Part 64: 7/4/09

7/4/09

Another day closer to the full moon.

Are you nervous?
I’m okay.
…Seriously? You’re amazing, Aelita…
I guess we have to do this no matter what…

That’s the thing, no matter how frightening things might get if we give up it’s all over.

We… We have cooking club today…
Are you gonna go…?
> Fuuka looks nervous.
I-I see. I guess we should go, then.
> Fuuka seems happy.

Which doesn’t just apply to fighting Shadows.

……
> Fuuka seems depressed…
Oh… Sorry.
……
I keep messing up…
It’s not a problem with how I made the recipe… How do I put this…?
While I’m making it, I start thinking that it’s not going to come out right anyway…
……
I’m always like that.
It’s like, I’m bad at imagining things in a positive way…
I keep imagining that nothing is going to go right…
If only there was something I was actually good at…
You’re good with machines.
…I’m surprised you remembered.
…But that’s just something that I like. It’s not something I can be proud of…
> Fuuka seems embarrassed.

She’s being way too hard on herself, honestly.

He’d fix things like broken amplifiers and headphones where one side would be broken.
I loved watching him working on those things when I was little…
That’s… probably why I became good with machines.
But, I don’t think I could use machines to repay everyone’s kindness…
When we really need help with fighting or technology, we have the Kirijo group’s support…
I want to find something that only I can do… Something that people would rely on me for…
I’ll help you find it!
* giggle * Thanks.
You really are our leader after all.
> Fuuka seems happy…
Oh, we should make something before it gets too late.
If we want to make something that we can take back to everyone, I think cookies would be best.
> You decide to make cookies today.
> You mixed the ingredients…
> …kneaded the cookie dough…
> …cut out the shapes…
> …and took them to the oven…
> …The cookies were pretty easy to make.
> Obtained Sugar Cookie x 2.
> If you give them to someone when you go out on your days off, it might make them happy…

Anyway I got done early enough to actually catch Fuuka before she’d done something weird with the recipe.

I’m still measuring the flour…
> Fuuka’s hands and legs are covered in flour…
> …In order to avoid staying here late into the night, you insist on helping Fuuka cook.
Huh? You’re putting the flour in this basket? But it’s falling out of the bottom.
Oh, so THAT’S how you melt butter quickly!
> You somehow defended the dough from all Fuuka’s efforts to deviate from the recipe.
> All the cookies survived.
It came out right…
* giggle * That’s amazing, it came out right.
It wouldn’t have happened if you weren’t here…
But it actually came out right! For the first time ever, something I cooked actually tastes good!
> Fuuka is giddy with excitement…
> You feel like you have gotten even closer to Fuuka…

I’m so glad it turned out well.

…Then again, you pretty much did everything…
I caused you all this trouble again…
But I’m the one that wants to help you…
Anyways, I’ll try harder next time.
> You cleaned up the room and headed back to the dorm…

She also reminded me about the upcoming operation, I think just as much to make herself feel better.

I’m sure some kind of Shadow will show up.
Please be ready.

The police are still looking for that missing girl.

Newscaster: Witnesses spotted the girl last night with a friend, but the other girl is missing as well.
This is the sixth such mysterious disappearance this month.
Police are still searching for any leads in the case…

Oh, and Tanaka’s actually worried he’ll see a consequence of his shady business.

It was with a young man not much older than you. Guess what he said…
He said, “Thank you.”
Good for you.
I don’t mean to sound like a prick, but I could care less what our customers think.
> President Tanaka seems a bit cocky.
…After all, we don’t even sell real products.
But then, he told me he quit his part-time job and was going to study to become a public prosecutor.
He wants to punish businessmen like me for bending the rules.
He said I was an example of a negative role model. As if!
This is me worrying too much, but what if… Just what if…
What if he does become a public prosecutor and puts me behind bars?
Then I wouldn’t be able to give you advice any more…
> President Tanaka seems upset.
> You feel like you understand him a little better now.

I mean you can’t complain when you’re selling fake stuff that doesn’t work.

…I want the shareholders to know about this.
Apparently, kids these days aren’t as naïve as we thought…
> President Tanaka left.
