Part 76: Side Story: Setting Out
Music: Town Veiled in White
For today's side story, we're heading back to Stillsnow.
But I cannot go anywhere until my family pays off our debts. My father is...well, with him being the way that he is, I cannot simply abandon my family to pursue my own dreams.
She wants to follow her dreams, but can't because of debt.
Dagger's alright, but not that great compared to others I have.
I'll pay you back when my daughter finally starts bringing in a bit of money, you'll see.
And there's Pathetic Father, being pathetic.
My interest rates are quite reasonable, you'll find. Heh heh.
And the moneylender.
You may think beating up the moneylender would solve things, but not this time!
However, there are two options to resolve this quest.
-----
METHOD ONE
First is to beat up the pathetic father. Luckily, he's easy to beat due to just how pathetic he is.
What did I ever do to deserve such troubles? I just...I only ever...
Music: Enveloped in Kindness
Hmph. But maybe this time something'll actually get through to you.
This fellow used to have a small shop of his own, see. But his business went under, and he lost everything. He always was the serious type. I guess the failure was just too much for him to handle. Broke his heart. He turned to drink, looking to drown his sorrows. And look at 'im now.
Damn it! Damn it all!
But you can't expect me to start over anew at this age...
I...I don't...
Thank you for giving him the chance to work through some of that anger.
Music: Town Veiled in White
The Alluring Ribbon raises the chances of random encounters. Good for grinding and nothing else.
So, uh, I guess we fixed things? Granted, I don't exactly feel like we did the right thing here...
If he truly goes back to work, then maybe I can pursue my own dreams as well... I can finally try to become a singer!
I want to at least give my girl the chance to pursue her own dreams.
...though it did seem to help the Pathetic Father stop being Pathetic. I guess it was a happy ending after all...?
You can just shut up.
-----
METHOD TWO
Music: A Settlement in the Red Bluffs
The alternative is to ignore the family in favor of helping the young woman achieve her dreams. And we happen to know of the perfect opportunity for her!
There's gotta be another girl somewhere who can carry a tune...
This guy's an expert at finding talent, and we've got a good lead...
So let's see if this works out!
-----
Music: Enveloped in Kindness
And your voice... Oh, it's sweeter than any wine I've got on offer! You must come and sing for me!
You truly wish me to sing for you!? I...well, I would absolutely love to, but I...I can't.
And why not? You want to be a singer, don't you?
I do...but my family... They cannot make it without me. I'm afraid we owe a great deal to a moneylender, and...
It's nothing compared to the profit you'll bring my tavern soon enough! Your voice has enchanted me, my girl. You are the only one I'll have on my stage!
Nothing would please me more.
In this case, the Pathetic Father remains Pathetic (and his dialogue unchanged).
Music: A Settlement in the Red Bluffs
I get to sing in front of so many people now at the tavern. It's really a dream come true!
But now the woman is happy she gets to live her dream and sing for many people.
If I didn't run the place, I dare say I'd be one of them myself!
...Even if her employer's a bit obsessed with her.
Neither ending is really perfect, but I guess in both outcomes there's more good than bad as a result of our actions. Such is life!
Next time, we'll head to Noblecourt as Therion and commence with some stealing and what-not!
