Part 26: Let's Really Break Mystic Quest! with 13/f/cali - Part 4
Last time around, we completely failed at saving Aquaria, but successfully moved on to Fireburg.I wasn't able to get through the Focus Tower section since I couldn't finish the statue puzzle. As a result I just hacked my way through.
Boy, Fireburg sure looks lovely this time of year!
This update we're just going to be doing a couple quick playful things. Next time we'll be making the game unwinnable so I think it's okay to screw around a little!
In the Fireburg Hotel there is a band playing on a stage. It bothered me that it was always impossible to get up on the stage and interact with the band at all.
What happens if you go up there?
Benjamin takes the vocals and belts out to the Fireburg town theme song. The crowd is shocked at first, but by the end of the night they love him. Benjamin decides to persue a career in the music industry instead of continuing to fail to save the world. He joins the Fireburg band and they go on to tour.
Now available on WiiWare for only 17000 points, I proudly introduce Rock Band: Mystic Quest!
Actually, despite having solid sprites, you can't interact with the band members at all. What a letdown. At least Benjamin seems to have a groupie!
Well that sucked. Time to advance the plot! Phoebe I guess you can go home now.
I go and get Reuben to join my party and give myself the Multi-Key so I can enter the house with Mr. Mega Grenades. That's where this update hits a wall head-first.
Why is this? Because I fucked up.
What happened here is that since I've been playing around with the highest tier weapons, the game thinks he has already given me the Mega Grenades. As a result, he acts like all that is over with and so I never trigger the event to go to the mountains. As a result, I have no way to progress in the story without more cheating.
Times I've made the game unwinnable via cheating: 1
Fortunately, we don't need to be able to continue on in the plot for the other thing I wanted to show for this update; a local battlefield is good enough:
As you can see here, on the way to the battlefield, Benjamin and Reuben became fast friends! Reuben even got a fitting nickname and Benjamin was nice enough to trade Reuben up to a better weapon! All silliness aside, the reason we're here is to show that if you give Benjamin a morning star, for some reason it detects it as having ammo as if it were bombs. This is not an effect of me equipping bombs- I changed weapons before hacking this in.
When Benjamin equips a morning star, the animation and effects of the weapon work as normal. Worth noting is that despite the weapon having an ammo counter, the ammunition for the weapon does not decrease with use. If you try to attack with the morning star after emptying out your ammo, it still works fine. This means that if you want to have a fun cheat run where you use the morning star, you can do so without worry of any odd consequences. I will note that there is no out-of-battle use for the weapon (the same is also true for the bow and the shuriken).
That concludes this playaround. I didn't realize when I started playing for this update that I would brick my progress, but that's easily fixed. Next time we'll be making the game unwinnable again, so stick around for more soon!
