Part 26: Siege of Llancarfan Recap

Previously on Myth III

The soldiers of Llancarfan held back Moagim's assault....for now.

Much like The Gates of Myrgard, this is a fun level. Lots of artillery and enemy death happening simultaneously across the map. Killing the two Trow will give you the most trouble in a typical game. The first time I beat that mission I had ONE archer left alive who only managed to kill the final Trow because it had climbed up on the other side of the wall to kill my last archers there, and had to walk a long distance to get the last one. I chose to do this level as co-op for the obvious reasons of so much happening at once.

The game film:

Three Heron Guard, four archers, five warriors and one warlock were lost. I am responsible for one Heron, the warriors and the Warlock. The Warlock death was a little cheap if you look closely - Warlocks are immune to their own fire, but an exploding Warlock fireball triggers other fireballs to explode. The dead Warlock hit his target with a fireball, which caused the fireball cast from the other Warlock to explode and kill the first (and nearly a dwarf too). The unit closest to the explosion was the second Warlock who took no damage. Weird.

I counted only two Trow kills since I was one off from my review of the video compared to the number of kills the end of game thing said.

I expected to fail this mission many times, and take out my frustrations on Jade Star; like we always do when we play games together. But an odd thing happened - the main video was our first take at it. I never expected things to go so well. So I had a stupid idea - let's split the units down the middle, and try to fight each other to the death. It sort of worked? Whatever, Jade and I got to be dicks to each other and that's what matters.

Next time on Myth III
During the siege many Heron fought their way to Moagim in an attempt to kill him, yet none were successful in damaging him. Thanks to his encounter with Mazzarin, Connacht knows that Moagim possesses the Rod of the Callieach, a magical artifact that grants him immortality. If Moagim is to be stopped, a few select volunteers will have to destroy the Rod, even knowing they are not likely to return from the mission...
