Might & Magic II

Character Creation Info
Let's create a new character!

This screen shows the character's vital statistics. Statistics range from 3 to 21: higher is better, so this character has one good stat and a bunch of mediocre ones right now. Most of the statistics are self-explanatory. Might affects damage in physical combat, Intellect affects Sorcerer and Archer spell points, Personality affects Cleric and Paladin spell points, Endurance affects hit points, Speed affects armour class and turn order, Accuracy does what it says on the tin, and Luck affects thievery and maybe some other stuff. If we're not happy with these statistics, we can reroll them, or use the Exchange button to swap statistics around (for example, instead of having 13 Accuracy and 11 Luck, this character could have 11 Accuracy and 13 Luck).

The first thing we have to do when creating a character is decide on its class. Not all classes are available to this character, because each class has minimum stat requirements. Here's a brief overview of the character classes, including the two new classes introduced in Might & Magic II:

Knight: The same fighter-type class that exists in every RPG ever made. They can use nearly all weapons and armour, and gain lots of hit points, but can't use any magic. Knights need high Might.

Paladin: Fighters who eventually gain a limited range of Cleric spells. Their weapon selection is slightly more restricted than a Knight's, but they can still use most weapons and armour. Paladins need high Might, Personality and Endurance.

Archer: Fighters who can also cast some Sorcerer spells. They can use most weapons, but their selection of armour is more limited than a Knight or Paladin, and they can't use shields. They're the only class who can use missile weapons in melee combat, which is sometimes useful. Archers need high Intellect and Accuracy.

Cleric: As the main users of healing magic in this game, Clerics are indispensable. They also gain a few surprisingly effective attack spells. Their HP gains are average, their armour is limited to splint mail and shields, and they can use blunt melee weapons but no missile weapons at all. Clerics need high Personality.

Sorcerer: This is the wizard class. Sorcerers have a very limited selection of weapons and armour, but they make up for it with devastating attack spells and several important utility spells. Sorcerers need high Intellect.

Robber: Robbers pick locks and disarm traps just like in every other RPG, and they're more useful in combat than they were in Might & Magic I, thanks to a new ability: the backstab. Sometimes, when a Robber attacks an enemy, they'll backstab them for lots of extra damage. Robbers need high Luck.

Ninja: Assassins from a distant land, with deadly fighting skills and peerless fashion sense. One of the two new classes that first appears in Might & Magic II, Ninjas can pick locks, disarm traps and backstab enemies like a Robber, but they're not quite as good at it. They can't use shields or any armour better than ring mail, but they can use specialised ninja weapons, some of which are quite powerful. Ninjas need high Speed and Accuracy.

Barbarian: Battle-hardened warrior tribesmen who love combat but hate wearing shirts. Barbarians gain even more hit points than Knights, but have a much more limited selection of weapons and armour. As far as armour goes, they're limited to scale mail and shields. They do somewhat better on the weapon front, being able to use most melee weapons except for swords. Their selection of missile weapons is terrible, though: they can only use slings and blowpipes. Barbarians need high Endurance.

For the sake of argument, let's say that we want to keep these stats and make a Ninja.

The next step is choosing the character's race, alignment and sex. This character is a dwarf. Notice how his statistics have changed slightly? That's because Dwarves have high Endurance and Luck, but low Intellect and Speed. Other races also have strengths and weaknesses: Humans (as always) are average in all areas, Elves have high Intellect and Accuracy but low Might and Endurance, Gnomes have very high Luck but low Speed and Accuracy, and Half-Orcs have high Might and Endurance but low Intellect, Personality and Luck. Any race can be a member of any class, and the stat bonuses and penalties aren't hugely significant, so if you want to create a Half-Orc Sorcerer, go right ahead.

Alignment and sex both have relatively minor in-game effects; both can also change due to events occurring in the game. Let's say that this character is male, and his alignment is neutral: as a dwarf and a ninja, he cares not for good or evil but only for the honour of his clan.

Finally, this character needs a name befitting a dwarven ninja.

We won't actually be creating and using this particular character, because that would just be silly. But I will invite you to create your own characters so that I can use them, and I'll be using a rotating party roster to make sure that everyone gets a moment in the limelight. You can choose a class, race, sex and name, and even tell me what stats to prioritise if you want. Want to make a gnomish cleric of a trickster god, with low Might but high Intellect and Luck? Be my guest!

tl;dr version:

You, the reader, get to create a character and see him or her used in this thread. You need to provide me with the following information:

Class: Knight, Paladin, Archer, Cleric, Sorcerer, Robber, Ninja or Barbarian
Race: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome or Half-Orc
Sex: Male or Female
Alignment: Good, Neutral or Evil
Name: Up to 15 characters long

If you can draw or otherwise supply your own character portrait (48x48 preferred, but I can do my best to crop/resize if necessary), that would also be a huge help: I've got a limited number in stock right now.
