Part 242: Fool Personas
Welcome to the Velvet Room: I Pity The FoolLet's talk about another Arcana, this time a very strange one indeed: The Fool. So, The Fool is the 'zero' of the Tarot deck (technically it can be either zero or XXII, since it is unnumbered). The Fool is our Arcana, and much like our power it has no defined form. It's a sort of 'wild card' that falls at the beginning and end of the journey the Tarot represents, a shapelessness that can take on any final form. It's almost like they thought this out, am I right?
There are no Fool Shadows and therefore we don't need to discuss them. It doesn't really make sense for a Shadow to be a Fool, if you really think things through. I leave why as an exercise to the reader.
Fool's Social Link is SEES itself, and such advances automatically and represents our journey the the resolution of the plot. Easy as can be.
Fool Personas are weird (though not as weird as they were in older Persona games, where Fool was a special Arcana that was much harder to create than any other). There's nothing particularly that ties them together as far as what they do. Let's look at them.
Orpheus- Our starting Persona. It's not that great, to be quite honest (though I love the design) since it's got two weaknesses. Still, it's got Tarunda and that counts for something.
Slime- This weird Persona is resistant to Light and vulnerable to Darkness. It's got a mix of ailment skills and maragi. Combined with decent all around stats he could be good if you know you're not going to face Darkness, otherwise avoid him like the plague because come on, you never want to be weak to instant death.
Legion- Another weird Persona (sensing a pattern yet), this guy is vulnerable to Light but resistant to Ice and immune to Darkness. He's slow but has pretty decent all around stats, and a mix of physical attacks and ailments. He gets Sexy Dance which is friggin' great but I'd personally just try to transfer it to a Persona that isn't going to get one shotted by trash.
Black Frost- Fan favorite Black Frost isn't quite as strong as he is in Persona 4. He is immune to Ice, resists Fire and Darkness, but will fall to Light. He's got a mix of Dark, Fire, and Ice magic, which he combines with Marakunda and Matarukaja to give you some good utility. Try to find a Resist/Null Light for him from somewhere because otherwise he's really scary to use as with the last two. His stats are super balanced, as with most Fools.
Ose- Once again Fool is a catch-all for weird stuff. He's immune to Darkness, resists Fire, but is weak to Electricity. He's got the standard Fool good stats and mix of Status, Physical, and Fire skills. He's also got Cool Breeze, which restores your HP and SP after a battle, and that alone is probably worth at least fusing him up to steal it (it's even his skill card).
Decarabia- And suddenly we're on a Persona that's immune to Fire and weak to Ice. And he doesn't even have Fire skills, instead he's armed with Marakukaja and Matarunda and relies entirely on Megido for offense. He does naturally negate his own weakness with Resist Ice though, and is of course a handy source for such a skill as well as those group buff/debuff spells.
Loki- A cool guy. He's weak to Fire but resists Ice and Dark and Drains Wind. He gets Garudyne and Bufudyne, improved physical crit rate, Megidola, and will eventually repel his own weakness. A deeply solid Persona and very worth fusing up. He's got shit luck, though.
Susano-o- Taking a break from putting up with Yosuke, Susano-o is our top rank Fool. He's vulnerable to Light and blocks Pierce while being resistant to Electricity and Wind. He'll also eventually repel Strikes. He's a physical attacker through and through and that's what all his skills point him to be. Not bad, but again I'd want something to negate that Light weakness.
There is another Fool that isn't a normal Persona and we won't talk about it until much later.
