Part 21
Today's update involves a fetch quest within a fetch quest within a fetch quest!
Yeah, king Herat, who apparently has Alumina. He better not be a jerk.
There's a scene here where Jerin eats this shit, but it turns out to be strained slime, so Aguro calls her Slime elf, and then Lufia calls her slime elf, and she cries, and Lufia is like "YOU NEVER PAY ATTENTION TO ME ANY MORE, ONLY JERIN!" The whole point is that there's nothing good to cook with and the chef wants me to find a good ingredient to feed to the king.
Yeah, I guess I'm going to have to feed him. But where can I find something delicious? Wasn't there a town of cooks. . .
Oh right, that guy. Maybe he'll actually be there this time.
TO LYDEN!
Oh? You know King Herat?
Yeah, he's eaten almost everything I've cooked.
Are there any dishes that could surprise him?
Well, there's one, but it isn't really a dish. . . It's a flavor. You add it to anything, it instantly makes it delicious. Even if the dish isn't good, you think it is.
So you're saying even something we normally hate to eat will be delicious?
Exactly. I made it in case of famine or something. . . but the problem is, it isn't finished. I need the Purple Newt that supposedly lives in the cave east of Herat.
So what you're saying is, I need to fetch you the purple newt, so I can finish fetching all the Alumina, so I can go and fetch the Dual Blade to defeat the Sinistrals?
I say, a fetch quest within a fetch quest within a fetch quest! It's brilliant!
Let's just do this and get it over with.
BUT FIRST I finally conquered the old cave!
Mixam learned Trick, which raises one character's attack, by a LOT. I'm mostly going to be using it on Aguro, although I think Jerin learns it later so she can use it while Mixam does something useful.
This is a battle only item that let's you cast boost, for free, although it's a little weaker. It's pretty useful, I guess, if Aguro needs to heal, or if you're out of MP or something.
Jerin learned Vulcan, her strongest fire spell. Not only does it have a cool name, it looks cool too.
EXPLOSION!
Apparently, it's also a crappy helmet, which is really strange.
#1 in the hood, G
I have to walk around some mountains to get to the purple newt cave. It's kind of lame, but whatever, because:
Sunder is the strongest of Lufia's blast magic, which hits all enemies. It's pretty strong, although I'm still going to mostly use flash-type magic.
I also passed the Egg Dragon shrine while walking, but I'll go back there later.
Here's this cave, man I hope it's short.
They look really retarded. Also, they sometimes drop grilled newts, which is pretty funny I think.
And Lizard Man. Basilisks turn you to stone (WHO KNEW RIGHT?!) and lizard men spray you with mace. Wait I think that's wrong.
There's a teleporter here, but it only takes me across the room (there's only one room in this cave, which is so nice and short).
This long alley looks suspicious. . . hmm. . .
oh shit INVISIBLE DOOR! I finally got the Engage ring, which lowers the prices at shops by 25%! AMAZING!
By lowering this switch, I can change teh destination of the teleporter, and get to a new part of the cave.
That was easy. I didn't even have to kill a purple newt, it was in a treasure chest! Alright let's take it back to that Wizardly guy.
Oh wonderful, wait here two seconds.
*two second*
Okay done, give this to the king.
It's magic! Let's go give it to that chef.
Long story short, he feeds the king, who is very satisfied! Let's reap our reward!
Yeah, let's get some TREASURE!
He had a better sword for Aguro, a better helmet for Mixam, let's see. . .
No idea what this does.
OKAY! That's all 7! Let's go back to Carbis (Shaia Lab #3) and give it to Raile so I can finally go underwater!
But. . . THERE ARE PIRATES THERE!
Aw god damn it Raile, Lou, ALL OF YOU! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!
So now I have to rescue Raile and Lou so they can make it so I can go underwater and god damn it.
Aw fucking pirates, I HATE EM! Actually pirates are cool, but these ones are assholes and try to kill me.
That sounds easy.
Oh yeah, of course they have to do that. And I'm sure the order isn't written anywhere.
These things have mega defense, but of course flash magic fries them in seconds.
and Berserker. MY LOVE FOR YOU IS LIKE A TRUCK BERSERKER!
The fire plates have high defense but succumb easily to flash. . . notice a pattern? They also probably drop better armor but this tower is pretty short so I didn't fight too many of them.
These have high MGR and like to cast perish, which would instantly kill one character except it hasn't hit once. Oh well!
Rally revives and fully heals! It also costs 30 MP, which is a lot, and Mixam doesn't have a lot of MP. Other people will learn it, eventually.
I think it's saying, if the alarm sounds, you have to leave the screen and come back.
Go find the prison key and rescue me! I messed up the order on the switches and got caught! I know for a fact the first switch is the upper left one! Good luck!
Well, I guess I'd better go try.
Hmm okay, I don't know the combo but I'm going to try upper left, lower right, lower left, and then upper right.
Huh, I just guessed. Apparently I'm just awesome.
OH SHIT PIRATES!
STEREOTYPICAL PIRATES! SHIT!
Yeah, this guy likes to cast support spells on the big guy, called dubious for some reason. It raises his DEF and MGR. And the pirate lord guy can cast Stun on himself which raises his attack I don't get it either. He can also do fun things like:
Confuse my entire team, which I can't prevent!
Put everyone to sleep! And yes, his name really is Pirates.
Well anyway he's fucking dead now so it doesn't matter how fucking annoying the battle was.
Hey. . . I'm done stealing! Don't chase me all the way here!
We're here to rescue you! Why did you come here?
I had business to attend to.
Finding your father?
No way! I don't care about that jerk!
Your father is here too, but he got caught.
Father? He's here?
Let's go rescue him and then we'll leave together.
No idea what this does.
ARR!
This raises attack by a bunch, but also raises weight, which causes you to get less turns. So clearly it isn't that great.
Caught so easily by pirates? What a klutz!
Is that. . . it is! Lou! You've grown!
Geez, can't recognize your own kid just because he's grown a few inches?
Stop arguing right now you two!
Like father like son, eh Aguro?
Oh Brother!
By the way, Raile, we found the Alumina, can we repair the Falcon?
Yes, come to Shaia Lab #3 right away!
Well. . .
Go with your father, Lou.
Go with your father.
Go with your father.
Go with your father.
Fine! I mean, I guess he's helpless without me!
Hey! I'm a fine father!
You could write once in a while!
I've invented a box that let's you talk to someone far away, so we'll never have to write letters! Problem is, it needs to be connected by a wire. . .
You fool! Always inventing useless things. Who's going to lay the wire!
Oh, those two. . .
Don't worry, they're laughing!
I guess.
Okay enough of this shit let's just GET ON WITH IT!
Dum dee dum. . .
*a matter of seconds later*
I told you, I'm a genius!
So we can take the Falcon underwater?
Yeah, anywhere there's an Eddy, which is toilet-shaped robot that. . . which is a circular whirlpool that will take you underwater. There's a ring shaped island north by northwest of here where Doom Island supposedly fell. The village of Soshette is on the north side, go there first.
Thanks professor, LET'S GO!
Finally we're off to the Fortress of Doom to get the fucking Dual Blade. What's the worst that could happen?
So I completed a fetch quest which helped me complete a fetch quest which ultimately helped me complete a fetch quest. This game is. . . special at times. Next update I'm really going to get the Dual Blade, honestly! No lie!
