Part 74: Episode 3, Final Day, Trial: Only Natural

Only one piece of evidence connects Vasquez to Hammer at all. We'll have to hope presenting this photo reveals something else.

We already used this photo to show that the fence was the murder "weapon." Now I guess we're going to talk more about those events.

Sound: Desk Slam

This photo reveals the motive in this murder!

...!

Hrrrrrrm... hmph!

With Dee Vasquez's help, a terrible accident was swept under the carpet...

Ladies and gentlemen, the case currently up for trial...

...

His fall from stardom!

And his fall onto that same fence...

However!

You, Dee Vasquez, used Mr. Hammer.

Hmph.

I hated Edgeworth last episode. Now he's like a treasured tag-team partner. That's a bigger turnabout than anything else today.

Hmm...

One moment, Mr. Wright.
Sound: Light Bulb

Music: Silence

A few people have brought up this point in the thread already. In fact I touched on it myself briefly when we first learned that Hammer was the one in the Steel Samurai costume.

It almost seems as if...

Sound: Realization

After all, Hammer disguising himself as Powers to frame him, only really makes sense if he was the one who set out to kill Vasquez in the first place.

What motive would Ms. Vasquez have?

Y-yes, that's right.

According to what you say...

Sound: Objection

Music: Suspense

Mr. Wright?

Please explain Ms. Vasquez's motive for murder.

Here's a trap, with full penalty attached. We had a prompt like this one earlier in the trial, where I said that "obviously" we need to present evidence, because why would the game offer the option if we weren't meant to use it? However we just went through a prompt for evidence about motive, and only came up with something that showed that Hammer had a motive, not Vasquez. Somehow I don't think showing the photo again is going to cut it here.

She had no motive, Your Honor.
Sound: Realization

Sound: Whack

It was Mr. Hammer who was out for blood!

Music: Silence

Sound: Objection

What's that now!?

Poor Edgeworth. He jumps over to our side today to go after the obviously-guilty Vasquez, and we're going to pull the rug out from under him yet again by proving that she didn't set out to kill Hammer at all.

Sound: Desk Slam

It's simple!

Sound: Drama Pound

quote:

Here's what happens if we try to present evidence at that prompt instead...

Music: Suspense

Okay...

Allow me to present to the court evidence proving Ms. Vasquez's motive!

We get another evidence prompt here, but no matter what we present...

Music: Silence

This is my proof!
Sound: Objection

And... this tells us why Ms. Vasquez wanted to kill Mr. Hammer?
Sound: Realization

I'd say all it proves is that the defense attorney has completely lost his marbles.
Sound: Realization

(Urk!)

Mr. Wright! The court requests that you find your marbles immediately.

And, I'm afraid I have to penalize your for this waste of the court's time.
Sound: Damage 2

Not my typo there. But we do lose two health sections. And if we run out of health sections here, Will Powers is still declared guilty as we're thrown out of court.

Music: Suspense

Nick! We're so close!

Think this one through, please!

Mr. Wright, I'll ask you again.

Please explain Ms. Vasquez's motive for murder.

We're brought back to the prompt with another chance to either bail and claim she had no motive, or try showing evidence again. But no matter what we try to show here, nothing will work. Because she didn't have a motive at all!

Music: The Steel Samurai

Weird time for that track to kick in, but okay.

Sound: Stab

Sound: Drama Pound
Sound: Stab 2

Sound: Gallery

The only question I have left, is how exactly did Vasquez turn the tables on Hammer, who was out for blood, bigger, armed, and armored? Maybe her goons got involved?

Sound: Gavel x 3

Your Honor!

Bravo! Excellent summary presentation, Phoenix! :golfclap:

Sound: Crackle

That's not much of a meltdown, but considering the steady face she's been holding this whole time, I'll take it.

...

Sound: Realization

I am guilty.

It was me...

Most of our antagonists look worse and worse as the trial goes on. Here, Ms. Vasquez just looks like she can finally relax.

Music: Recollection ~ Light and Shadow of the Film Studio

Sound: Shock 2

All of these lines play out without the usual blip sound effects on each character printed. I'll present the rest of the scene as-is, without comment.

Sound: Guilty

Sound: Shock 2

A quick shot of a silent gallery...

Congratulations, Mr. Wright.

Music: Trial

Well that was unexpectedly heartbreaking.

Sound: Gallery

Sound: Gavel

Looks like we've skipped ahead a bit.

I see...

Mr. Wright.

Yes, Your Honor?

I think not, Your Honor.

Will Powers was innocent.

Edgeworth confuses me. Last episode he was all "everyone is guilty of something." And now he agrees Will Powers is innocent?

...

Yes. Yes, you're right.

Very well.

Music: Silence

Sound: Guilty x 2

There's no "Not Guilty" sound effect. You just get "Guilty" twice (once for each word). Double guilty!

Sorry, got sidetracked. On to the celebration!

Sound: Gallery Cheer

Sound: Gavel

:toot: Well that was a fun ride!
