy)
Okay let's leave and see what this continent holds for us!
Or not!
Grandpa?
Let me take care of him! Strong!
PING!
Ugh. . . uh. . .
Good, we weren't too late.
This wound is from a sword. . . it doesn't look like a monster did this.
So. . . someone is after him?
Seems so.
Ugh. . . Where am I?
Caan. You were lying unconscious outside Tomis Cave.
Right, I was fleeing from them. . . I-I must go, I cannot stay here!
You can't walk yet! Your wound is too deep, your life is in danger!
I know I cannot, but I must save the Princess, even if it costs me my life!
I said no! You'll die if you go now!
Do not stop me! The Princess is in danger! I have no time to lose!
Stop it Seena!
Marco what the hell, stay out of this!
Don't stand in the way of a man who is risking his life. Go, old man. . .
I thank you. Excuse me. . . Exits
Stay alive, old man. . .
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU IF HE GOES HE'LL DIE I TOLD YOU THAT!
. . . Really?
What are you, a fucking retard?! If he dies now it's basically our fault! We have to go save him!
Wow, Marco is a fucking idiot, jesus christ. Now where did that old guy go. . .
while I was dragging his bleeding body here. He must mean the "Abandoned Lighthouse" northwest of here.
Hooray, first dungeon!
As you can see, Lidal Continent has a different look and feel to it. It's more swampy than Epsis, which was more. . . I don't know. Normal I guess?
Here's the Lighthouse. Tomis Cave was on the way, but I can't really do anything there yet.
As you can see, the dungeon has a completely different look to it as well. It looks a lot like a stone tower, which is what it is, essentially.
These guys can attack twice in one turn with regular attacks, or use a move called Knight Slash or something, which isn't very powerful.
I feel like every breath I take, every move I make, every step I take they'll be watching me. . . damn it I made that joke in Lufia 1, I can't think of a better one. A side note, Dei has a X-Bow (read: Crossbow) which does extra damage to flying enemies, so he kicks the shit out of bees.
These guys are the pits because they have fairly decent defense, and can confuse your whole party. Assholes.
This is a pretty good IP, heals 1/4 max hp, and cures negative statuses too. No idea if it is multi-target like First Aid (which affects an entire row) or not.
This is a neat IP attack for Marco. It costs 0 IP, but instead uses HP. It's like most darkness attacks in jRPGs (see also Dark Knight Cecil's Darkness attack, FFX-2 Dark Knight Dresssphere's Darkness attack. . . )
Good move, raises your own or an allies DEF and RES, good buffer.
This is a cool move for Dei or Marco, you do 6 half damage hits, but they hit random enemies. Think the Offering/MasterScroll from FF6/FF6a.
This is only the midpoint of the dungeon.
Ah, the old guy is here fighting a giant Snake!
I can't even beat this monster. . . It must be because my wound is not yet healed. . . what a shame. . .
PING! Good, he's still alive. Marco, I'll take care of him, so get the monster!
Alright, leave the rest to us! Dei, Aima, let's go!
YEAH!
Cool, a snake. He wouldn't have been heard except I was fucking determined to steal everything from him. I got a Miracle (thank you lord Foomy, you are gracious and foamy), a Body Dress, which is a huge improvement over my current equipment for Aima, and a BattleAx, which seemed silly at the time but was totally worth it, you'll see why. Of course, I kept trying to steal the BattleAx and eventually said fuck it and attacked, and of course right when I aid fuck it was the turn I stole it. . . but I digress. . .
So this guy is mostly annoying, not too tough if you go all out on the offense. He can bite you which does good damage and poisons. He can use a spell called Meteor which hits all of you for decent damage. Of course I have Energy Punch
So whatever.
Huzzah!
I've cast Strong, but he's quite tough! He'll be fine.
I appreciate it. You've saved my life not once, but two times.
Don't worry about it. But weren't you going to save the Princess? We'll help you.
Thank you. . . but this is a dangerous place. I do not have the confidence to ensure your safety.
But we have been helping you! Ha ha ha ha old people are stupid and funny.
Yeah old man, we don't want to have to save you again!
She's right.
The princess is what's important now. We should hurry!
So there are still people like you on Lidal Continent, where mistrust abounds. . . My name is Randolph, captain of Princess Melphis' Royal Guard. I ask for your assistance.
Don't worry, we'll help you!
Name: Randolph
Class: Knight/Samurai/Retainer
Weapons: Long Swords, Two-Handed Swords, Axes
Likes: Doing his duty, sushi rolls, haiku poetry
Dislikes: Dishonor, incontinence, kids these days with their vidya games. . .
about : Randolph is the Knight character. He is very high in STR, and makes a good front row fighter. His STR is not as high as Aima, but he has an advantage over her in that he can wear heavy Armor and take more punishment. However his HP is shit, so he ends up being a fragile old man. He also can equip the Gades' equipment. He's useful when you get him, but loses usefulness over time.
How exciting, Samurai Grandpa Randolph has joined us! I immediately gave him the BattleAx I stole from the snake, raising his attack by like 50. He is a welcome addition, I need more tough people in the front row. I arranged my characters like this:
Because Randolph needs the speed like WHOA. Also Seena could use some speed too, and the extra MP the yellow SF gives her. Also Dei can hit the same from the back row with his bows, and can steal safely from behind Randolph.
This sword is fruity and hits multiple enemies. Crap.
So yay, we've made it through half of this tower, next time we will go all the way to the top and rescue Princess Melphis! UNTIL NEXT TIME!
EDIT: Upon further review, Randolph is shit, and I'm editing this.
