Part 27: Let's Really Break Mystic Quest! with 13/f/cali - Part 5
As you can see, the Dark King has been moonlighting as a locked chest for some reason. Perhaps he wouldn't have been so evil if he had just let his true feelings out once in awhile.
This is a more interesting picture. Here, it appears that the Dark King has suddenly left. What's going on? Am I freely roaming the ending? Nope, nothing like that. The Dark King isn't gone. We're gone. I mean, we're obviously where we are on screen, the issue is that we aren't where we're supposed to be. The Dark King's room is far more massive than one is able to discover through normal play. I didn't look at coordinate info to be sure, but if I had to hazard a guess, the Dark King's room is actually a 3x3 square of Dark King rooms, but for some reason he only appears in the one you're supposed to be in.
Perhaps the original plan was for each of the 4 Vile One recolors to be fought in a similar room? That would fill 4 of the other rooms. The other 4 might have been Mega Man style refights of the original forms. This is pure speculation of course, but I am glad the final dungeon is the way it is, it would have been excessive to have it any other way.
