Part 16: Bonus Update 2
Okay, as promised, here's the bonus update. First, this is the cutscene you get if Nei is killed by Neifirst (as she normally will be).
As you can see, it's pretty much equally either way.
Most of the time Nei loses, because Neifirst hits very hard and Nei's defence sucks; you have to level Nei up at least into the mid-40s so that Neifirst won't kill her in two hits. Nei levels up much faster than any other character, but she's still only going to get to around level 35 if you play normally. So, you may ask, how did I level her up so high?
With these things, that's how. Blastoids have pathetic attack power and give decent amounts of experience, but more importantly they can reproduce -- and the duplicate only has as much current HP as the original did when it split. So you get a Blastoid to within one hit of death and wait for it to reproduce so you can farm it. After you've killed 100 or so of them, you let everyone except Nei die off so she doesn't have to share the experience, and you kill the last Blastoid to end the battle. I unequipped everyone's armour except Nei's so that the Blastoids could actually kill my party members in the time it took to kill 100 Blastoids.
That's the result of about half an hour's Blastoid farming.
As a byproduct of all this, you're going to earn a fair bit of money. I'm more or less set for the rest of the game now.
It takes about 20000 experience points for Nei to gain each level, so imagine these screens repeated three times.
Of course, now Rolf is dead, so we have nobody left to cast Hinas and Ryuka, and Nei's likely to get killed if she walks out on her own.
Good thing we got an Escapipe and Telepipe from the item shop before we left!
Now, all we have to do is resurrect everyone, go back into Climatrol and repeat the process until Nei reaches level 50, the maximum possible level.
See? Maximum possible level. Even the Data Memory girl who normally tells you how much XP you need to level up agrees.
Nei's stats are pretty great at this point. Her defence still sucks, but her fairly high HP makes up for it. She attacks twice a round, and each hit is almost as strong as an attack from Rolf's laser sword. Too bad we're inevitably going to lose her. Maybe there's some way we can prevent that?
Neifirst refuses to fight unless Nei is alive when we talk to her. And we already know that winning the fight means that Nei dies anyway. But wait... what if Nei loses, but we revive her afterwards?
Shir can steal Moon Dew from item shops. If we bring a Moon Dew along and use it on Nei during the fight with Neifirst...
Nei is brought back to life!
(As you can see, Neifirst's claw attack hits the entire party. It's still a lot less scary than her single-target laser attack, which can kill most of my characters if they're not at or near full health. Guess what happened to Kain.)
Unfortunately, after the battle Nei is removed from the party and the game continues on as if she was still dead. It would have been nice if the designers had at least added in the same scene as when Nei wins the duel with Neifirst.
